Hello all, For all who use LaTeX, please read the text below from the Release Notes 0.48. Or read http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/images/SVG_in_LaTeX.pdf . (the new feature will be available in development test builds from this evening on) ===New LaTeX export for PDF/EPS/PS=== Similar to GNUPlot's `epslatex' output terminal, Inkscape can now export graphics to PDF with an accompanying LaTeX file that overlays the text over the PDF when inputted in LaTeX. The image's text is typeset by LaTeX, so for example mathematical expressions are rendered correctly, and all text will be in the font and style of the LaTeX document (even when changing the document's font afterwards). ''(the following description assumes export to PDF, but will work the same for EPS and PS)'' Two files will be created: a PDF file containing all graphics, without text; and a LaTeX file with the same name, containing all text, and code to include the PDF and overlay the text. To include the exported image in LaTeX, one writes \begin{figure} \centering \def\svgwidth{\columnwidth} % sets the image width, this is optional \input{image.tex} \end{figure} A more thorough description of how to use the new feature (and automate the exporting/inclusion of the image in LaTeX) is given in this PDF: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/images/SVG_in_LaTeX.pdf ====From the GUI==== When exporting to PDF/EPS/PS from Inkscape's GUI, the usual dialog pops up after selecting to which PDF/EPS/PS file to export to. In this dialog, you can find the PDF/EPS/PS+LaTeX option. ====Command line option==== When exporting to PDF/EPS/PS from the command line, adding --export-latex will turn the LaTeX export on. move objects to hidden layers

Hello, in all of my inkscape versions it is not possible to copy an object to a hidden layer. To me that is a littlebit annoying, as when I shunt objects between layers in other vector drawing progs, I'm used to switch on the source layer and hide the target layer - so I've got control which objects are done already. Is there a deeper meaning in this behaviour - or can anybody give me another strategy for shunting objects between layers - or shall I file it as a bug? Yours, Wolf

Hi, Stephan has attached a patch for the bug "Clones from blur elements are not visible in exported PDF" (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/376987). I've tested it successfully on Ubuntu 9.10. Could someone approve its code before we commit it? Thanks! -- Nicolas

Converting rpm packages to tgz to install Inkscape

On http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Installing_Inkscape#Slackware_Linux "I used the precompiled rpm provided by Inkscape for the 0.44 release as my gcc wouldn't compile it. All you need to then do is run rpm2tgz at the command line on the package, eg " rpm2tgz inkscape-0.44-0.i686.rpm" and then install with "installpkg inkscape-0.44-0.i686.tgz"." I'm not yet a *NIX developer, but sense that there may be a more generic set of instructions hidden in this specific tip. Would it be correct to say, 'RPM packages can be used to install Inkscape from a GNU zipped tar ball (.tgz) by using the appropriate converter utility, rpm2tgz, after retrieving the rpm. Thus, "rpm2tgz inkscape-0.44-0.i686.rpm" produces inkscape-0.44-0.i686.tgz, which can be installed with "installpkg inkscape-0.44-0.i686.tgz".' The title of the section, I imagine, could then be something like, "Converting an RPM package for installation as a GNU zipped tar ball (.tgz)".

Commandline on Windows

Hi all, In the FAQ I read: "Note that on Windows you must provide full paths for all files: inkscape -e c:\mydir\file.png c:\mydir\file.svg Without the c:\mydir\ it won't work." Why is this so? Perhaps someone can point me in the direction of solving this? Thanks, Johan

Hello. I'm a member of the April association (http://april.org), a French advocacy group for Free Software. We are building a booklet, presenting 25 must-have free softwares. Inkscape has been selected as vector graphics editor. We are now requesting authorisation to the project teams to use their logos in the booklet, as well as specific rules you might want us to apply when using it. I checked on your website, but couldn't find anything related to this specific subject. Hi, The next Libre Graphics Meeting [1] is planned for late May in Brussels. For last couple of years there have been very few developers present at the conference. Given current amount of European contributors to the project it would be great to see more Inkscape related activity at the conference again. So please think about visiting it ;-) There was a lite academic bias last year, so maybe our past and present Lyon Polytechnique students would like to attend?
