Hello All, As far as I've understood it is possible to create a snapshot of the UI in SVG format once you start using GTK 3.x. It would be a great boon for those active in the UI development if there was an SVG version of the UI to tinker with, rather than tonnes of bitmaps to cut and paste around. Can anyone tell me if this is already possible, or are there still constraints by the GTK 2.x code? If not, could someone please create a snapshot for the UI redevelopment effort in SVG format. That would be absolutely awesome for the creation of mock-ups and the actual end product alike. Cheers, Jelle

Removal of GTK+ 2 support in Inkscape trunk

Summary: Removal of GTK+ 2 support in Inkscape trunk is proposed for w/c 2016-08-01. Comments and questions are very welcome. Dear All, We are planning to remove support for GTK+ 2 in Inkscape trunk. A full statement of the reasons and the implementation plans is given on this wiki page: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Notice_of_removal_of_GTK%2B_2_suppo… Please note that under this proposal, the forthcoming Inkscape 0.92 release *will* still use GTK+ 2, but all future releases will require GTK+ 3. As of now, development of the forthcoming Inkscape 0.92 release has been moved to the new lp:inkscape/0.92.x branch on Launchpad. You can grab a copy using: bzr branch lp:inkscape/0.92.x Please prioritise your efforts here on fixing any remaining "blocker" bugs, as listed at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bugs?field.tag=blocker The main Inkscape Trunk branch (lp:inkscape) will, from now on, be used for future releases (>= 0.93). If you wish to work on the code here, you will need to have the GTK+ 3 development libraries (and GTKmm, GDK+ 3 etc) available on your system. This is a major change, and the migration will inevitably cause some difficulties. However, the consensus among active developers is that the current situation of supporting both GTK+ 2 and GTK+ 3 is unmanageable. 0.92 release branch

Hello everyone, I made a branch for the 0.92 release under lp:inkscape/0.92.x. Currently the only change in this branch is the reversion of the SPCanvas widget changes that were causing performance regressions on some platforms. After 0.92, the following large changes are expected: - C++11 mode will be enabled. C++98 compilers will no longer be supported. - Autotools and btool build systems will be removed in favor of CMake. - Inkscape will be based on GTK3. GTK2 support will be removed. - At some point, code will be migrated to GitHub, to take advantage of automatic continuous integration with TravisCI. The bug tracker and answer tracker is expected to remain on Launchpad for the foreseeable future. Best regards, Krzysztof

Building on Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)

Hi All, Thought you might be interested to know that I've successfully built and run Inkscape on the new Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) in Windows 10 Insider Preview. This is a real boost to my workflow and I'd recommend it to anyone else who likes to develop on Linux, but uses Windows for their day job. It's pretty easy... just install WSL [1] and then you'll have a native Ubuntu shell that you can use on your Windows desktop. You can then set up a Linux build in the shell as normal. Link properties dialogue missing on pre-build for OSX

Recently, I needed to include an anchor element in a document that was being authored using Inkscape. The difficulty after creating the link wrapper, was locating the Link Properties dialogue. In fact, I am unable to find it, and I do not believe I have it. I have the contextual menu option on right clicking on the anchor element, but no dialogue. :( Q1. Is this behaviour particular to pre-build OS X versions of Inkscape, only? Q2. Should I report this as a bug? Thanks. -u

Windows build new (for me) warnings

Hi all, I have not built Inkscape on Windows in a while, so today updated devlibs and Inkscape, tossed the build directory, and ran btool. Hi to all, playing with filters I notice usualy filters apply a 1.20 scale to the area of the effect with a negative ofset to center it. This is good for some filters but not for all, if I change it to 1.0 in a element, the effected element loose his bounding box in the stroke part -geometric bounds- is posibol to fix it to visual bounds or is a problem with the SVG spec? Hi Jabier, When I play with filters I always use geometrical bounding box because of that. I don't know if this is really an svg spec. The filters need often a lot of room to develop their effects. I tried to give each one the most convenient space around. Sometimes it's fairly large ! Creating CSS Dialog

Hi As double clicking any selector should open up the CSS dialog, I am trying to open CSS dialog in the _buttonEventsSelectObjs for GDK_2BUTTON_PRESS. I have registered the CSS dialog correctly. Calling the constructor of CSS dialog does not open it. Therefore, I am calling it as: _desktop->_dlg_mgr->showDialog("CssDialog"); // dialog opens Looks like verb associated with the dialog has to be used so that it shows up on double click. New font editing branch

Hi, I had reason to do a little font design using Inkscape recently and found a few pain points... which I have fixed. As we are in string freeze, I pushed the changes to a new branch which can be found at: bzr branch lp:~inkscape.dev/inkscape/font_editing In particular I changed the font editing dialog: 1. Allowed for fonts with other than 1000 units per em. 2. Allowed setting 'ascent', 'descent', etc. 3. Allowed setting individual glyph horizontal advances. 4. I also work a little on the website project. I would like to get an account on the wiki, to be able to write glossary info for French as a first reason, because such a glossary would be very useful to other translators and I like to share the core nodes of my work. Other reasons would be trying to update/improve pages or correct their little mistakes, as I can't bear working with mistakes, obsolescence and non-compliance without attempting to correct them (I love the wiki system for that). arcs in the path editor

Hi again, After some procrastination, I have found time to fix some issues with the arc editor feature I proposed a while ago. (See here: https://sourceforge.net/p/inkscape/mailman/message/31695400/) I have uploaded my latest changes to launchpad. https://code.launchpad.net/~danieljabailey/inkscape/arc_node_editor The new changes allow you to convert an arc to a bezier curve (simply by using the "make selected segments curve" button). I have also fixed the bug that was pointed out to me, which meant that an arc at the end of a path would sometimes become a straight line. I am facing one more issue however, when converting an arc to a bezier, some arcs cause a segfault. The easiest way to reproduce this is to convert a circle to a path and then try to convert the resulting arcs to beziers. (Arc to bezier conversion being the feature I recently added.) I seem to get the segfault on a line that sets the position of a bezier handle. This is in a function I have added, "PathManipulator::replaceSegmentWithPath". Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. Valgrind and gdb have, surprisingly, not been particularly helpful. Any advice would be much appreciated, I'm not sure if I am re-implementing things that already exist by adding the replaceSegmentWithPath function. Perhaps there is already some code for this which I can use. Thanks, Dan.

Hi to all. >From time ago we have in pen/cil handles a hack to make them more visible over items with the same color. I do some tweaks to make it a bit lighther and to use the same effect in lines and handle points. Comment #20 The question, is a good idea apply it to 0.92? If not, I sugest comment the code on current handles highlight. Also in the same bug, I do 2 XOR proposals but they are in early stage and pending to know if XOR affect too much in performance, actual XOR parts are more static than a helper line that can be fast moved. OS Windows: Automating Inkscape

I'm an "OS Windows guy" and automation maniac, e. g. via AutoHotkey: AutoHotkey https://autohotkey.com / Automation depends on hotkeys, shortcuts and unique identifiable windows (dialogs) with their controls. Ideally, there is an integrated command prompt interface or something comparable available in the app. Concerning automating Inkscape 0.91, I have some first questions: 1. Missing/not unique hotkeys (the [Alt+_] combinations) in (main) menu items Is there a convenient way to add/change those h o t k e y s somewhere? The shortcuts are saved in XML-files, like default.xml. Via Preferences -> Interface -> Keyboard the shortcuts are editable. I found preferences.xml and some folders here %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\inkscape and the XML-files in my local installation ...share\keys\default.xml BUT exporting shortcuts crashes Inkscape. 2. gdkWindows and AutoHotkey I haven't any chance to access controls inside an gdkWindows via AutoHotkey. That's really a pitty. 3.
