Speaking of devlibs... I just committed Cairo 1.7.4 to devlibs, along with Pixman 0.11.8. I know that it is an unstable version, but we probably need to experiment with this one for development purposes, since it has user font support and other text improvements. I did test it. I would say that it ran fine but it didn't. It had a crashing bug in win32_surface code, but Adrianj magnanimously fixed it immediately and it runs great now. Thanks! Elimination of SP_ACTIVE_DESKTOP

Hi, during a couple of boring compilation phases I recently decided to use my multitasking capabilities :) to eliminate quite a few instances of SP_ACTIVE_DESKTOP. These eliminations should be harmless because they mainly involved passing in the desktop variable from the caller. Anyway, please keep the change in mind and report any bugs this might nonetheless have introduced. E.g., I encountered one place in widgets/toolbox.cpp where the obvious change broke things (it's not committed yet; I'll have to investigate this further since it looks like there is bug hidden somewhere else). Since I wanted the changes to be safe I didn't touch the floating dialogs stuff. It's probably better if someone with more knowledge in this area (Gustav?) tackles this. Max

TikZ and PGF exporter

Hello everyone, For some time now I have been working on an Inkscape extension for exporting from SVG to TikZ/PGF format for use with LaTeX. A PGF exporter has been requested before[1], but as far as I can see no one has worked on this yet. The extension is not feature complete yet, but the code is available at: http://code.google.com/p/inkscape2tikz/ If someone are working on a TikZ/PGF exporter I would like to know. Maybe we can join forces. This is my first extension, so I would appreciate any comments. It is currently implemented as an effect to allow selecting which curves to export and allow clipboard export. I should probably also provide it as an exporter as well. What parts of the code should be tested?

As part of my GSoC project I'm also compiling a list of (currently untested) parts of the code that could definitely use a few (unit) tests. This list will include a few of my personal favourites, and I'm working with gcov and svn logs to determine some "objectively" interesting parts of the code. Now my question to you is: What parts of the code do you consider to be in urgent need of testing? Obviously the most straightforward answer is "all", but - again obviously - that is also the least interesting answer :)

Path representation

Hi all, I've been in a little discussion with Jasper and he has found a problem with the new path representation. A story about what now works, and what now does not work. Please check what I state here. It is how I have understood the SVG standard, but I could well be wrong. On purpose, Jasper and I discussed obscure paths. == Explicit closing line segment == A: "M 0,0 L 1,1 z" B: "M 0,0 L 1,1 L 0,0 z" These two paths are not identical in SVG. When adding midpoint markers, path A will not have a marker at (0,0), but path B will. Inkscape 0.46 did not distinguish between these two paths. 0.47 does distinguish them, however after nodetool editing, path A is converted to path B. I think this is a bug and it is better to always output path A after nodetool editing. It will be harder to remember whether to explicitly state the closing segment without showing multiple nodes on-canvas etc... == Line segment without moveto after closing path == C: "M x1,y1 ... z L x2,y2" D: "M x1,y1 ... z M x1,y1 L x2,y2" These paths are also not identical. I think this has to do with the stroke of a path being continued for path C after the closing "z" ; instead for path D, a new stroke is started after "z". Inkscape 0.47 is not able to represent the difference between these two paths, converting path C to path D. Unfortunately, 2geom's path representation (at the moment) is not able to represent path C. I can try to change things, but it will be an ugly hack probably... == Only moveto's in a path == E: "M 0,0 M 1,1 M 2,3" Such a path is used for paths where only markers should be shown, without stroking the rest of the path. Inkscape 0.46 discards this path data; 0.47 correctly handles this kind of path. Regards, Johan

tutorial copyright question

Hi, I'm going to write a tutorial for the calligraphy tool I implemented in Karbon, given that the tutorial of Inkscape is done very well and the tool is very similar I thought it would be silly to rewrite it from scratch. It isn't too clear under which license the tutorial is licensed so some clarification would be greatly appreciated. The xml file generating the tutorial contains the line: <!-- Copyright (C) 2004-6 bulia byak, buliabyak@...859... and josh andler, scislac@...1050...> The parent directory also contains a COPYING file with the GPL, my best guess is thus that that's the license of the tutorial, but I would like a confirmation. Hi, The trick, of course, is having volunteers to create the builds. Often I have considered halting the win32 builds. :-) There are some almost nightly binreloc-enabled Linux builds here: http://inkscape.modevia.com/btool/?C=M;O=D But since they are purely for testing, they do not provide the required library dependencies. People can download their own. How to interactively replace control widgets in toolbars?

Hi all, I'd like to implement a toolbar which is comprised of various subtools. These subtools are represented by icons in the left half of the toolbar. Depending on the currently active subtool I want to display certain control widgets in the right half. How can I interactively replace these control widgets when the user switches subtools? Another question: While certainly there should be at most one subtool active at each time, there are situations when I want none of them to be active. If I understand correctly, EgeSelectOneAction is not the right thing for my purpose because it always requires exactly one option to be active. Is there another kind of action which I can use or do I need to implement my own? Hello, The attached patch adds a link for an OS X package for 0.46. Could someone please apply this patch to inkscape_web, or enable svn write access for me? I have write access to the regular source tree, but when I tried to check in under inkscape_web I got "authorization failed." Thanks! , John
