Converting rpm packages to tgz to install Inkscape

On http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Installing_Inkscape#Slackware_Linux "I used the precompiled rpm provided by Inkscape for the 0.44 release as my gcc wouldn't compile it. All you need to then do is run rpm2tgz at the command line on the package, eg " rpm2tgz inkscape-0.44-0.i686.rpm" and then install with "installpkg inkscape-0.44-0.i686.tgz"." I'm not yet a *NIX developer, but sense that there may be a more generic set of instructions hidden in this specific tip. Would it be correct to say, 'RPM packages can be used to install Inkscape from a GNU zipped tar ball (.tgz) by using the appropriate converter utility, rpm2tgz, after retrieving the rpm. Thus, "rpm2tgz inkscape-0.44-0.i686.rpm" produces inkscape-0.44-0.i686.tgz, which can be installed with "installpkg inkscape-0.44-0.i686.tgz".' The title of the section, I imagine, could then be something like, "Converting an RPM package for installation as a GNU zipped tar ball (.tgz)".

Hi all, In the FAQ I read: "Note that on Windows you must provide full paths for all files: inkscape -e c:\mydir\file.png c:\mydir\file.svg Without the c:\mydir\ it won't work." Why is this so? Perhaps someone can point me in the direction of solving this? Thanks, Johan

Hello. I'm a member of the April association (http://april.org), a French advocacy group for Free Software. We are building a booklet, presenting 25 must-have free softwares. Inkscape has been selected as vector graphics editor. We are now requesting authorisation to the project teams to use their logos in the booklet, as well as specific rules you might want us to apply when using it. I checked on your website, but couldn't find anything related to this specific subject. Hi, The next Libre Graphics Meeting [1] is planned for late May in Brussels. For last couple of years there have been very few developers present at the conference. Given current amount of European contributors to the project it would be great to see more Inkscape related activity at the conference again. So please think about visiting it ;-) There was a lite academic bias last year, so maybe our past and present Lyon Polytechnique students would like to attend? Increasing Boost version for py2geom

Hello all, While trying to build py2geom, I run into problems because the version of Boost that we use (1.34) does not support our compiler's version (gcc 4.4.1). Not being able to build py2geom is not a huge problem for Inkscape, but it is a big disappointment. I read that Boost 1.37+ does support gcc 4.4.0. Boost 1.34 was released in 2007. Boost 1.37 at the end of 2008. Is that too recent for us to be able to use it? Increasing the version of Boost for Windows is not a big problem, since we have our devlibs. For Linux, I do not know the issues involved. Thanks, Johan

Node tool crash due to modified path data?

Trying to node-edit the third path in the attached file immediately and reproducibly crashes inkscape (tested with Inkscape 0.47+devel r9092 on OS X 10.5.8). - The path was created by combining two copies of a rectangle and applying (testing) the proposed extension 'Remove redundant edges' from recent launchpad report #521988 <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/521988> - The path is rendered without error in Squiggle (Batik 1.7) - The path can be node-edited in Inkscape 0.47 r22583 without crash.
