Hello, I'm using lithographic patterns from the USGS in my project. Download can be found hier: https://blogs.otago.ac.nz/si-geology/resources/illustrationgraphics-resourc… One of the patterns is used in the attached file. If you open this file an zoom into the filled object, the pattern disappears at zoomlevel 3000%. Also the pattern is not exported to PNG in "higher" resolutions (say 2000px width) This behaviour crashes my project completely :( Is there a solution? Greetings Slub

css layers

Hi there, Please excuse if this has already been discussed, i could not find anything similar in the archives. So, I have a proposal, as svg natively does not really support "layers" but inkscape seems to mimic layers by adding a group with custom xml-attributes. How about trying to be closer to native svg/xml standard and have something similar to a "layer" (common fill, stroke,... attributes) solved by using class-attributes? Currently to me there seems to be no way to list all objects belonging to a group except for the xml-editor. That makes it really hard to use, but anyhow i saw there is an object manager coming in 0.92 With the current design i can't guess a way to have groups of objects being on different layers. Meassure tool

Hi to all. I have in mind work on meassure tool. The goal is: * Allow reposition of meassure * Store the last meassure start/end point to redraw it on tool reload. * Make it optionaly visible in others/some tools and maybe editable * Convert to Gides * Snapping, not sure is a good idea, but need to learn more about snapping. State of cxxtest -> Google Test transistion?

I'm interested in the state of the transition from cxxtest to Google Test framework. 1. How many % of all tests have been re-written to use Google Test instead of cxxtest? 2. Does make test run Google Test suite or cxxtest or both? 3. Is the Google Test framework software included in the repository or a dependency? If the latter, what package? I guess what I'm looking for is a wiki page with the general status / how to details on this refactoring effort... I wouldn't mind spending some time helping on this as a way to learn about Inkscape's source/architecture, and Google Test framework. Cheers /Olof

XQuartz status

Hi, Like many other people using Inkscape on a Mac, I’ve had lots of problems with multi-monitor support through different versions of XQuartz and OS X. It’s still basically unusable if you have the “Displays have separate spaces” option enabled. I’ve commented on some of the XQuartz bugs, and raised issues with Apple in the hope that someday something might get fixed. The other day I received an update on one of the XQuartz bugs (included below). Is anyone else worried that a fundamental piece of the architecture for making Inkscape work on a Mac is pretty much unsupported now? I’m guessing that if there’s no one working on it things are just going to get worse as new versions of OS X roll out? Election ballots sent out

Hello, This is just an e-mail to tell everyone that the ballots have been sent out for the election. If it this point if you haven't received a ballot, and you expect to, that is a problem. Please check your spam filters and then send an e-mail to the election committee. We can tackle this on several fronts: 1. Feature-oriented videos to demonstrate tools. These videos would accompany the documentation. I found this quite helpful to learn Blender 3D. 2. A beginner walk-through of Inkscape's user interface 3. A teaser/commercial with screencaptures of some of our talented community of artists working on professional projects with Inkscape. 4. Migration from Adobe Illustrator to Inkscape for graphics professionals 5. A short series of how-to videos demonstrating how to make some common graphics tasks like: -How to make elements like vines/flourishes -How to use Inkscape for package design -How to use Inkscape for labels, barcodes, and templates -How to use Inkscape for product design -Using Inkscape to make video caption templates -Favourites, or most-asked-for tutorials on the forums. -etc. 6. Tips and tricks to do things quickly in Inkscape. Some of these things aren't obvious, but highlighting features and how to use them to supercharge your graphics workflow is key especially for production artists. I can do pretty much all of these, with the added bonus of using Blender 3D as my Open Source video production software of choice. My only real limitation is time, but I'm happy to provide my graphics and materials to the team so others can help by filling in the gaps when they get time. RFC: stroke-alignment property for SVG and Inkscape

Hi. I'm Juan Luis Boya. As a Semester of Code project (http://semesterofcode.com/) I've have been for some time trying to add alternative stroke alignment options to Inkscape. There is an in-progress W3C draft for SVG2 that attempts to introduce a property named `stroke-alignment` for this purpose. This is an attempt to create an implementation of it. http://www.w3.org/TR/svg-strokes/ This property would control the placement of path strokes. This is better explained with an example. See this image: http://i.imgur.com/GIqKrwj.png The image shows the same rectangle with four different stroking modes. The black line represents the shape path, as that you would see with the 'Edit paths by nodes' tool in Inkscape. Shown in orange is the stroke of the path as would be seen by the user. A issue with the previous proposal was there was no definition for open paths. I propose to amend this in two ways: a) Adding two new values: `left` and `right`. `left` would place the stroke at the left of each path segment. The direction of the path is determined by the order of the nodes, in the same manner arrow lines work. The following image shows an example of how this would work: http://i.imgur.com/otULloP.png b) `inset` and `outset` would work as if the shapes were closed with a straight line, except that line would not be rendered. The property would be set as an style property (in CSS code). Add a few toggle buttons would be added to the Inkscape UI in the Stroke Style tab in order to control the value of the property. As for the implementation: 1. The offsetting would be done only to the stroke line, which will still be rendered as an stroked line (instead of being converted to a polygon). 2. The property would be added to NRStyle and SPStyle classes. 3. Add buttons to the Stroke Style UI. 4. As far as I know, paths are rendered in DrawingShape::_renderItem(). This method reads style properties from a class member named _nrstyle. (Therefore we need to add properties to both NRStyle and SPStyle). Now, this method would read the property and stroke appropriately. At the time of writing Cairo does not have support for a style property like this, so we will do the offsetting in Inkscape. a) If the value is center, the same path would be used for both stroke and fill. b) In other case, first fill will be applied using the original path, then the offsetted path would be calculated and stroked. For the stroke-alignment values 'right' and 'left' applying the offset is as simple as offsetting by stroke-width/2, positive or negative respectively. 'inset' and 'outset' are a bit more problematic, especially for self-intersecting shapes. This figure shows how a self-intersecting pentagram would approximately look with different values of stroke-alignment if 'inset' and 'outset' are considered valid for self-intersecting paths. http://i.imgur.com/s8sLumk.png In this document I explain a procedure to stroke them, but there are some required algorithms I don't know, remarked in "Issue" boxes: https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/item/6356/stroke-alignment.pdf As for the state of the implementation: * After quite a bit of time I've got to understand the classes that make Inkscape render shapes. I have been able to add the required SVG property to Inkscape. I'll commit it soon. The controls in the UI will be hidden under a compile time flag. * I've written code to outline the stroke, but also... * I've found several important bugs in half_outline() that cause it to fail even for simple shapes.
