Text import extension does not load in Ubuntu

Hi everyone, I'm helping to maintain the Ubuntu package of Inkscape. I mentioned in bug #479944 that the text import extension does not load in Ubuntu. I'd be grateful if anyone can offer any extra debugging assistance with this - I can't see any obvious reason why the extension does not load. As I mentioned in comment #7, extension-errors.log doesn't report any problems. Thanks, Alex

NEW: mouseover cursors in Selector

Selector tool has a new mouse cursor (arrow with an open hand) for when your mouse is over a selectable object, and another (arrow with clinched hand) for when you're dragging an object. This improves precision of selection and UI consistency (previously, the mouse cursor over a selectable object was different across platforms, e.g. hand icon on Linux or four-way arrow on Windows). -- bulia byak Inkscape. PDF export wrong color for black line

Hi all, For those of you that know a little about cairo, please have a look here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/665628 It is a somewhat strange bug, as it only happens for completely black paths, not for other colors, while Inkscape does the same for paths with any color. So I think it is a cairo bug. Thanks for looking into this. Ciao, Johan

Exporting a SVG to PS causes excessive blurriness

Hi everyone, I am trying, but struggling, to find a solution to bug #585286 [1], where exporting a SVG containing a transparent PNG to PS causes excessive blurriness. This is a major bug for me. I've done as much research as I can do on this bug. After delving through the code base, I think this bug is related to bug #427226 and bug #208217 - apparently Postscript does not support alpha transparency [2], which I think is what is causing the rasterization, and I think it is happening within Cairo. However, it still supports clipping and masking, so as far as I can tell this should be technically possible! An alternative is simply to increase the resolution of the forced rasterization, but I can't find anywhere in the code to increase this. Would this be part of Inkscape or Cairo? I've tried using Cairo 1.10.0 with no effect. If anybody has some knowledge of Inkscape/Cairo and can suggest some solutions or even ideas, I would be most grateful. LaTeX vs. other forms of TeX.

There is a presumption that the de facto version of TeX is LaTeX. However the latest work in TeX is centered around non-LaTeX versions such as XeTeX and Luatex. Some of us prefer our TeX without the excess baggage of LaTeX. So I wonder if it would be practical to have the Inkscape output of TeX text in e.g., pdftex format as well as LaTeX format? adopted extensions in point releases

Hi, We have a number of adopted extensions shipped with Inkscape. One of them is JessyInk, which, IIRC, was updated at least twice since we added it -- once in August and yesterday. Crop tool should be straight forward to implement, thoughts?

G'day everyone, I had a thought after some observation and while it wouldn't look good on our already crowded toolbox, it should be fairly easy to implement a crop tool. In practice its just applying parent group to all things then a clippath and finally a resize page to contents command which we already have the code for... Also, it would be easy to have a rule that crops from the selection (if things are selected) by skipping that last resize page and only grouping the already selected stuff.. maybe attached as a mode of the default selector tool from the parent toolbar My thinking is that right now creating clippaths is a weird concept for new-to-vector users, but almost everyone gets the idea of cropping This could be a very achievable GSOC feature if someone is willing to mentor it.. Personally, I can see how much simpler it would be rather than drawing rects and making a weird selection every time i want to crop. to new users, this workflow is not obvious What are the thoughts here? -- Andy
