We're having the Inkscape meeting here at LGM I've put together a page on the website for the next release: http://inkscape.org/en/develop/next-release/ I've included some details as well as some firm dates for the next release which I want us to hit. Bryce hasn't signed up to a fixed schedule yet, but it's time to get this nailed down and I think we're ready to get a release out now, let alone in a few months. Preference Observer in Init

Hi devs, A bit of bother with a new DesktopPrefObserver to watch for a new settings modification. The diff is available here: https://code.launchpad.net/~doctormo/inkscape/image-outline-option/+merge/2… The idea is simply to initalise the observer and specify the option to observe. See failed variable _image_render_observer in desktop.cpp and desktop.h The error comes from the string, it says the string is a `const char [36]` while it needs a const GLib::ustring. Usually I've seen the code be more flexible about const strings at compile time, but this one is being picky. Any ideas? Also a question about the option. Should it be enabled or disabled by default? Would a user expect bitmap images to be exceptions in outline mode or would they expect them to be red squares with an X inside by default? Best Regards, Martin Owens

Inkscape Website: upgraded to 3.0 on staging

Dear developers and website helpers, One of the features needed on the website was 'revision history', to be able to see edits and revert them if needed. The newest version of django-cms[1], version 3.0 is a big step up from the previous 2.3 we were using. I've done all the background work to upgrade our website to this version of django-cms and deployed it to staging for testing. Please take a few minutes to test the staging website and report back any issues. You'll find the editing process to be much easier now and I hope the translation of pages should be easier too since we have diffs from the revision history to calculate changes. There are plugins which have been dropped (twitter) and plugins which have been moved over to other focused projects (text). Version 2.3 is unmaintained.

Inkscape 0.48.5

Hello everyone I would like to push out Inkscape 0.48.5 in the very near future (1-2 weeks at most), since a fair number of bugfixes have accumulated since the last stable release 15 months ago. If you know of any simple bugs that can be fixed by backporting a few lines of code, please tag them with "backport-proposed" in the Launchpad bug tracker, so that I can fix them. I could use some assistance with the following: 1. Writing release notes 2. Making binary packages for Windows and OSX 3. Announcing the release on the website and mailing lists Anyone wants to help? anybody else having "debug" output problems?

Recently DEBUG statements of the type: std::cout << "DEBUG message" <<std::endl; have started acting up. They are not coming out on the console when they are executed, and if they do show up, they all come out in a bunch at the end when the program exits, concatenated to each other (no line breaks). Anybody else seeing that? It seems to have started doing this about the time the Unable to find: DialogGridArrange console message appeared on startup. Hi mathog, +all If you check the TDM MINGW GCC download page for the used gcc compiler http://tdm-gcc.tdragon.net/download you will see that you have to choose between: - GCC base files & C support — SJLJ exceptions.and - GCC base files & C support — DW2 exceptions. If you choose the later one your application depends on ligcc_s_dw2-1.dll as well (and not the libgcc_s_sjlj-1.dll) Inkscape should be compiled using SJLJ stack unwinding. I checked the WIKI about that point if the wiki akes a clear statement which compiler to use. Unfortunatelly I do not see a clear <use this mingw version>. If someone can help clarifying this point.? After what must be a somewhat recent update, I ran btool clean to do a fresh rebuild. Now I cannot compile Inkscape anymore. next release and import pdf via poppler-cairo

If I sumarize the last messages about the poppler-cairo pdf import: - the method is usefull as well as the original native poppler import, - there should not two different menu items for importing the same file format I will then continue and check how to merge the poppler-cairo functionality into the native dialogue in order to import via poppler-cairo. New LPE: Simplify

Hi to all, just developed a new path effect called "simplify". The code is on https://code.launchpad.net/~jabiertxof/inkscape/simplify It simplify a path or group. Think give more control to the standar simplify command (Ctrl+L), because the "fixed" value threshold is modificable, so you can fine tune a lot the simplify. Hi everyone, Thanks for the testing from various people. The bugs and corner casses (rss feeds, editing flow etc) have been fixed and I've pushed the news to the live website. I've also fixed the data on live as translations needed to be 'attached' to their parent document to be true translations in the new mechanism. Showing patches in "About Inkscape"

Would anybody else find it helpful if "about inkscape" showed a list of all the patches that were applied? Not the ones that were committed to trunk, but the ones that are still in play, so to speak. At any given time I have several that have been submitted but have not yet been checked on OSX and then committed. Or they fell through the cracks for some other reason and were never committed, or have not yet been posted. The mixture that are present in any given build may vary, and diffing the patch files to see what is what is not fun. That said, I'm not at all sure how one would coerce bzr and patch to allow this. Presumably there would be a "patches.cpp" containing text something like: ... "this patch", "that patch", ... and each patch would stick a name in there to identify itself. Before commit, just remove the patch specific for "patches.cpp". I suspect patch might get awfully confused by that file. It would probably be easier to apply the patches through a script so that: ./apply_patch.sh for_this.patch would take the file name and automagically edit it into the file, while dropping the "bzr diff" generated path TO "patches.cpp". If you can, I'd like you to help test the functionality over on http://staging.inkscape.org/news/ and find any issues and wrinkles before the new functions are pushed to the live website. Let me know the issues here on the mailing list rather than on the bug tracker so I can keep the bugs for live issues. If you don't see any buttons, it's because you must be logged into the website and you must have the required permissions. Let me know here when you're testing and I'll enable your staging account to have permissions. Email Notifications for Merge Requests

One item on the todo list at LGM was getting better notifications about when merge requests come in. This answer shows how to set this up with mailman: http://askubuntu.com/questions/28757/for-my-project-in-launchpad-how-do-i-s… It requires an administrator for the inkscape project to set the branch reviewer to our mailing list account. First, is this action a good idea? Do we want some emails to our list about merge requests? Second, is this the best technique? It could be done via a cron script and liblaunchpad too. Ellipse to path

Hi to all. I have a problem if I convert a ellipse to path. The path value have a "d" value. It render ok, but if you move a node and come back to original position the "d" property of the path is diferent. It give me some problems accessing to the Geom::CubicBezier of the original path segment, it give me a false cubic segment. New LPE envelope-perspective

Hi. I create a new branch[1] with an LPE to apply envelope or perspective to a object by 4 points. Perspective, is migrated from original extension from Dmitry Platonov/Aaron Spike to C++. Envelope is created by the compose function '2dsb2d' and based in Lattice/lattice2 code Both are managed only by a simple 4 point parameters. Help with "ghost" object after cloning

Hi all, I am trying to fix this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1299461 What I see is some weird behaviour. It seems a "ghost" object is lingering around after creating a clone. What I see is that after cloning a path, every change to that path now triggers /two/ calls to SPPath::set. The second call is on an SPObject with no id set (getId() == null), but it's repr points to the original path (1st path id == 2nd path->getRepr()->attribute("id")). This second object is triggering an LPE calculation before everything is set up correctly, leading to the bug reported. I don't know how this ghost object arises, and I believe it should be killed. At the very least it is triggering duplicate operations; and at worst, it bugs normal operation. thanks for some help, Johan

Hi everyone, Just a suggestion for development of Inkscape, I notice using it that HSV values are in range of [0,256) and I just wanted to suggest that this be corrected. Basically, because "hue" numbers are an angle in the HSV colourspace hexagon/circle, hue should be out of 360 Also, "saturation" and "value" numbers are percentages, so having them out of 256 doesn't really make any sense from a conceptual point of view.
