Why does Inkscape automatically convert Cubic Bezier straight line to Line Segment?

Dear Inkscape-devel, I am not sure if this is a design decision, but when I draw a cubic Bezier straight line on canvas, it would always get converted to a linear segment (no tangent node handles) automatically. This seems to happen in other scenarios (specifically in LPE) as well. This causes a little bit of an issue when I work on an LPE that requires having cubic bezier output, even for straight line, to maintain C1 smoothness across path segments. However, this automatic conversion will break my curve continuity, because I don’t have the tangent “node” to define for a linear segment that is connected to a cubic segment. In src/helper/geom, there is a method pathv_to_cubicbezier() that does this conversion, but it’s tricky: the tangent handles are somewhat “hacked” by adding small amount of offset to make the curve actually not perfectly linear. Although visually it maybe ok, but for scenarios that we care about precision, we may want strict linear segment to retain as-is, even though it’s in cubic form. Developing on Mac

Hey Inkscape developers, I’ve spent the last several years both using Inkscape and working with C++, and I’d really like to contribute to the project now that I have some relevant skills. I develop on macs though, and I can’t seem to find any up-to-date instructions on building for mac. Can anyone point me to some current info? Thanks for the help, and thanks for everything you guys do. -Mike

CMake 2Geom

Hi to all. Im starting a proyect and want link 2Geom to the code. Always have problem on compile because 2Geom files includes has a include base like "#include 2geom/point.h" and dont find it correctly. Any one know how to link 2Geom library whithout this problem, I dont want to change source code of 2geom. Connecting 2 paths smoothly in code

Dear Inkscape-devel, I have these two paths (Geom::Path, or two Piecewise<D2<SBasis>> if you want), and I would like to join them smoothly (C1, to be precise), in code. Is there an API provided to achieve this task? What I am trying to achieve is obvious to do using Node Tool by first “Join selected nodes" and then “Make selected nodes symmetric”, but I am not sure how to achieve this in code using Geom::Path easily because it doesn’t have a notion of “node” to manipulate. I can setInitial() or setFinal() or setPoint() manually, but since the feature in already there in the code, although in the parts I do not yet understand (PathManipulator), I figured I should ask. Waht could make inscabe even better

Hello ! It's just, that I wish to push Inkscape even more .... Regard, I do not make something like "a request" ;-) But: There are many situations, where you just create a plain object in another layer, with the size of the document. Why not re-use the menu: "/edit/paste/document-size" ?? Dont blame, me, if this exists probably on another place ... Best regards, Manfred

Knots vs CtrlPoint

Developers, I've just been scrutinising the code for guidelines, specifically the code that draws the little circle indicating the main co-ordinate of the guideline. What it looks like is back in 2009 the code src/display/sp-ctrlpoint code was a clone of the much older original code in src/display/sp-ctrlquadr which we've had since at least 2005. ctrlquadr draws a square using cairo, used by ui/tools/text-tool only ctrlpoint draws a circle using cairo, used by display/guideline only If we could replace these two instances with Knot objects, we should be able to remove this code completely? (11.8KB, 1150 lines) Are there any land minds you are aware of with this code? (somewhere it's being used without being able to find it?) For comparison, SPCtrlLine and SPCtrlCurve are used by pen-tool, mesh-tool, gradient-tool, text-tool and the measure-tool. So they're very well used in comparison. Best Regards, Martin Owens

Lib2Geom: no matching function for call to 'assert_degree'

Dear Inkscape-devel, I attempted to create a line segment using appendNew with 2 arguments (as suggested in the wiki <http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WorkingWith2GeomFAQ>): line1.appendNew<Geom::LineSegment>(p1.pointAt(0.), p2.pointAt(0.)); but I got the error message: ../../src/2geom/bezier-curve.h:218:7: error: no matching function for call to 'assert_degree' assert_degree<2>(this); ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ../../src/2geom/path.h:740:23: note: in instantiation of member function 'Geom::BezierCurveN<1>::BezierCurveN' requested here do_append(new CurveType(finalPoint(), a, b)); I am not sure why this would be a problem here. The following line creation would work without this error message: line1.start(p1.pointAt(0.)); line1.appendNew<Geom::LineSegment>(p2.pointAt(0.)); which puzzles me because this leads to a call of assert_degree() as well, although the degree check appears to be the expected 1 instead of 2. In fact, is the line segment creation mentioned in the wiki “valid”? It seems to internally call LineSegment(finalPoint(), a, b) which would be interpreted as a quadratic curve. Thank you. I'm definitely submitting materials to this from my portfolio (including Inkscape materials). What I'm wondering is, do we have a talk planned for Inkscape? Do we have a booth/information to hand out? Do we want any of these things? I'm local to the London area, so I'm able to help set up anything we'd like to do. At the very least I think we can do: Video presentations w/animation Fliers/cards. In addition to creating these items, I'm willing to foot the bill for things like fliers if we don't have project funds available for it. I can also get volunteers from the local Linux Drinks meetup group that I run to come help.
