This is a gr8 idea. I've thought often about having tools to mirror points, apply perspective, add lines of symmetry and then move points in a shape and so forth. It would be very cool to be able to select one or more points and then have a scale tool to them scale points, or move away from each other. Check the screenshot. Announcing The Inkscape 0.38 "BUG HUNT"!

With 0.37 happily out the door, we're ready to kick off the event you've all been looking forward to - yup, the BUG HUNT. Over the past few releases we've closed an insane number of bugs. Out of a total of 187 bugs that have been submitted, only 61 remain open. Particularly, we've been very attentive to close any bug that leads to a crash. No matter how obscure the bug, we don't want Inkscape to crash - ever! But there's a lot of smaller bugs that don't cause crashes, that are no less important to get fixed. Our goal for this release is to close a lot of bugs. Since we usually have focused mainly on the critical bugs, this time let's instead focus on the older bugs, that normally don't get much attention. Let's make our objective for 0.38 to either reduce the number of bugs submitted before the 0.37 release announce on 2/15/04 to fewer than 10, or to reduce our ratio of open-to-total bugs from 30% to 10%. 2/18 Goal ---- ---- 1. Bugs 841633-896992 52 9 2. Open/Total Bug Ratio 33% 10% Now, it may take some time for us to achieve this. If it looks like it's going to take significantly more than a month, then we should do a few 0.37.x point releases along the way. When we've achieved either objective 1 or objective 2, we will release 0.38. I think having a numerical goal will make this a fun release, even though it's just bug fixing, in that our progress towards the goal will be very easy to see. And having two objectives will hopefully help us avoid getting frustrated if we get stuck trying to meet one. A few notes on how to handle bugs. First, when reviewing a bug ask if it really is a feature request in disguise. If so, don't be shy about kicking it over to be an RFE. Second, you may find that the bug is a symptom of a larger underlying problem; in this case, perhaps consider finding some way to address the symptom directly and close the bug, and write up in detail what needs to be done to address the larger problem and submit that as an RFE. Inkscape Presentation Prep.

Hello All, I had some time while getting my tire repaired today to outline a project presentation of Inkscape. I'm supposed to give a little 10 minute thing at this place http://crca.ucsd.edu/ next wed. I figured that this type of outline and developing slides might be important for us all. And we can copy and paste for different types of presentations (technical, artistic, and then very specific). I know its not totally complete, but I wanted to basically develop an overview. I will make the SVG slides (and use Inkview) and post them to CVS after the outline of the presentation looks good. Added viewBox attribute

I added a few lines of code to add a <src viewBox=""> attribute. Since we have no viewBox editor yet, I just made the viewBox equal to "0 0 width height" where the width and height are the page sizes x 1.25. So, if you want to put an SVG drawing on a web page, do the following: 1. Set the page size to the size in points that the image rectangle will be on the web page. 2. Resize and move your drawing to fit into the page outline rectangle. 3. You might want to make a background rect to slightly overlap the page outline, to make sure that the edge of the drawing area does not appear on the web page. 4. Save. Paste into an XHTML document, and enjoy! Bob

Inkscape with coloured icons (fwd)

I mentioned on a previous thread that I thought it would be nice if the Inkscape icons had different colours for rectangle, ellipse, star, and I figured it would make sense to match their defualt colours (blue, red, yellow respectively). I hand edited icons.svg and changed the ellipse/arc to use a red gradient that already existed and that worked nicely. then I tried to change the star to yellow by adding another gradient but that doesn't seem to have worked as planned because I somehow managed to break the blue rectangle in the process. screenshot here: http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~horkana/inkscape/inkscape-coloured-icons-test.png and if you want to try it for yourself you can grab my modified icons.svg and drop it in place of the current one: http://www.maths.tcd.ie/~horkana/inkscape/inkscape-coloured-icons-test_icon… If people like this I'll try a brighter shade of Yellow and try to do this again properly without losing the blue rectangle and I'll submit a patch. I also played around with was converting the file to Standard SVG and it still worked fine. >From reading the markup I have noticed that it is extremely verbose (more accurately I was reminded having previously noticed this in Sodipodi) and I cannot think of any reason why this markup needs to be written. Win32 build and Inkview

After considerable tweaking, the Win32 build, which has been broken for a couple of days, is OK again. In addition, the src/Makefile.am has been cleaned up a bit to make it clearer, and so that Inkscape and Inkview can more cleanly use the same base code. Bob
