Any ideas? Actually, I would like if one could choose the unit and step of All options out there. For example, when doing Live Path effects, clicking on the "width" field gives me increments of 0.01. Now really, the minimum increment -I-'d want is 0.1. Clicking 10 times just to get 0.1 is not very feasible, so it'd be nice if for all tools, in the options area, you can set a unit yourself. That and, Shift-click to change in increments of 10 times the base unites. Alt-click can go in increments of 0.1 times the base unit too. Does such a proposal exist already?

Proposal: stick to node or stick to segment

The concept is pretty simple: you take two nodes, you have them "stick" together (think snapping), and when you move the other node directly or indirectly (moving the whole object), the other node stuck to it moves along. Same with segments. It basically makes a copy of that segment and its handles, and sticks all of them together. Same with whole objects actually, I forgot that one, you "snap" the whole object onto a point. Background: I mainly came up with the concept because I like (trying to) do drawings with complex strokes. The new LPE interface makes the complex strokes a lot easier, but if you actually want to fill anything in between, you have to edit the strokes And the fill (basically doubling the edit time). Now, you Could tell me to just deal with it and/or delete the fill and make a new one, but it becomes a whole other story if Inkscape wants to include animation one day, so consider this a preliminary feature: http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/2604/stickynodesja9.png The problem is the interface. We could have a sub-mode of Edit, or a whole new tool, and of course we'll need shortcuts. Then for that new fill option, a new option would have to be added as well. I'm still pondering the matter (as well as the text tool interface), but maybe some of you have ideas already? This way at least we could discuss the blueprint. Maybe when Summer of Code 2009 comes around, some student would be interested and take up the whole thing! :)

Thank your for your advice, almost 1 hour to build in full debug mode. After crashing inkscape (by previewing the icon), the backtrace is empty, it tell me that there is no call stack. SPCurve::get_pathvector instead of get_bpath

Hi all, Maybe you've noticed: I reworked the internals of SPCurve such that now it is possible to get the old Inkscape pathtype (NArtBpath) or the 2geom type PathVector (both representations are kept in-sync with each other). I have started converting all calls for the old type (get_bpath or SP_CURVE_BPATH) to the new PathVector type (get_pathvector). Helping me with this conversion would be really nice, but I think I have already dealt with most of the easy ones. Therefore... My request is for *new* code to use get_pathvector! I'm sure you'll find the 2geom type much nicer to work with than the old path type. If you need help, talk to us in the lib2geom jabber channel; some times functionality is lacking from 2geom and we are very interested in hearing about them! :-) Johan

Segfault in select-context.cpp

Hi, all. I am geting a segfault at line 413 in select-context.cpp during startup: switch (event->type) { where "event" is null. This is in sp_select_context_root_handler(), which is called by, in the stack, sp_event_context_root_handler() sp_desktop_root_handler(), which is called by sp_marshal_BOOLEAN__POINTER() which is a Glib thing. "event" appears to be null all the way up. Has there been a change to any of the knot code to cause this, or am I seeing a typical verb alignment problem from verbs.h being edited and a clean build being required? I did a clean build twice, just in case, but no effect. bob

I'm not sure about what to do with all the other options though (or if they're even necessary with the pencil tool), the toolbar is getting quite crowded as is.
