I am currently working on Inline Function Removal and while replacing calls to sp_repr_set_attr with direct calls to the wrapped member functions I noticed that the wrapped function is defined as void. There are tests that are run to check if sp_repr_set_attr fails. sp_repr_set_attr always returns true although I suspect this was designed to change at some point If sp_repr_set_attr is replaced in one of these tests for example: /// \todo fixme: Exception if object is NULL? */ if (!sp_repr_set_attr(object->repr, key, NULL)) { No value will return and the compilation will fail. Should I just comment out these tests or remove them and leave the todo? As of now the tests just accept true from sp_repr_set_attr and they don't actually check anything. Jimmy Varvaro

Filter examples update

Ted, Mauve provided a newer version of inkscape-filters.svg with more filter examples in it. I simply updated it in svn. includes edge detection, sephia, age, blueprint, emboss, and many more. Everything below Patterned Glass is new. Let me know if there is something i can do. Joshua L. Blocher

Filter examples update

NEW: Filter Effects

Hey, So I subclassed the effects to provide an easier way to just add filters on a group of objects. Hopefully bringing this into the realm where anyone who understands the filter dialog could build their own filter effect. It needs to documentation and overall is less than complete, but I thought I'd put it out there for people to play with. I took all the examples from Mauve's excellent example file[1] and turned them into effects on the effects menu. Now you should be able to just grab and object and apply these to your objects. To create your own I suggest copying "sepia.h" in /src/extensions/internal/filter and replacing the strings. All you need is a non-translated name (ID), Menu name, description and then the filter that you want to apply. You'll then need to add it to "filter-all.cpp" but that is also pretty straight-forward. If someone isn't faster, I'll make better docs. [2] It is a little more difficult to use parameters, but not that hard. There is one example of that, drop shadow, which of course works with live-effects also. I would also like to clean this up and make it easier. The biggest limitation of the implementation right now is that it will ONLY apply if there isn't a filter on the object currently. Long term, I'd like it to merge the filters. That's all for now! --Ted [1] I didn't take Drop Shadow from there because I was looking at the SVG file and the filter for Drop Shadow is above the linear gradient where I started looking, so I missed it. No seriously, stop laughing. [2] I would like for someone with a light programming background to do this as they're likely not to skip over things that other people would need to get started.

Buildtool -- new "continueOnError" flag

Johan asked me to look into a way of having buildtool continue processing files after a compile error happens on a file. Although going to the next task after a failure would be incorrect, there is nothing to stop us from letting the <cc> task continue processing its file list after a compile failure. So now there is a new attribute for <cc>: continueOnError="true" which will allow the <cc> task to proceed with its file list after an error. At the end of processing the list, it will return failure as before. If you want to use this feature, just set the flag to true, and read the "compile.lst" compiler listing file after buildtool is done. By the way, everyone should read compile.lst occasionally, even when builds are successful. Warnings are listed there. bob

Toolbar icon sizes

The preferences for the toolbar icon sizes has been changed from a simple toggle of two sizes, to a combo to allow for three sizes. Also, all three toolbars are now configurable. This fixes a problem many users, especially Ubuntu users, were seeing on monitors that only went to 1024x768 or smaller. Things should not affect anyone's existing preferred setup, and should take manual intervention to see a difference in the UI. Give it a bit of a shake-down and see if there are any problems with settings, etc. Thanks. p.s. yes, I did get the release notes updated also. :-)

converting to C++, helper script

Hello all, In my branch (gsoc2008_johan_path2geom), I've been converting SPCurve to a proper C++ class. A lot of the work involves replacing "sp_curve_moveto(c, p);" to "c->moveto(p);" . I've written a script to do this kind of thing. If anyone wants to move more to C++, I think you'll find this automation very handy. Basically, the script searches for a certain regexp, and replaces it with another. There is a confirmation check on every occurance, because the replacement might go wrong (in my script "sp_curve_moveto(human->arm().fingerpath, p);" is incorrectly replaced with invalid code). I have added the file to our wiki. Do we have a page about converting to C++? I'd like to move my SPCurve C++ify to trunk, I have tested and there seem to be no bugs. Can I proceed? Cheers, Johan
