Post Effect Selections

I missed an interesting discussion about which objects should be selected after an effect. I started of the opinion that the previous selection should be restored in order to make affecting the same objects again simpler. But someone suggested that the effect should be able to control the selection. That sounds very interesting. How would this be done? Would an effect insert some sort of attribute (like inkscape:select-me="1") into each object that should be selected? This attribute would be discarded by Inkscape on load. Any other solution would likely pass a list of selected ids. Id collision was one of the first things I wondered about while writing effects. What would happen if I assign a new object an id that is already taken? Inkscape of course fixes it for me. But I have been assigning no id to new objects and letting Inkscape handle the whole thing. This probably isn't a good behavior. And it wouldn't allow for ids to be passed back to Inkscape. What should an effect do to properly handle id assignments? Aaron Spike

Hey! Before donate to you for inkscape, help me or help users whit this bug or non-logical attemp !!! Where i find the plugin's, dep's or packages, for INKSCAPE do run normaly? Check you're soft before say to poeple how are a great product! Have installed all the svg, perl, xml, etc and the dont run correctly. Checking the log file?, euh? say what? And i have not any times to find the faq or other's helping sites. It's you're soft ! Do help us! log file buggly... Embed Raster

I was looking at this RFE: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1224283&group_id=9… And I figured I could whip up a quick INX file to make it work as an effect: <inkscape-extension> <name>Embed Raster Images</name> <id>org.inkscape.filter.embedraster</id> <dependency type="executable" location="extensions">embed_raster_in_svg.pl</dependency> <dependency type="executable" location="path">perl</dependency> <effect> <object-type>all</object-type> </effect> <script> <command reldir="extensions" interpreter="perl">embed_raster_in_svg.pl</command> </script> </inkscape-extension> But the embed_raster_in_svg.pl script dies at line 110. My entire knowledge of perl comes from two weeks of playing with it for a project last year. And I am thoroughly confused by the Lord Of The Rings humor embedded in the file. Odd issue with copy-cut-paste.

Hi! I just spoke with bryce on IRC and he told me to go ahead and email the list. I have an issue in inkscape that only happens when I choose an object, copy, cut, and then paste that object back into the same file. Whenever I perform these tasks in a row, the object that I have just pasted disappears in any preview or use mode, such as in nautilus, gimp, gnome-panel, gnome icon themes, etc. but whenever I look at the file in inkscape, the object is still there. I can edit the object, distort it, reshape it, etc. and as long as I do not cut-copy-paste, the object remains visible. And nothing I do after the copy-cut-paste makes the object visible again. I have reviewed the xml files and I cannot see a difference that would make the object invisible. I have included two sample files: the original gnome-fs-directory.svg file, and then the modified gnome-fs-directory-issue.svg file that has a major object that has been copied-cut-pasted, that no longer appears visible. I can repeat this issue on any file with the same results. I've scoured google looking for any hints, and the only thing I could find was regarding Nautilus 2.1.5, and I'm on 2.10.0. Is there anything I can do to repair the object to make it visible again?

xml:space namespace error

The attribute xml:space="preserve" as found on Inkscape's flowDiv causes an XML Namespace Error when being parsed by PyXML's SAX2 reader. Any of my python effects should display this error. Is this our problem or PyXML's? Aaron Spike

Can't select multiple files in file open dialog: Multiple File Open.

Hello ! Theres a bug listed in SF. BUG ID [1194728]. <BUG> Can't select multiple files in file open dialog I'd like to open (and work on/compare) some documents, which all are in the same directory. I can't just select them using control/shift-clicking, but it's necessary to open files singly. </BUG> I have a patch, that makes it work on the CVS head. It modifies src/file.cpp & src/dialog/filedialog.[h|cpp]. There are 3 patch files, one for each, Im wondering what to do. Please try the patches from https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1223534&group_id=… [Note: The patch is a text file only, but SF says its a binary file etc, just save it and view via a standard editor, firefox doesnt show it]. With the flowtext mostly in place, I wonder if we can package a pre0 release now. Not all features are finished yet, but this will make it easier for people to test it. exporting issues/bug

today i noticed that when exporting that if selection is used everything in the Bounding box is exported not just the selected object(s) is this behavior correct or should i file a bug. did i quick search of bugs nothing found. using cvs from early this morning josh blocher verbalshadow

no valid pdf output

Hey guys, I wanted to create a pdf of the file located in http://home.tu-clausthal.de/~dcb/linux/rocknacht.tar.gz (also includes the fonts)... but the created pdf cannot be viewed by any of my viewers. Could someone have a look at why? Thanx! David

Hello. I downloaded Inkscape and installed in my PC without any problem. I use a Dell 8400, Windows XP, Japanese version.
