NEW: two new examples
by bulia byak
With all the recent additions - clipping, masking, and especially blur
- Inkscape is now able to produce extremely photorealistic art. In the
share/examples folder in Inkscape distribution, you will find two
brand new, stunningly realistic images of shiny cars: car.svgz by
Konstantin Rotkevich and gallardo.svgz by Michael Grosberg.
Enjoy!

Re: [Inkscape-devel] [Inkscape-user] Windows build crash?
by bulia byak
I can confirm that with Win2k and latest build. Any switching to
Selector tool from any other tool crashes, you don't even need to
create a text. On XP it's ok, though.
Arnout, can you please download older builds and find out when this started?

toolbar menus
by unknown@example.com
I just put in a first-cut of menus for the toolbar spinbuttons. You should be
able to get them from the "more" menu when there is not enough room to show the
spinbutton on the toolbar, and also by right-clicking on the spinbutton itself.

[ANN] Linux Expo London 25/26th October
by Ben Fowler
Per http://www.linuxexpo.org.uk/, there will be a presentation at the
.Org Village of the London Expo for Inkscape.
Anyone based in the UK should consider visiting this event which is
the major national Linux event of the year and is attended by many
'suits' but still has a slightly 'geeky' flavour.
We should be alongside the Audio application Jokosher, and in the
illustrious company of Gnome, Drupal and many others.
Nearly every sizeable FLOSS project uses Inkscape for something even
if only the creation of a humble logo or web page mock up and it a
chance to speak to end-users even if rather an unrepresentative
collection.

character palette
by Alexandre Prokoudine
Greetings,
A while ago Pierre-Luc Auclair and me created an illustrated proposal
for advanced character palette in Scribus. I thought that since a user
already requested this feature in Inkscape, somebody else could come
around implementing it one day or another, so I copied it to the
existing RFE:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=604309&aid=1306951&grou...
So, if you are this one, feel free to use this proposal for a start ;-)

Failing to load .svg files on OSX
by Jasper
Hello all,
I downloaded Inkscape for Mac OS X (I use 10.3.9) yesterday, and when I
tried to open my saved inkscape files today, they didn't open.
I joined the inkscape IRC chat and first ishmal and the JonCruz kindly
helped identify the problem as a bug. JonCruz told me to report the bug,
which I did (hopefully I did it right). He also said that if I asked
politely, someone on the mailing list might be able to help me get a
different build.
If there's anyone who can help me getting a different build for 10.3.9, it
would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Jasper (woodman663)

The next couple of weeks I don't have too much time to work on Inkscape :(
sorry.
At the moment the axonomgrid already snaps in X direction to the vertical
gridlines. We have to think about how diagonal snapping should work (and in
the process make diagonal guidelines :). Without too much hassle I should be
able to make snapping work for the vertical gridlines and the points where 3
gridlines meet. After that I can debug the drawing code (zoom in close and
see that the emphasis lines are bugged).
The reorganisation of grids and gridsnapping gives me lots of frustration
every time, because of the C-style gtk-classes :S sorry. So that'll have to
wait for now, don't expect big changes on that matter soon.
Cheers,
Johan

patches in the tracker
by Jon Phillips
Hi all, I went through all the patches in the tracker, applied what I
could, made comments, assigned all to proper people, and now we wait for
responses.
Please, everyone take a look at what is still in there if you have
special expertise required to accomplish some of the tasks:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=browse&group_id=93438&atid=604308
We got many cool little fixes like building on irix, tru64, thai
language, many example illustrator files, file icons, etc from the
patches...I'm on the patch tracker now to make sure we keep this thing
flowing and get some new contributors (which keeping the queue clear
helps majorly!)
