I always found it a pity Inkscape does so little with % as part of the beauty of SVG is the use of such values for scaling of objects. I believe % are not accepted in Inkscape and setting the size of an object to 50% will just scale the object rather than make it set to 50% values. Use case for it is for web designs that align objects to a centre point, scale rects to 20% of the right edge of the screen etc. It is valid SVG, but probably a lot of work to implement. Now though I always have to handcode that kind of stuff, so it would be way cool to let Inkscape set those values. Basically all you need to know is the size of the user screen, which can't be that hard either. Think how easy it would be to use % for doing hatch patterns, using nothing but a dash array and a line in a clip area the size of the object the hatching should be in. One line, line hatch + dash array, two lines + dash array, cross hatch with patterns. It renders fine in a browser. At least Inkscape can figure out that 100% should display the document in the screen resolution in this example. Spurious warnings

Hi all, I've been going through a (really small) number of compile warnings and stumbled upon this one: src/2geom/generic-interval.h: In member function 'Geom::Rect Inkscape::Filters::FilterPrimitive::filter_primitive_area(const Inkscape::Filters::FilterUnits&)': src/2geom/generic-interval.h:65:9: warning: 'y' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wuninitialized] src/display/nr-filter-primitive.cpp:146:12: note: 'y' was declared here src/2geom/generic-interval.h:65:9: warning: 'x' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wuninitialized] src/display/nr-filter-primitive.cpp:145:12: note: 'x' was declared here (GCC 4.6.1 (tdm-1) on Windows) The warning seems bogus to me, the value is certainly correctly initialized, and I've added code to check that everything that is assigned to it is also initialized. What fixes the warning is changing the first lines of that function Geom::OptRect const fa_opt = units.get_filter_area(); if (!bb_opt || !fa_opt) { return Geom::Rect (Geom::Point(0.,0.), Geom::Point(0.,0.)); } Geom::Rect const &bb = *bb_opt; Geom::Rect const &fa = *fa_opt; to Geom::OptRect const fa_opt = units.get_filter_area(); if (!bb_opt || !fa_opt) { return Geom::Rect (Geom::Point(0.,0.), Geom::Point(0.,0.)); } Geom::Rect const &bb = *bb_opt; Geom::Rect const &fa = *units.get_filter_area(); No joke... So, in conclusion: it will be impossible to compile with -Werror for now :'(, due to spurious compiler warnings that can't be avoided without hurting the code. (another one is templated functions with a signed comparison logic, that are then instantiated with unsigned template arguments...) Disappointing :-( Johan (PS. thanks for the help in fixing this)

Windows: btool update

Hi all, I just modified buildtool to output less uninteresting stuff, and output warnings instead, so it is easier to spot and fix warnings for your code. So next time you bzr up: "g++ -O3 buildtool.cpp -o btool.exe -fopenmp". Hope you like it. Cheers, Johan

lib2geom Mac OS X build

Hi, I managed to build lib2geom on OS X. Since it was not an easy task I thought it might be useful to share the information with the community. I planned to write a small tutorial and make it available soon. But first I'd like to request some advice regarding the following issues I faced during the build. 1. Avoid glib dependency I wanted to link lib2geom against my application without having to link against glib too so I replaced the following line in src/2geom/svg-path-parser.cpp: _push(g_ascii_strtod(buf.c_str(), NULL)); with _push(strtod(buf.c_str(), NULL)); and removed the glib.h include. 2. Removing librt Since librt does not exist in OS X (and is not required too) I removed the following line in src/2geom/toys/CMakeLists.txt TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES(lpetoy "-lrt") TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES(toy-2 "-lrt") 3. Hey Devs, This is another report on how our release items are shaping up. The past two weeks we've got the same three blockers: Blockers: 3 * High #1163449 Imported bitmap appear blurry when zoomed in * Medium #953992 Imported pattern fill disappears while transforming * Medium #1005892 Patterns applied to text objects are blurred I don't know if 953992 is still really in progress, but we should make sure the bug status is kept up to date. If you're working on one of these bugs, do set the status so duplication is avoided. We have 59 targeted bugs for the next release. plotter support

hi, nice to hear that there will be a new release soon. i would like to add something to the release: out of the basic hpgl export i have developed a complete plotter solution for inkscape (yes, i know of inkcut, but it doesn't run on windows), with it you can drive your plotter directly over the HPGL command language and a serial connection. it has overcut, tool offset correction and many more features. two of my blog readers have already tested it extensively. you can test it on my branch: https://code.launchpad.net/~sebi-k/inkscape/HpglAndPlotter i would like to get it into the 0.49 (or whatever it will be called) release, and i have a couple of questions about it: 1. is it ok to merge to trunk now? 2. what wiki / release notes / other stuff do i have to bring up to date to reflect my changes? 3. anything else i have to consider? 4. how are code review requests done here? i didnt found much about it... also it would be really nice if everyone with a plotter / cutting plotter could test it! regards, TimeWaster On 28.10.2013 15:22, Martin Owens wrote: > Hey Devs, > > This is another report on how our release items are shaping up. EPS export: different results for level 2 and level 3

Hi, I'm trying to export a BPMN diagram modeled with Oryx using Inkscape to EPS. When using EPS level 3, opened boxes are converted to closed ones. When using EPS level 2, the graphics seems to be converted to images. Does anyone experience similar issues when exporting EPS level 2 vs. level 3?
