[bug] exported pdf split in multiple pages with --export-latex option

Hi all, I was using inkscape for converting svg files to pdf, so that i can use it for my latex documents. Everything works fine a few month ago. But, today when I use it again, I find out I can't compile my document. And, it's because the pdf file that inkscape export contains multiple pages (just one line or one shape for each page). Here is how I generated the pdf inkscape -D -z --file=image.svg --export-pdf=image.pdf --export-latex For me, all svg files generates this problem. One of the file is: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b3/Window_function_and_frequency_r… The version is Inkscape 0.91 r13725 (Jan 30 2015). However, if i remove the "--export-latex" option, everything works fine. Can anyone help me with it? Thanks a lot! Best regards, Weipeng

Native MacOSX build

Hello, I've seen some recent effort to build Inkscape as a native MacOSX application https://code.launchpad.net/~suv-lp/inkscape/osxmenu GIMP is now built as a native MacOSX application (and it works nicely), therefore I believe that there should not be huge roadblocks in the underlying technology. What is the status for Inkscape? From the above linked page it is difficult to get the wide picture. I have more development experience on Linux than on MacOSX, but I would like to dedicate some time and help on this effort. Where should I start? Thanks. Cheers, Daniele

Save and Export

Hi all, I am very much in favor of moving all the non native file format options to export. Apart from preventing saving into lossy formats, it really makes more sense from a logical point of view to have the non native file formats reside in export. Even plain SVG should be considered to be in this category. It is not about the fact you can edit a non native file format, I would like to state that the open dialog can allow opening 3rd party file formats as usual. When it comes to saving file I would like to see what I make being exactly what is being saved and not accidentally end up with conversion errors. From a UX perspective it makes more sense as well to have the Export option open up dialogs for each and every separate file format that relate to this file format and perhaps a small About this format screen what the expected loss could be. I don't care much about what other programs do on this issue and would certainly not point to Adobe software for good UI examples, but would like to state that it would allow for a more logical placement of interactions and probably would simplify work flow. I would suggest to add an option save project button though. This opening an option to save the current file in iteration form from the last used name (by adding a number or letter) and generating an number of export files, such as .pdf, png or whatever, possibly generate several versions of SVG, with css exports file attached to it, copies of used fonts and what all the like. It's a crying shame that SVG fonts got dropped in SVG2 or it would be another great option to include, but having a tool like this would open up a really nice work flow method that can safe wads of time in producing content and give a clear insight in the differences of file formats. I could even envision creating native files that in one case use relative path and in the other version absolute path. Very handy when it comes to testing files locally and having to produce something that runs in a web browser as content hosted on a web site. Currently that is a question of opening up the file in an editor and changing all the friggin path names. Component Transfer primitives Discrete and Table no longer work in trunk and because of that a lot of filters are now broken. ivan

More advanced guides

I do a lot of CAD-like work and to work around certain missing features, I use guides a lot. The snapping system is awesome but the guides are not very flexible. What would be a huge improvement is if it would be possible to select guides. This opens up a whole range of possibilities which extensions and internal tools can benefit from. Examples are: -Create a 3rd guide in the middle of two selected guides. -Create a 3rd guide equidistant from two other selected guides. -Select a few guides and delete them. While researching this topic, I came across an interesting discussion in 2009 with the title "rotating guides" in the inkscape-devel mailing list, where the interesting bit starts at the 3rd page. It appears that the ability to select guides is a bit controversial. I would like to express my opinion on some of these matters as I think it is still current. I agree that guides are not the same as objects and that not all tools make sense for them. However, I disagree that not implementing a helpful feature because it introduces UI issues is a valid argument. For example, I think that not being able to set the stroke and fill before an object is drawn (except for the color) is unexpected as well. So let's not implement fill and stroke at all, because people might get confused. That is basically what is being said below. Grayed out dialog items were invented because sometimes things just don't make sense. I think that is the solution to this problem. Here are some quotes from that discussion: "I don't think making guides selectable is a good idea, because barring any ugly hacks we can only select SPObjects." "if we make guides selectable, this will open a whole can of worms - people will complain that the guides cannot be painted by clicking on a color swatch, cannot be aligned with Align dialog, cannot be grouped etc. etc. A lot of things that are natural for objects make little sense for guides, but by allowing to select them we hint that they are "sort of" objects. The amount of special-casing that this will require in the code and, more importantly, in user documentation and user habits and practices is rather frightening." "It may be confusing for some people, but I think it shouldn't be for the vast majority, especially if it's documented. There are plenty of places where the program can be potentially a LOT more confusing that this, but we don't worry so much if it provides a wanted functionality." "Some of the tools are designed to operate on objects of finite dimensions only. When an object has infinite dimensions, it creates problems."

Debugging with Visual Studio

I figured out how to step through code in Inkscape using Visual Studio and I made a wiki for it too: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Using_Visual_Studio It requires a plugin called VisualGDB which unfortunately isn't free, but definitely affordable. Finally I can use my favorite tool :-)

Inkscape the next release

Hello, as we are now on the road to the release I want to focus to more advanced pdf export. The goal is to have a press ready output. With more detailed font, colour and page handling. As I understand our cairo renderer can output pdf but will never achieve this goal bcs cairo is simply not made for this. (Colour handling). So this task will end up with code taken from scribus or gegl or something. as starting point for reviewing the features I collected screenshots from scribus and corel export dialogues here http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Export_To_Pdf_dialogs However the converter will look like the export dialogue should be kept simple for regular users and more detailled for the experts. .... If we can share some force into this topic over the next period would be perfect. Also did we talk about "save vs export vs save copy as"? Make vs btool

I would like to debug Inkscape on Windows but given the lack of response here, I want to try a different approach. http://sourceforge.net/p/inkscape/mailman/message/33438177/ It is possible to debug a linux application on Windows using Visual Studio and WinGDB. However, they only support Make, not Btool. I asked WinGDB for support and this was their reply: /////////////// WinGDB can work with other build systems than make, but project generation is supported only for make. You should be able to build and debug, though. You need to change default command lines from 'make' calls to something suitable to build system used.
