Hello, I like the way many programs update the save icon with a "grey" one when the document is saved, just like inkscape does it with undo and redo buttons. I wanted to propose a patch to do that, but I got lost in the code base... Could anyone give me some hint ? Where are the undo and redo buttons updated ? Thanks, Romain

Tango Icons

Changes in the selector tool

Hi, Some major changes were planned to the selector tool, see e.g. Bulia's list of changes in. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=1589436&group_id=93438&atid… you'll have to scroll down a bit.... One of them was to have an option to snap either the APPROXIMATE_BBOX or the GEOMETRIC_BBOX, which would enable us to remove the confusing snap nodes / snap bbox option. In the future snapping to the grid/guide/path will always occur when the relevant grid/guide/path is visible, but that's for later. For now I've implemented the two bbox modes hard coded in the constructor of Inkscape::Seltrans in seltrans.cpp (at line 98). You can select the behavior you'd like and experiment with it, but for default I left at APPROXIMATE_BBOX. If you all agree on this new behavior then I will change the preferences in the UI, but I've never touched the UI before so I would like to have some feedback before diving into this. Along the way I've solved various snapping bugs, but probably also introduced some fresh ones. Let me know if you find one! There are some things to note: - If you choose the GEOMETRIC_BBOX, the handles will now be located at the GEOMETRIC_BBOX (they used to be always located at the APPROXIMATE_BBOX) - The origin option is not being used and will be deleted soon. - The origin doesn't drift away any longer (unless the object is being mirrored while scaling/stretching and APPROXIMATE_BBOX has been selected, but I still need to fix that) - The stroke width scales while dragging, even when the corresponding button has been disabled. When releasing the handle everything turns out just fine, but while dragging it still looks like snapping wrong. I don't think this is due to the selector tool though. Today I imagine the ideal would be to use a program like blender, export as SVG, and then use inkscape to cleanup and beautify the end result. In any case, while this car example is perhaps rather extreme, there's a vast range of simpler cases - floor plan layouts, woodworking diagrams, etc. etc. - that people could get good use out of it. :-) Bryce

Memory leak in Clone Tiler

I'm deffinitely not an expert, but it seems that Clone Tile has a memory leak in clonetiler_remove. Removing clones doesn't free the memory taken for their creation (speaking of really many clones -- 1000 objects should be enough) but removes the clones itself (XML editor watched). Observe how memory increases when there are many clones created but doesn't get any lower when hitting Remove button. Vlada

Both do their real work using javascript, just one has the script embedded inside the svg and the other is sort of turned inside out with the svg inside the script. Well, not exactly but close enough. Is it possible to put mouse handling code inside svg's? If so then you could make a single svg that has the features of the OP's link. --bb

Suggestion for a better paint bucket cursor

I thought the paint bucket cursor could use a little work. So here's my humble offering. Not sure how to convert it to an XPM but it should still have the same original 3 color palette so it should convert no prob for someone with GraphicsMagick 'convert' in easy reach. --bb

"move selection to layer above/below" in wrong menu

Hey guys! I just stumbled across that fact, that "Move selection to layer above/below" is in the layers menu, while I think it would make a lot more sense to be in the object menu (although that is already rather full) since you actually do not modify the layer but the selection. 1.: What's your opinion on this? 2.: Should I file a bug about it? Backwards compatability of grids in InkscapeSVG

Because I made a new grid framework to better accomodate new grid types, I had to put the definition of grids elsewhere in SVG. If I'll remove the old grid code now, the 'old' grid in Inkscape SVG's will not be read, Inkscape will think no grid will be there. Aaron thought up a nice idea: to make an extension to convert old grids to new grids; then the codebase is not cluttered with compatability code, and we can easily remove the extension when it is deemed ancient. Ideas? Should this be sent to the user maillist aswell? Regards, Johan

Hello I am Diego Botelho of Argentina, I am Graphical Designer and I use Inkscape among other free tools with operating system Linux (distribution TUQUITO an Argentine distribution in which I am part of the Staff in the grafica of the system). Gustaria to collaborate to me making some bellboys for the program so that it changes the aspect and that it also arrives by the Vista, it is not that this badly, only is that in all the versions always there are changes very good but never of graph (icons of arrow, node, zoom lens, etc) gustaria for knowing to Me where I must send the graficos that do so that they see them and they decide if to use them or no, it is only an idea and a contribution but of toso those that integrate the list. Build questions

Thanks to the helpful hint about btool, I was able to build inkscape on Win32 this morning. Questions: 1) does anyone know if MinGW 4.0 build from here http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Win32Port can peacefully coexist with the official MinGW package? I mean is it safe to unzip that MinGW directory right on top of the MingGW 3.4.5 installed by the official package from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2435 My main concern is that the 4.1 package is missing some things I'd like to have like g77 and gdb. 1b) [OT] Ok, what's up with MinGW releases? Why isn't gcc 4.1 available from mingw.org itself? 2) In the version I built, the Selection tool handles come out looking like trashed and/or misaligned memory. Is this a known issue? Both sets of handles (scale and rot/shear) are messed up. All other handles for the other tools seem to be ok. (To repro, hit 'p', draw a curve, hit space.) 3) I can't seem to load any images in my build (like .bmp, .png etc.). [Using the import menu item] 4) "Save window geometry" doesn't. Inkscape always opens up at the same too-small default size whether I have the preference set or not. (That's true for the current release as well as my SVN build). Where would I start looking to go about fixing that? --bb

Actually, unzipping it into C:\MinGW4 was what I did initially because I didn't want to clobber my existing setup. But I wasn't able to compile anything that way because g++ failed to find any of its headers (like <iostream> etc). After renaming the directory to C:\mingw everything worked fine. So I'm pretty sure the C:\mingw path is embedded somewhere in the MinGW 4 package I downloaded from the net. (This is the one I'm using: mingw-4.1.2-070401) For now I've resorted to just renaming the directory depending on whether I'm working on Inkscape or something else. Times like these I really wish Windows had symlinks. --bb

Escaping $ in commandline parameters

I just fixed a bug: string parameters were not escaped causing problems when using " . Also $ bugs on linux, because it tries to replace $... with a defined variable; if there are other operating systems that need escaping of $ aswell, please add them to the #ifdef in /src/extension/parameter.cpp line 19. I only know Linux and Windows and cannot check for other operating systems. Maybe a make check something should be added for this! (i don't know how, sorry) Cheers, Johan

This page http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32_inkscape_org/win32buildnotes.html says that to build Inkscape for win32 I should compile with: make -f Makefile.mingw This file doesn't exist in the fresh checkout I made from SVN less than an hour ago. (Except for in some seemingly minor subdirs: F:\usr\pkg\inkscape\head>find . -name Makefile.mingw .\src\dom\Makefile.mingw .\src\pedro\Makefile.mingw Is there some way I can generate it, or someplace I can download it? --bb

Inkscape go-slow Saturday Experiment (with data)

Hello Eric, MenTaLguY and Bulia. :) I spent quite some time this morning getting this data. I did 2 things - kept a log and ran Eric's perl script. The log from the script is 151Kb in size, so let me know to whom I can email it. (I won't attach it to the list.) I really tried to graph column 1 against column 2 but OpenOffice was weird, Koffice kept crashing and I have now spent over an hour trying to gnuplot it to no avail. I am not mathematically inclined and have given-up -- I hope you guys make more sense of the data than I can. I hope this helps you debug something, I'll keep watching the lists. perspective effect - warning message dialog

Hi, I posted a few days back on the inkscape-users mailing list about a warning dialog that pops up when I use the Perspective effect. The dialog lists the following warning 4 times with slightly different numbers at the front: ** (inkscape:5984): WARNING **: Format autodetect failed. The file is being opened as SVG. I've since applied the recent patch submitted by acspike which doesn't seem to fix the problem. Keep in mind that the effect *does* work, but always pops up this dialog just before performing the effect. This doesn't happen on my XP box at work, only on my linux box at home (Ubuntu Edgy). I'm interested in solving the problem because I've been doing several inkscape screencasts and I was hoping to do one using the perspective effect, but it doesn't look so great (for inkscape) when the app pops up warnings in the middle of the demonstration. I've got a (very) little bit of python experience, but since I'm completely unfamiliar with the inkscape extension architecture, I can't make sense of where the warnings are generated and why. I'd be willing to test or help in any way to get this solved. ps. The word 'exactly' is spelled incorrectly in the perspective.py file in the debug message about the 2nd object being four nodes long. [line 53 in the latest patched perspective.py file]
