GUADEC logo invitation
by David Neary
Hey there,
The fifth annual GNOME conference, GUADEC [GNOME Users and
Developers European Conference], will be held in Kristiansand
28-30.June, 2004.
We need a logo for the event.
Ideally we are looking for a logo including the GNOME footage
with a local Norwegian touch. If you are interested in helping out
please send your proposal to guadec-planning@...45... as soon as
possible.
The logo will be used for promotion, on website, t-shirts etc..
Since the logo will be used on material of many different sizes,
proposals should be in a vector format if possible. All proposals
will be on display on the website of the conference.
Many thanks,
The GVADEC V Team

banner printing
by Robert Crosbie
Hi all,
I have a 8.25 x 40" svg graphic that I want to print as a template for a
scrollsaw project. I'd like to try and print it out on 8.5x14 paper which I
can then tape together for my template.
Is there any way to do this using inkscape or some other means under Linux.
I have to admint, I'm not familiar with inkscapes printing mechanism because
I always export my images to bitmaps and use gimp for final manipulations
before printing.
Thanks,
Rob.

RE: [Inkscape-devel] Re: default document
by bulia byak
I checked in the Tutorial command in the Help menu. It simply opens
tutorial.svg from INKSCAPE_PIXMAPDIR, where it is put by "make install" from
icons/. Feel free to change the directory structure; I don't know hot to
properly modify makefiles, so I just listed tutorial.svg next to about.svg
in icons/makefile.am and it seems to work. Win32 build files may need
updating, too.
The tutorial is very preliminary, but I think I will finish it before the
release. Suggestions welcome.

Update on Inkscape release plan
by Bryce Harrington
It sounds like there's a desire to push the release back a week, due
mainly to concerns about mail trouble from the virus.

RE: default document

What's wrong with the list? I don't see any mail in it since yesterday.

We almost have it already. It now works via the default namedview template
in preferences.xml. It allows you to set paper size, color, border width &
shadow, grid and guide options, plus zoom and center of view.
As for easy setting, I think now the best approach is to add a "save as
template" button in the Document Options doalog, now that I've collected all
document options into one dialog.
Ultimately, we'll need a support for multiple external templates and a "new
for template" option, but for now the template in preferences.xml is good
enough I think.

So the logic is mostly there, except for the button, which should not be
difficult to add. But you can edit your template in preferences already, and
it may make sense to mention this in docs somewhere... but on the other
hand, keyboard shortcuts are more important, and we still don't have them in
the Help menu.

default document
by MenTaLguY
For some reason nathan's mail isn't getting through -- he asked me to
forward this:
Subject: default document
From: Nathan Hurst <njh@...32...>
Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2004 12:34:41 +1100
To: bulia byak <bulia@...23...>, inkscape
<inkscape-devel(a)lists.sourceforge.net>
Hi Bulia,
sometime ago we discussed the idea of making a default document open
when inkscape is first installed, perhaps only opening on the first time
use of inkscape, perhaps until the user changes their default document
settings.
The idea was to have inkscape check for ~/.inkscape/default.svg and open
that for "run without any parameters", and if ~/.inkscape/default.svg
were missing, to use the system wide default.svg given in
doc/default.svg. This gives us the ability for users to start with
their prefered document options (such as page size, colour, etc). The
tutorial should explain how this works so that the user can change the
default easily (checkbox in save?).
I'm suggesting we try and get this in for this release, particularly if
someone can work on the tutorial to explain some of the features that
people tend to miss when they first try out inkscape(knots, offsets,
printing to .ps). I'm writing to you because you would be the best
person to implement the logic for this (I think?).

fullscreen mode
by Johan C
Hi,
I'm interested in coding on inkscape. I've coded for Worldforge together
with Bryce.
I've talked a bit with some developers on gristle.org and decided to hack in
fullscreen mode and maybe patterns later on.
If anyone can point me in the right direction for the fullscreen mode that'd
be great.
So far, I've seen a gtk_window_fullscreen function somewhere with a GDK_F mask
shortcut. I'll make this F11 as in the keyboard shortcuts todo on wiki.
People on gristle.org suggested putting in a menuitem for it in the View
menu.
Any suggestions are welcome.
