I received no replies regarding this issue the first time I posted this so I’m trying again. I followed the directions in /inkscape-0.92.3/packaging/macosx/README.txt The last step "LIBPREFIX="$MP_PREFIX" ./osx-build.sh a c b -j 5 i p -s d” returned the following error messages at the end of the output Configure failed Package requirements (cairomm-1.0 >= 1.9.8 glibmm-2.4 >= 2.28 giomm-2.4 sigc++-2.0 >= 2.0.12 ) were not met: No package 'cairomm-1.0' found No package 'glibmm-2.4' found No package 'giomm-2.4' found No package 'sigc++-2.0’ found I captured all of the output to a file if it would help for me to post it somewhere. How do I fix this?

Font attributes not available in Inkscape

Hi Often after designing a font with FontForge the attributes (Italic, Bold or others) are available in LibreOffice or Scribus but not in Inkscape (even in latest Trunk releases). And sometimes it happens to commercial fonts too. Is that a naming question ? And what is absolutely needed to make the attributes available in Inkscape ? Thanks in advance, ivan

Default Palette

Dear devs, I've had some complaints that Inkscape's default palette isn't that welcoming to new users. It's too harsh and varied. A number of users have asked me personally why we don't use the Tango palette as our default palette and move Inkscape default to a new name. I don't actually know which palette would be the best to have as the default. Would a poll be a useful way to find out? To aid, I've committed a soc2gpl script so we can have a look at LibreOffice palettes for comparison. Best Regards, Martin Owens

Python scripting support (work in progress)

Hello, I've been playing around with adding Python support to Inkscape for some time. In contrast to the current extension system that runs the interpreter externally, this allows to use Inkscape functionality via Python code. Progress has been slow, since I am new to mostly anything necessary to implement it (C++, CMake, GTK, git, even Python). I decided to do the implementation manually (without SWIG, Boost.Python, etc.) since there's already enough new stuff for me to deal with. At the current state, there is not much to show, but some of the infrastructure is in place: * Inkscape-integrated Python console with basic command history and limited coloring (different colors for log messages, input, output and errors) * A pane to select Python files and run them * A rudimentary set of bindings: * Arbitrary Inkscape verbs can be run * Files can be opened * Files can be saved. Selecting the output file type on basis of a MIME type, i.e., export to other file types than .svg is supported, but the user interaction dialog for the export settings pops up. * PNG export * Listing and activating desktops (open files) * Running Python scripts from the command line is possible, although only in non-GUI mode for now. Since the basics are working I decided it would be a good point to share the code and check if you think this is a direction worth pursuing. Especially, since some design decisions that should be discussed beforehand are ahead. Please let me know how to submit the code. Would you like a patch against current master or should I create a Gitlab account? wiesi

Dear Developers, Translators and affable Users of Inkscape, The Inkscape website at inkscape.org will be down for upgrades soon. This is dependent on when bryce is available for DNS change over. The process involves moving the website to the new CentOS 7.6 server from OSUOSL which is now setup, you can reach this new server by manually setting your /etc/hosts for inkscape.org to 140.211.9.79 and visiting https://inkscape.org Everyone is invited to visit the new site, it looks exactly like the old one. To see if it's still working correctly. It now uses python3 and django 1.11, so there's quite an upgrade planned for all the tech. But so far it's holding steady. Help Needed: Memory/address problems

Dear Devs, In a clean up on gradient/sp-stop code[1] I've gotten it all working, but for the style-test program itself which crashes with a stack guard error "stack smashing error". The problem only appears if you compile with `-fstack-protector` which is default ON for Ubuntu, but is not for windows and other OSes. I attempted to use Valgrind (with --tool=exp-sgcheck) but that crashed too. Possibly because of the stack-protector which I can't seem to turn off. I wanted to also try `-fsanitize=address` to winkle out the problem, but I have no idea where to add CFLAGS in CMake/ninja. So without being able to try other build options, I'm very lost. Hi, I'd like to add this scheme to the wiki: http://www.thomas-holder.de/tmp/inkscape-frames-of-reference.svg However, uploading SVG is not permitted, I'm getting this error: "Upload warning: .svg is not a permitted file type. Permitted file types are png, gif, jpg, jpeg." I've found two wiki pages which address coordinate systems: - http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/CoordinateSystems Old (2005), but mostly correct - http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/UI_and_Document_coordinates This one is linked from the Main page but was deleted!? "Perspective path" LPE

Hi, Does anyone know how the "Perspective path" LPE is supposed to work? Is it functional? I already asked Jabier, but he also doesn't know. I'm asking because it uses hard coded desktop coordinates that I would fix if I knew how to test it. This LPE is in the LPE_ENABLE_TEST_EFFECTS section. Location path for an imported figure

Dear All, I am finding `Inkscape` a really good tool for importing `PDF` or `EPS` scientific plots into a blank page, and then place arrows on top of the graphs, text, make scientific drawings assemble them in the desired location and then save as a unique PDF page that can then be included as a unique `figure` in a `latex` document. Let's imagine an inkscape project that has assembled 10 plots, imported from these folders: /path1/plot_1.pdf /path2/plot_2.pdf ... /path10/plot_10.pdf We already know that in /path1/ there is also the python, gnuplot, etc source code that produces the PDF plot, for instance: /path1/plot_1.py /path2/plot_2.gnu etc Most of the times I need to continue working over the original PDF plots that I once imported into a inkscape project I made back in time. For example, change the scale and the title of the plots, and so on. In other words, I need to go to the original source code (gnuplot, python, etc) that produces those plots that have been assembled in the inkscape project. In these situations, while having the nice inkscape project in the screen with all the plots 1 to 10, it is quite hard to remember where is the location of the original PDF plot. As far as I am concerned, there is no option in the inkscape interface that allows you to know which is the original location path of the PDF plot that was once imported into the inkscape project. The closest solution I could find is the following: every time I import a new PDF of EPS, I right click and and create a link which is basically a copy-paste of the location path of the figure. This solution is quite tedious and most of the times one forgets to create the link. Once the image is imported, the next natural step is to resize it and locate in the desired place, and it is very easy to forget to create the link. For instance, if this multi PDF plots assemble project was made in Latex, the location path of all the plots would be perfectly identified, i.e. in the `\includegraphics` line. I was wondering if it is possible to check an option in the importing process that would allow to automatically write the location path of the figure somewhere. Or any other strategy that would automatically write the location path every time a plot is imported. Would this be difficult to implement ? Thanks a lot for all your help, All the best, David

Mr. Grady is still on the offensive, and is getting defensive too. He says: "Please folks, I don't care who someone is. If someone is engaging in discussions, especially helping a new Inkscape user learn and your only contribution is to troll the person offering the help, expect to at least have the posts deleted. If that's kind of your modus operandii around here, then you'll eventually get kicked." Of course, still denying his role in the issue. I'm still blocked, and see nothing but excuses from Mr. Grady, still treating our Inkscape feed like his personal property. Solutions? Thanks for the attention to this matter. -C

imho, they should not be in charge of moderating the Inkscape's g+ feed. The name of this moderator is Grady Broyles. They have: 1. Falsely asserted that pngs are lossy. (not good for the project) 2. Falsely asserted that pngs are locked at 96dpi (just plain wrong, esp for those wanting to print their pngs) 3. Abused their moderator status by blocking arguments proving his statements incorrect. 4. Engaged in personal attacks. imho, this person is not fit to moderate the Inkscape G+ feed. Regressions Tracker

Dear developers, One of the discussions we had in Kiel was the potential to host a tracker to document some of the regressions that we have on GitLab. While we're keeping the inkscape issues tracker closed for now, I've created a project to hold the regressions for 1.0. Hi all, The Vectors team, after experimenting with a number of different online discussion tools, has selected Rocket.Chat as the best option for their team's discussions. Thanks to hard work by new Inkscaper Manuel Recena, this is up and running in Inkscape's official hosting, and is just about ready for use. While this is specifically set up at the request of the Vectors team, other teams are welcome to use it too if they wish. The #inkscape and #inkscape-devel freenode IRC channels will continue to be our primary discussion channels, no changes are planned for that. There are a few decisions that still need to be made on how Rocket.Chat is configured and used. We figured these questions deserve broader discussion, so are bringing them here. Cusp corner cap even with rounded corners active (stroke)

Jabier asked me to share this file via mailing list. The shape in it has a stroke with round caps. Only one corner looks as if it has another type of cap. The cap type depends upon the size of the path. When you make it larger, it starts to look as expected. In Firefox it looks as expected at any size. (Hackfest bug reported by Robert who is visiting us and uses Inkscape for teaching students about building technology) Maren

Inkscape source license clarification

Dear Dmitry, ./src/main-cmdlinexact.cpp and ./src/main-cmdlinexact.h are licensed as GPL-v2.x-only. This is a problem because inkscape has implicitly switched to GPLv3 by including widget code from GIMP. Is it okay to relicense your code to "GPLv2 or any later version"? Like I would like to know point of contact for such queries on customizing or is it open for hundreds of developers and anyone would offer the quote and I chose the best one? Is there a team who manages and collect the status? Also please give me any point of contact of the board of developers. I am also aware of the inkscape license and we just want a simplified version of inkscape to be added to our software as a plugin. We are looking to modify the content with SunTech's logo and preferences. We want to introduce inkscape to primary schools from level1 to high school in different stages so that students develop their creativity as they move to higher classes. Kielius bus line scam

Dispite signs everywhere touting 6,50 fare, the driver of the Kielius bus would not let me on for less than 21,00. Moreover, trying to book on the website wanted 15,80 and there is very little English on the site. Was I scammed? I certainly feel scammed. Thanks. -C

Filming and Social Media at Kiel Hackfest

My understand is that CR will be filming at the Hackfest. I'm happy to upload the videos if you run into any issues, but you should have what you need to upload them directly now. It would be great to keep people updated via social media. improve organization of Extensions menu

Hi Friends, As part of my project to get all the known external extensions listed in one place, and trying to organize them (using the current Extensions menu as a starting place) I've realized that how the Extensions menu is organized might need some improvement. I've also discussed it privately with a couple of other users. So I thought I'd bring up the subject with developers. For example. 1 -- Should Stylesheet be a submenu under Web? 2 -- Should Typography be a submenu under Text? Currently, many extension makers seem to be making their own submenus for their extensions. For people who use a lot of external extensions, I wonder if their menus are harder to use. If we had the menu already organized, it might inspire extension makers to put their extensions into the pre-existing submenus, rather than make their own. 3 -- Should there be a Gcode submenu under Export? (more about Export submenu below) In my list, I've created a separate Gcode category. There are lots of external extensions which produce gcode (approx 20). I don't know where they would show up in the Extensions menu, yet (since I just now learned how to find out). But as I said, it might help keep the menu clean, to have submenus ready for the external extensions, even if there might not be any built-in extensions for some submenus. 4 -- Should the current Gcodetools submenu appear within this proposed Gcode submenu? 5 -- To accomodate external extensions, both Render and Export need to be divided into several submenus. 6 -- I've also created a new category (for my list) Animation/Presentation (currently 10 or 12 of them). It seems like the existing JessyInk submenu should go under there (assuming we were to agree on adding such a submenu). 7 -- There are 3 external extensions which comprise a Boolean category. But shouldn't Boolean be under the existing Modify Path submenu? 8 -- And once I get all the external ones organized, I guess other instances of potentially improved organization might come to light. If anyone else has any observations about improving the organization of the Extensions menu, please feel free to make comments :-) Yes, I realize a lot of developers are getting ready to go to Hackfest. But I wanted to mention this, in case it might come up. Otherwise, it can still be discussed, now or later. Thank you very much, brynn

Love the symbolic icons with adjustable colour! - Here's how to make it better. ; )

I really love this new feature, and think that it's going to go over great with the community. There is one bug: When "reload icons" button is pressed, the "Use Symbolic Icons" checkbox disappears when inkscape reloads, and requires switching to/from another preference section to restore that box. Also, I recommend using the HSV colour picker as the default colour picker rather than RGB, because it's much easier to make adjustments to just the lightness of the icon without affecting the colour. I think we could do the user an additional favour of defaulting to a dark grey HSV(0,0,28) as the default for light themes, and light grey HSV(0,0,76) as default value for dark themes. Thanks again to all who have made this possible. Very very cool, and helps to modernise the look of Inkscape substantially. -C

Dear Devs, I was recently at DevConf Boston, networking and hob-nobbing with the RedHat crowd that we got to know at the hackfest earlier this year. One of the interesting things I noticed was how projects are standardising their stickers on a hexagonal fixed size design to encourage people to stick each of the project's stickers together into a grid on their computer lids. http://hexb.in/ Food for thought if we decide to make user grade sticker packs for events. Location path for an imported figure

Dear All, I am finding `Inkscape` a really good tool for importing `PDF` or `EPS` scientific plots into a blank page, and then place arrows on top of the graphs, text, make scientific drawings assemble them in the desired location and then save as a unique PDF page that can then be included as a unique `figure` in a `latex` document. Let's imagine an inkscape project that has assembled 10 plots, imported from these folders: /path1/plot_1.pdf /path2/plot_2.pdf ... /path10/plot_10.pdf We already know that in /path1/ there is also the python, gnuplot, etc source code that produces the PDF plot, for instance: /path1/plot_1.py /path2/plot_2.gnu etc Most of the times I need to continue working over the original PDF plots that I once imported into a inkscape project I made back in time. For example, change the scale and the title of the plots, and so on. In other words, I need to go to the original source code (gnuplot, python, etc) that produces those plots that have been assembled in the inkscape project. In these situations, while having the nice inkscape project in the screen with all the plots 1 to 10, it is quite hard to remember where is the location of the original PDF plot. As far as I am concerned, there is no option in the inkscape interface that allows you to know which is the original location path of the PDF plot that was once imported into the inkscape project. The closest solution I could find is the following: every time I import a new PDF of EPS, I right click and and create a link which is basically a copy-paste of the location path of the figure. This solution is quite tedious and most of the times one forgets to create the link. Once the image is imported, the next natural step is to resize it and locate in the desired place, and it is very easy to forget to create the link. For instance, if this multi PDF plots assemble project was made in Latex, the location path of all the plots would be perfectly identified, i.e. in the `\includegraphics` line. I was wondering if it is possible to check an option in the importing process that would allow to automatically write the location path of the figure somewhere. Or any other strategy that would automatically write the location path every time a plot is imported. Would this be difficult to implement ? Thanks a lot for all your help, All the best, David

XDG basedir specification

Hi all, Freedesktop has a few specifications and standards for interoperability of stuff ( https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/ ) , and I wanted to ask in particular about the base dir specification : "How desktops should locate files, such as config files or application data files." ( https://specifications.freedesktop.org/basedir-spec/latest/ but in particular https://specifications.freedesktop.org/basedir-spec/latest/ar01s03.html ) It basically set rules as to where users should lookup stuff. Currently on unix we put everything userspace in .config/inkscape (|$XDG_CONFIG_HOME|), even when some of it would more adequately be described as data (assets) and, according to the spec, be put in a share/ directory such as .local/share (|$XDG_DATA_HOME|) which is already the case for systemwide assets (assets are in /usr/(local/)share/, not in /etc/xdg/). So, the first question is the following : Do we want (1) to follow the XDG dir spec and keep themes/, ui/, keys/, icons/ and preferences (which can be described as user-specific things to customize the program behavior or appearance) in |$XDG_CONFIG_HOME| but put assets (symbols, templates, palettes, extensions) in |$XDG_DATA_HOME| ? or (2) keep everything in .config because it might be less confusing or simpler to explain NB: On windows, it's the same place (%appdata%) but we can think about moving stuff to %localappdata%, wherever it is. Also (maybe a more minor point, but what prompted me to lookup the spec in the first place) the "logical" place to put autosaves (not to be mixed up with crash saves) would be (in my opinion) |$XDG_CACHE_HOME| ("Where user-specific non-essential data should be written") but on windows that defaults to the absurd ~\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ so I was thinking of using |$XDG_DATA_HOME |but if everything stays in .config (option 2) I'll put that there. -- Mc

Friends of Inkscape - A program for individuals and small businesses who want to promote Inkscape

There has been an increase in people within the project wanting to give back to Inkscape in the form of donating a percentage of their earnings from Inkscape courses, tutorials, artwork sales, etc. It's my opinion that we should support this, however like any other public sponsorship of Inkscape, I believe donations of this sort should have some rules to ensure there is no conflict of interest. Here is a brief summary of the sponsorship rights and responsibilities which I think should take effect if the Inkscape Project will be helping with promotion of sales where a percentage is going to the project: 1. Neutrality: The Inkscape project will not play favourites amongst internal and external sponsors who join as Friends of Inkscape. 2. Transparency: In the case of promotional releases (Facebook, Twitter, G+ etc.), the Inkscape project will make clear the rules and guidelines of using the Inkscape Project's namesake for promotion, keep a tally of funds donated by the sponsor on our website. 3. Non-endorsement policy: Verbiage for press releases should make it clear that the Inkscape Project does not necesarilly endorse the content or views of the sponsor, and the sponsorship is to be treated purely as a fund-raising exercise to benefit the project. Moreover that the sponsor is solely responsible for delivering the product. 4. Quality - The Inkscape project should, before accepting any co-sponsorship agreement, ensure that the products being offered or sold is of sufficient quality, and provide real value to the Inkscape community (basically that the items are worth buying, and not just a scheme to make as much profit as possible without offering sufficient value to the buyers). 5. Commitment - The sponsor should be able to follow up on what they are selling and maintain a good customer satisfaction rating on their chosen commercial platform. The Inkscape Project should take into account the history, ratings, and reviews for products sold by the sponsor to protect Inkscape users. 6. Ongoing - If the project determines at any time that the sponsor is not keeping up with their promised delivery of goods, or the quality or content of the products being sold is not adequate, the project reserves the right to cancel at any time, and for any reason the sponsorship agreement. 7. For-Profit Only - These terms only apply to sponsors who wish the Inkscape Project to advertise these co-sponsorship deals. For example an Inkscape press release could read: "Help raise money for Inkscape, while learning from the professionals! XXXX is generously donating 50% from this professional tutorial course to fund development of Inkscape! Thanks XXXX!) These terms do not apply to folks who just want to donate without any press releases from the Inkscape Project. 8. Honesty - Obviously, we should ensure that sponsors follow up on the promise to donate the stated funds to the Inkscape Project. We can encourage this with a running-total press release, for example: "Donations from XXXX's Inkscape course just passed the £10,000.00 mark! Our next hackfest is fully funded!" etc. 9. Ending a sponsorship - When the sponsor wishes to end the sponsorship deal, it should be made clear that funds are no longer going to the Inkscape Project. This can be done with a thank you press release, like this: XXXX has raised a total of £150,000.00 for Inkscape's development. On behalf of the Inkscape Project, we'd like to thank XXXX for this generous donation and wish them good luck on future projects. Any thoughts are welcome. :) Thanks for your attention! -C

Hi there, Hackfest Attendees, these are the results of our little survey: - Almost everyone voted to have the Hackfest dinner close by, at TraumGmbh. I reserved a table for Sunday Sept. 9th, 6:30 pm. They serve vegetarian, German/Austrian, Italian, other international cuisine. As it's in the morning, probably there won't be many others who would have time then, though. As for the questions that were submitted: - What you need to bring: - voltage-compatible electronics with an adapter for German electricity sockets - if your device cannot use VGA or HDMI cables for feeding the projector, you will need to bring an adapter for one of those, too - enough cash (in Euro) to pay for your lunch (~7-10 €/day) and for the museum visit (~ 10 €), bus/ferry fares (?), voluntary Kitz barbecue payment (10 €) and any souvenirs etc. you need to buy. Many of the smaller shops in Germany do not accept cards, and many have a minimum amount for paying with a credit card! - I think this could be a fun: If you still have space left in your baggage you could bring a favourite or typical snack (I know I'm the one who is tasked with this, but it might still be fun to see what you bring) - clothes: Up to now, we were very lucky with Kielux, as it has always been good weather with > 15°C and sunshine, so we never needed rain coats, just T-Shirt/pullover/a thin jacket. But one never knows here! Please take something windproof and watertight with you, and be prepared for temperatures between 10° in the evenings and up to 20° Celsius during the day. We often have a strong wind here! - yourself :) - You don't need to bring mugs - the Kitz has enough of them for everyone of us (I just need to remember to ask for the kitchen to be left unlocked, so we can actually get to them). - Water bottles (and other beverages) will be available. The Kitz / Kielux is going to sponsor them for the Hackfest. We may have to empty some fizzy water before we can use one of the bottles to fill the coffee machine with tap water, though ;-) Other suitable containers may be available in the kitchen - I don't really know what they have there, though. - Halal food is generally not available in non-specialized restaurants in Germany :-/ Vegetarian is widely available. In Kiel, there is a large Arab/Turkish community, which is why there are a couple of specialized shops and supermarkets, especially in the Gaarden quarter (close to the central station, just across the Hörnbrücke on the other side of the Förde). One large Arab supermarket is in walking distance to the Kitz (Sultan-Markt in Eckernförder Straße). The Döner/Turkish fastfood 'restaurants' close to Kitz might sell halal food, but I'm not sure. Let me know if you'd like me to get something specific in advance (from Sultan-Markt, then). - We have two entries that offer 3 seats in a car - one of them without a name (a couple of you haven't entered their name, but were identifiable through what they wrote ;-) - except for this one). Does anyone own up to that car/entry (the other one is Jürgen)? @doctormo and anyone else who comes by airplane: please remember to book the Kielius bus, too, to get from Hamburg to Kiel (and back). Hello, I am trying to compile the 0.92.3 release from source on my Mac, but I’m not really sure how to continue when I see errors. The wiki page is way out of date, and the Readme doesn’t have much detail. Could anyone assist me with compiling from source? My personal FOSS swag manifesto

Okay, so in the wake of our push to get some Inkscape swag going for the project, I've been pushed from multiple angles to start doing some of this myself. My reasons for considering this part-time, then move to full time if it's successful are as follows: 1. *Ongoing Work* - Since I'm considering new options for work, I want to do something where my day to day work can benefit FOSS projects, and I have all the necessary skills to do this - I'm basically a one-stop shop for graphics and media of any kind, so why not actually BE a shop for FOSS swag? 2. *More Benefit to Projects* - Many of the options available for free online shops fall short in that they present too high a cost for single orders with not enough percentage going towards the project. Becoming the supply chain allows me to save cost on bulk orders and maximise profits to get the most project benefits out of the sales. 3. *Quality Control -* I can ensure the quality of the products produced, because I can select which companies I buy from, vetting for quality. It's shocking how many companies produce total crap (even popular ones, like spreadshirt). Quality and customer satisfaction matter a lot to me. Especially when representing various FOSS projects, the quality of the materials will speak to quality of what's being represented, and all too often I see stickers printed off of home printers using graphics that were more or less tossed together from online clipart. The reason for this is usually that nothing else was available. I want to be a solution to this problem. 4. *Supporting a FOSS-driven Industry* - I really, really don't want to have to go back to using closed source graphics applications. :) And that's probably what will happen if I don't start something myself. I want to continue to be able to use Inkscape, and GIMP, and Krita, etc. in my production work so I can continue to help with bug reports, and UX suggestions. It's a big part of my job satisfaction to be able to help in this way. 5. *Supporting FOSS designers* - I eventually want to be able to employ other designers who use FOSS to build up the industry use of FOSS. We've got a long way to go to catch up, and the more designers using FOSS, the greater our say in what becomes standard for the industry. It's my experience that FOSS benefits both artists and companies that hire design work, as the overhead cost for creating and using FOSS graphic assets is zero, and thus can be used perpetually at no cost to either party. 6. *Brain Tickles -* It tickles something in my mind to think of people using and handing out stickers for FOSS projects. I've designed lots of products over the last 10 years, and I've seen people all around London using them. It's a great feeling, but lacks the satisfaction of seeing people enjoying FOSS and spreading the joy to others, and I find just showing someone tricks in Inkscape gives me a much more lasting thrill. So why not have both? Yes, I want to have my cake and eat it too, and share it as well! So these are my goals, but I do want to hear your opinions on it too. Hi Friends, I recently clicked the thumb up/down icon in gitlab merge request, responding to a mailing list message, which asked for a simple vote. And suddenly email is pouring in! I finally found how to unsubscribe, but the checkbox for it is in a separate panel on the right side of the page, which scrolls separately from the main window. Since the checkbox is below the first page, and the panel scrolls separately, and the panel does not even have a scrollbar, it was hard to find. (had to zoom out) Anyway, I've searched through all the personal settings I can find, without success. Is there some way not to subscribe to something by simply voting, and I just didn't find it? If there's no way to change my personal settings, I wanted to ask if it would be possible to globally disable subscribing to the thing (merge request, issue, whatever) by simply voting. inkscape-trunk broken, icons missing, causing inkscape to crash on loading projects.

It just crashes. Is there some reason the icon stuff was merged in a half-finished state with trunk? It's broken everything, even if you open Inkscape without loading a project, half the icons are now missing, and it's unusable. Having to revert to old Inkscape for the time being, which is an uber pain. Also wanted to do some bug reporting this weekend, but am having to put that off too. Thanks for any advice. -C

Symbolic icons

Hi all, the branch to allow put symbolic icons trought inkscape preferences is merged on trunk. We have currently 2 iconset "hicolor" and "Tango" also "hicolor" has a symbolic icon set inside. This symbolic icons are cool but some people dislike use symolic icons so my question is: ¿Anyone is interested in make a new theme recoloring the symbolic icon set? Maybe can be a multi, duo or tri tone recolor. Please recolor it in text editor with a inkscape instance to check the style properties fit you color. Also we can do 2 sets one focus in dark theme and other in clear one. I think we can use a external defs svg file to handle the colors, so it can be forked editing one file. We can also make a system wide same theme from "hicolor system icons"

Hi Everyone, I was looking into eps -> svg conversion and inkscape does an almost perfect job if it wasn't that it trash layers information and group information. I started to dig into the code to figure out if it was something i could look into and try to improve, i found so far this folder that seems to handle the relevant code: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/tree/master/src/extension/internal/pdf… Is there anyone able to give me a quick input to know if that is the correct code to look at, or if not point me to the right code files? Also does anyone have information of why this feature is currently not supported, if is a matter of use case missing, if just no one built it or if is more about some technical problem that has been already discussed and discarded? To be honest i remember in the past opening some pdf with inkscapes and having multiple ungrouping operations to do before hitting the single objects, but as of now, if i create an eps with illustrators with group or layers and then i import it in inkscape, i get a flat list of objects. So maybe i just remember wrong. I m not by any mean a c++ expert, i have svg and pdf knowledge and some c++ coding, but since i need this feature i would like at least to give it a shot. Andrea

Hi everyone! After a few years using Inkscape I finally decided to get involved with their development. I think that Inkscape it's the best alternative to Adobe Illustrator, but I feel like is needed a big upgrade, fundamentally on their interface that looks like very old and caotic. Unfortunately, I'm a web developer, so I don't know how to code in C++ but I can develop the UI/UX design. Is there someone hightly motivated to develop with me a nice update for 2019? Marién

Inkscape Website: Attack and Spam

Dear developers, I've just now been alerted to some activity on our webserver py1. Email bounces from users started arriving to me (the webmaster) and I quickly tried to gather information about what kind of event we had. One of the bounces contained headers showing the emails were coming from our server. I have thus shut down postfix on py1 as a precaution, the website will be unable to send email for the time being. I've been digging through the logs to find out what kind of issue we have: * A service ticket has been created for OSUOSL to investigate * None of the email addresses appear in our user accounts list, so our database is unlikely to have been compromised. * There's been an sshd attack against the server today from 3:12am to 18:23pm but no actual signs of a break in. * Email appear at 18:53, unknown quantity (more than 40), logs do not report quantity at this time. So it might be something pretending to be py1 to osuosl's smtp server. I'll reply here when I know more, although I probably won't hear back from osuosl until tomorrow. Best regards, Martin Owens

Hi fellow inkscapers, I was amazed to read that inkscape already has Mesh Gradients (since version 0.92) just like Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator got this exact same feature in the version 8 (released in 1998). 20 years ago. But it seems that Mesh Gradients will be removed from the SVG 2.0 specification. My question is WHY? That made me really sad and wondering: isn't there anything we can do to prevent that from happening? Can we make a petition or talk to Mozilla/Chrome/Opera/Vivaldi browser so they can implement this and this feature, as soon as it gets traction, to be kept in the 2.0 spec of SVG technology? Ideas anyone? Is this too unrealistic or we can do something about it? I remember google chrome almost removed SMIL feature from Google Chrome but then the feature got traction and started being used more and more... so they kept it.

Website Testing (upgrades)

Dear Devlopers and Users, The Inkscape Website is going through some upgrades, from python 2.7 to python 3.5 and from django 1.8 to django 1.11. There's a pile of other upgrades since I rebuilt the dependencies from scratch, but these are the main ones. I've deployed the new version to http://inkscape.sandcats.io:8091/en/ and I encourage people to hit the website and test functionality. Try different things and feel free to report issues to the inkscape-webgitlab issues tracker if you can (to keep the mailing list clear) but if you can't issues track, then fallback to emailing here. When ready, we'll hopefully be deploying this new version to a new server too, so it's all moving hopefully forwards. Thanks for your help everyone. Kiel Hackfest

Hi Inkscaper's, We'll be holding a hackfest in Kiel, Germany in September (Sun, 2018- 09-09 through Thu, 2018-09-13). All members of the Inkscape community are encouraged to attend.[1] We already have 13 people signed up! If you are interested in attending, please add your name to the Attendees web page.[2] We're handling financial support a bit different this time. The board has decided to reimburse travel expenses up to $2000 per person with no specific requirement on number of commits and length of community participation. However, the board will need to include your name in a vote so you will need to sign up before the meeting. Also, SFC travel policy requires you to book airline/train tickets at least two weeks in advance.[3] Looking forward to seeing you there! Hi everyone! I'm very active this weekend. Sorry about it! Mihaela: Gitlab is great for collaborate with code but it's not for graphic design process. I have find and interesting app that can help us, it has an unlimited free plan. We can share mockups and leave feedback. It has 3 differents role types and you can see files like a guest. Transform document create a transform to root layers

Hi all. When we add a transform to a document the root layers become transformed. I realy dont know why this transforms, is a unnecesary feature (basicaly the transform invert the document transform in the Y axis) Sometimes a user want one direction and sometimes other, usualy is ignored because reposition of draw. So in my point of view is better remove this "hidden" transform. To put one place I find today this boring thing: * I do a mockup for a web * Copy a icon in it to a new doc * Resize document to s ex: 32x32px. * Move the icon to the center * Work on it big time * Going to publish but problems because your container layer has a transform ex: in Y=200.22414234 * Preview the file in browser. contours are not aligned to pixel even with PixelSnap extension * After sometimes maybe have look and find the way: 1.- remove layer transform 2.- move the nodes to final position with node tool (cross fingers is not a group, if is a group, deep ungroop and move all nodes (loose group nestings)) 3.- apply pixelsnap or rounder. Any other has the same problem? Whats the comunity opinion to remove this transform? Regards, Jabier.

Missing icons seen on building inkscape from source using Eclipse Oxygen1 IDE

I have built inkscape using latest stable inkscape source 0.92.3.tar.gz I am using CMake 3.11.4 to generate the project files for Eclipse, on Lubuntu 16.04 (stable version).Subsequent to generating the project files, i am able to succesfully invoke the solution in Eclipse Oxygen1 CDT . Now i am building the project , it gets built. People, Recently I had quite a bit of help with fixing problems in drawings that came via DWG -> PDF: https://sourceforge.net/p/inkscape/mailman/inkscape-user/?viewmonth=201806&… I see there have been many posts over the years about developing a CAD version of Inkscape - with suggested changes to the code for v1.2, that should be more easily done? ie A separated backend "engine" with appropriate "frontend"? I have downloaded the inkscape source code 0.92.3.tar.bz. Have been able to compile and build it from source both on Linux as well as Windows environment. Now i am having trouble in choosing an IDE for inkscape development, need guidance how to invoke this source code in an IDE environment. Dear all, I've removed twitter login from inkscape.org as it's started to fail. this is a combination of tightening API use from social media companies and our use of an out-dates django social auth package. September Hackfest in Kiel, Germany

Hi Developers and Community Members, we are currently planning to have an Inkscape hackfest in Kiel, in Northern Germany. It was suggested it could take place this year's autumn/fall already, and I was able to reserve a conference room in a startup center close to the city's university for early September, from Sun, 2018-09-09 until Thu, 2018-09-13. This will be during the 'Digitale Woche Kiel', a city-wide event week that aims to introduce people to IT and technology, and just before the 'Kieler Open Source und Linux Tage', a local conference with workshops, talks and an exhibition about Linux and Open Source software. The Inkscape Board has not voted on funding of the event yet.
