very slow loading of docs (win32)

I am notice that first time loading of documents containing text takes as much as 2+ minutes. This is the case even for very small docs (with one word) in them. I notice that the application is loading all the fonts and I have some huge unicode font files. Even after removing some of the bigger ones, it is still slow. Is this to do with pango/freetype? If so, any plans to move to newer version of pango/freetype? Thanks in advance Sudhan

OK Bulia, thanks for this. IMHO I feel this as not so flexible or coherent. Is there a way to challenge the spec, and have it updated in a future release, so that the clones become more flexible (up to the user to decide wether the geometry, move, stroke, fill (etc) must be linked with original or not). clone behavior

Hi all, I face a small issue while translating the tutorial from JP Bourgeoy (mirror effect), I'm facing a problem with the behavior of the clones. -> fill and stroke of the cloned object is locked and synchronized with the original object (while user can choose if geometric transformations are linked or not) the problem is i'd like to clone the original object, then fill it with black and move it to enhance relief/create a shadow. -> not possible I was wondering if it would be a good idea to let the user completely choose (in Inkscape prefs for example) the behavior and thus decide if fill and stroke must be linked or not. At the moment, there is a simple workaround : duplicate then group. Shall I submit a RFE ? Regards, Geraud

selection cue

A long time ago, when Carl proposed the box selection cue (every selected object is enframed by a dashed box), I did not want to make this the default because I found it to be too intrusive. However, since then I grew to like this more than the default selection cue (every selected object has a diamond mark in the top left corner) and I find that I use the box selcue all the time. It's not so intrusive once you get used to it, and it gives a much better idea of the object extent and is nice for aligning things. Also, previously the selcue was only displayed in selector, where the scale/rotation handles make the selcue box a bit redundant; now however the selcue is displayed in most other tools that have no other handles around the selection. Hence a question: would you agree or disagree if I make bbox selcue the default? In case you don't know how to change it: Preferences > Tools > Selector, change "Per-object selection cue" from "Mark" (current default) to "Box".

I do think these should be corrected, just not sure of the "proper" fix.

creating a pdf

Hi guys, I know that the standart way of creating a pdf with inkscape is using scribus. and I don't really mind. But I have a really old copy of scribus and before compiling a new one, I'd like to know, if by now it can handle transparencies and gradients for the import of svgs. I'll also ask the scribus list, of course :) David

clean up defs -- extended

when putting some documents together you might end up with more than just one def-section and for some reason I had linked defs in front of the definitions, they were linked to. This seems to cause some weird behavior where you can't change the gradient with choosing a different one once, but you have to do so twice. Also: Gradients are mor object orientated now, which I really like. going with this, each time I switch to gradient from a solid color, a new gradient is created. This gradient should automatically deleted right away, if I don't do anything exept for switching to a existing gradient. Otherwise I'm kinde forced to do clean up defs and in the worst case I have to create extra objects for the gradients, I want to keep. I hope you understand what I'm saying... seems kinda confusing to me David
