LPE plugin framework

Hi all, I'd like to start working on building a *plugin* framework for the LPEs (for example, but maybe tools too? dunno, let's try with LPE 1st). My motivation is two-fold: 1. I'd like people to be able to create new LPEs without requiring a new Inkscape release, like the current python extensions 2. it seems a challenging task! :) I'd like to hear opinions, tips, critique, everything about this from you. Dr Dobb's has very recently published articles about building such a framework which I am intending to follow (haven't read any of it, except the title). Again what do you think of this? Considering the set that you're missing you probably only need to install something like "gtkmm-2.4-dev" or "gtkmm-2.4-devel". Updating the win32 library bundle

Hi, all, Several people have been asking me to make additions and changes to the library bundle before the release. Since there are so many, I would like to try it incrementally rather than everything at once. This would make it easier to pinpoint a problem. So first I've added Cairo 1.5.6 and Poppler 0.6.4. Here is the lib bundle: http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32libs/devlibs-2.12-080131.7z and a "full debug" build made with it is here: http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/Inkscape0801311945-fulldbg.7z and a regular build: http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/Inkscape0801312227.7z People who have had problems with PDF import recently might want to try these. Gtk 2.12 and the "C++ exceptions not crossing DLL boundaries" thing are next, I guess. And probably that libxml2 security fix, too (bug in parsing unicode escapes). bob

The interaction between anti-aliasing, transparency, and gamma-correction

Hi All, This is my first post to this list, so I will keep things brief. First of all, I love Inkscape, and this is the reason for the message. My tests indicate that, when rendering, Inkscape implements anti-aliasing and transparency directly in a gamma-corrected color-space. Am I right? It is my opinion that these operations should instead be performed in a linear color-space. Although it is now probably too late to change the default behavior of transparency (given that the artists used gamma-corrected blends as reference while creating their content), it is not too late to modify the behavior of anti-aliasing. Also, perhaps a tag could be used on future files to identify that they were created under the assumption of linear-blends. Jim Blinn has a very good article on the subject: Jim Blinn, 2003 "A Ghost in a Snow Storm", Jim Blinn's Corner: Notation, Notation, Notation, Chapter 9, pages 133--146, Morgan Kaufmann There, he explains the problems that arise from performing blends in a non-linear space, in better words than I ever could. At any rate, I'd be happy to give examples and to elaborate on the topic once I receive a message that reassures me I am posting on the correct alias. Is this using a python extension to inkscape, or in an external application?
