I just committed support for the letter-spacing CSS property. No GUI yet, but you can set letter-spacing on a text object via XML editor and it will work. (I just really needed it for my work, so decided to see if it can be done quickly, and indeed it can.) Please test! One problem is the em and ex units. I simply copied the Lauris' code which sets em equal to the font size and ex to 0.5 of the font size. Of course we need a proper way to extract the real em and ex values from the current font, but I don't know how to do that and if it's possible at all. (Or can Pango text help with this?) Most other window managers (like the default ones of Gnome and KDE) don't remove the decorations from transient windows. Complain to your window manager developers, or search its configuration - it may have a switch for configuring this. Nathan, Could you please test the solution to this bug on the original reporter's Sawfish WM? If it works acceptably I will close the bug. Now there is options.transientpolicy option that can be set to 0 (default is 1) to not set transient property on dialogs. No GUI yet, maybe in the next version. But you can set the option already by editing your ~/.inkscape/preferences.xml. undoing text node changes

Mental: I noticed that editing a text node in the XML editor does not complete transaction (unlike e.g. editing an attribute) and thus breaks undo. So I inserted sp_document_done() into sp_xmlview_content_changed() in widgets/sp-xmlview-content.cpp. This fixed the broken undo, but: 1. I could not find out what document we are editing, so I did the document_done function on SP_DT_DOCUMENT (SP_ACTIVE_DESKTOP). Can you rewrite it without ACTIVE_DESKTOP? 2. Now that the text node changes are undoable, undoing editing a text object in XML editor has the same problem as in this bug: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=861462&group_id=93… That is, if you create a text node, switch to any other tool, and then reproduce this bug's sequence but using XML editor instead of F8, the result is the same. Which proves that the source of the problem is not text tool, but the wrong way text node changes are logged and undone by the repr logger. Some basic things I haven't figured out: - how to construct an arc with the "circle, ellipse and arc" tool. - how to join the ends of an arc with a straight line. - how to centre concentric circles and then make sure the line is symmetrical. tutorial ready

The Help > Tutorial is mostly written, please read and criticize. It's pretty big, but not complete of course. Maybe later I'll break it into a basic tutorial and an advanced tutorial. I'm also interested to see how it comes up with regards to fonts, window size, etc. Posting a screenshot of the tutorial to the site would probably make sense. BUG: When I zoom out from the tutorial page, it ultimately crashes. This looks like an instance of this bug: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=859364&group_id=9… which could not be reproduced outside of my machine. So please test the tutorial by zooming out as far as you can, and report if you get a crash. Now I will write an XSLT transformation to automatically generate an SVG page with the keyboard shortcuts for reference, also to be linked from Help. O'Reilly Open Source Convention

Okay, So I'm going to submit an abstract to present Inkscape at the O'Reilly Open Source Convention.
