Developing on Mac

Hey Inkscape developers, I’ve spent the last several years both using Inkscape and working with C++, and I’d really like to contribute to the project now that I have some relevant skills. I develop on macs though, and I can’t seem to find any up-to-date instructions on building for mac. Can anyone point me to some current info? Hi to all. Im starting a proyect and want link 2Geom to the code. Always have problem on compile because 2Geom files includes has a include base like "#include 2geom/point.h" and dont find it correctly. Any one know how to link 2Geom library whithout this problem, I dont want to change source code of 2geom. Connecting 2 paths smoothly in code

Dear Inkscape-devel, I have these two paths (Geom::Path, or two Piecewise<D2<SBasis>> if you want), and I would like to join them smoothly (C1, to be precise), in code. Is there an API provided to achieve this task? What I am trying to achieve is obvious to do using Node Tool by first “Join selected nodes" and then “Make selected nodes symmetric”, but I am not sure how to achieve this in code using Geom::Path easily because it doesn’t have a notion of “node” to manipulate. I can setInitial() or setFinal() or setPoint() manually, but since the feature in already there in the code, although in the parts I do not yet understand (PathManipulator), I figured I should ask. Regard, I do not make something like "a request" ;-) But: There are many situations, where you just create a plain object in another layer, with the size of the document. Knots vs CtrlPoint

Developers, I've just been scrutinising the code for guidelines, specifically the code that draws the little circle indicating the main co-ordinate of the guideline. What it looks like is back in 2009 the code src/display/sp-ctrlpoint code was a clone of the much older original code in src/display/sp-ctrlquadr which we've had since at least 2005. ctrlquadr draws a square using cairo, used by ui/tools/text-tool only ctrlpoint draws a circle using cairo, used by display/guideline only If we could replace these two instances with Knot objects, we should be able to remove this code completely? (11.8KB, 1150 lines) Are there any land minds you are aware of with this code? (somewhere it's being used without being able to find it?) For comparison, SPCtrlLine and SPCtrlCurve are used by pen-tool, mesh-tool, gradient-tool, text-tool and the measure-tool. So they're very well used in comparison. Best Regards, Martin Owens

Lib2Geom: no matching function for call to 'assert_degree'

Dear Inkscape-devel, I attempted to create a line segment using appendNew with 2 arguments (as suggested in the wiki <http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/WorkingWith2GeomFAQ>): line1.appendNew<Geom::LineSegment>(p1.pointAt(0.), p2.pointAt(0.)); but I got the error message: ../../src/2geom/bezier-curve.h:218:7: error: no matching function for call to 'assert_degree' assert_degree<2>(this); ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ../../src/2geom/path.h:740:23: note: in instantiation of member function 'Geom::BezierCurveN<1>::BezierCurveN' requested here do_append(new CurveType(finalPoint(), a, b)); I am not sure why this would be a problem here. The following line creation would work without this error message: line1.start(p1.pointAt(0.)); line1.appendNew<Geom::LineSegment>(p2.pointAt(0.)); which puzzles me because this leads to a call of assert_degree() as well, although the degree check appears to be the expected 1 instead of 2. In fact, is the line segment creation mentioned in the wiki “valid”? It seems to internally call LineSegment(finalPoint(), a, b) which would be interpreted as a quadratic curve. Thank you. I'm definitely submitting materials to this from my portfolio (including Inkscape materials). What I'm wondering is, do we have a talk planned for Inkscape? Do we have a booth/information to hand out? Do we want any of these things? I'm local to the London area, so I'm able to help set up anything we'd like to do. At the very least I think we can do: Video presentations w/animation Fliers/cards. In addition to creating these items, I'm willing to foot the bill for things like fliers if we don't have project funds available for it. node sculpting behavior

Hi Friends, When I first started using Inkscape, which was version 0.44, node sculpting had a different behavior than it has now. I want to ask if it would it be possible to provide the previous behavior, as an option, perhaps using key modifier, or option on the control bar? I'll try to describe, with attached screenshot (sculpt2.png). You can see that dragging the right end node, with Alt key results in the nodes wider apart in the middle, and closer together on the ends (no matter whether I dragged from the right or left side, the result is the same). I'm not sure exactly in which version this changed. But previously, dragging the same right end node would result in nodes wider apart, the closer they are to the node being dragged. Since I can't show an example, imagine it's the same right end node, and it would behave much like a rubberband...or elastic string -- stretched more near where the force is applied, and less on the other end. And so the nodes would be progressively closer together, the further they were away from the node being dragged. One thing I used to like to do, was find an end node of a spirogram. Select all nodes except the other end, then Alt + drag the first end, and it would unravel the spirogram from one end to the other. One of the first images I ever made with Inkscape is also attached, the unravelled spirogram. You just can't do that anymore, with Inkscape, afaik. To be honest, I loved that old behavior and used it a lot. I haven't found many uses for the current behavior. I guess it can make a good bell curve. But I think both behaviors are useful. Would it be possible to provide this optionally? If so, I'd like to make that a feature request. (Unless it already is??) Thank you very much, brynn

The unit of stroke width in Inkscape UI, and 'px' unit

Dear inkscape-devel, Quick question: what is the unit of the stroke width in the Inkscape UI? I am talking about this seemingly unit-less number: When looking at StrokeStyle, it seems to match ‘px’ (SVG user unit). If this is indeed a 2 px width, shouldn’t we add the unit after the number like showing units after W, H, X, Y to make everything clearer in the UI? Brand new crash with text blocks

Hi ! I lack of time to fill a bug because I must leave now (otherwise I will do it in the evening). With the last yesterday trunk Inkscape crashes if I try to change the font size to a bigger one which exceeds the size of the text block. For example in attached file. Extended xml editor

Does anyone know how to implement extended xml tag editor in inkscape? Before several years I wrote system for embroidery pattern generator from svg based on private xml tags, but simple XML editor included in inkscape makes it cumbersome. Some very basic functionality of this stitch generator can be seen at: https://youtu.be/VKle5ApsMnA Editor should have functionality very similar to interface of external scripts but before showing dialog, it should first collect actual data from svg by calling proper extension script method (eg .getparams() ) and prepare file similar to inkscape dialog definition file.inx with <param name= ... > and then dynamically generate dialog to allow user modify sewing parameters, after that call classical extension .effect() method to do changes in svg. I want to implement it but I'm totally lost in inkscape source code. I think that all functionality is already somewhere in inkscape but I need someone to show me the way. Tony

Lock guides branch

Hi to all. I just propose to merge the lock guides branch. ¿Any one want review it? https://code.launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/inkscape/lock_guides This allow to lock a guide in the guide dialog. This is part of a future work using gides. In my mind I want to link optionaly a guide to a item or maybe more than one. If this guide is linked, only show if the element/s is selected. Any one think is a bad idea because it add a extra level of complexity on guide usage to the benefits it have? Anyway is not a blocking thing to my proyect but it benefits a lot of it. If any one is interested in the secret proyect, is a LPE applied to groups, this lpe lock for the crossing guides and slice the content of the group into sliced subgroups. Cheers, Jabier.

Offset LPE

Hi to all. This is a mail about the "new" LPE offset I made with the help of the previous work of Liam P. White. in Join Type LPE and the Krzysztof Kosiński on new boolops code. The video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfzvXD9jrAk This code is slow than previous (non lpe) with Livarot, I try to improve it but is slower. By the other side it bring to the user the ability to use non rounded join types on increment offseting. Any way I couldent full remove Livarot from the code want, is using to hadle nonzero fills and for simplify the paths. Not sure about the LPE, I spend a lot of effort improving it, but i couldent get it like Livarot one and think is a blocking problem to substitute SPOffset code like Mc- want, but maybe can be a first step to other dev... Another way can redone or mix it with Libarot but maybe is a back step. But if is not a problem, and while getting better result, we can do a LPE to offset like SPOffet do, allowing to remove SPOffset from the code. Also I hope could make join types diferent than rounded except extrapolated arc :(. Cheers, Jabier.

New Potrace dependency

It will still build without the external library, but without the trace bitmap/flood tools. Windows Devlibs will need to be updated separately. Cheers, AV

Problem with paths

Hi to all. Working with a function that split into subpaths all self crossings of a path, I throw a LPE exception in path.portion I call it with a value for example "path.portion(0,2.9345)" and path size == 4. I think I dont get any continuity problems when creating a portion, anyway it happends, also if active setStitching to the path Here are the function: https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/item/7011 I comment in the code where the exception happens "std::cout << "EXCEPTON HERE\n";" Next logs to this line don't show if exception. Artivity patch for Inkscape

Hello everybody, a few months ago I contacted you the project we're currently doing with the University of the Arts, London. Our 'Artivity' project aims to produce an open source activity tracking platform similar to Zeitgeist. However, we do not only capture high level events such as 'created file' or 'visited website' but also store provenance data about how a document was created and which resources were used in the process. We don't have an official website yet, but if you're interested: here's our repository [0] and a recent article about the current state of the art [1]. The project is still in a rather early stage, but the platform has matured to a point where we think it's worth spreading the word. I asked if it was possible to write extensions for Inkscape in C++. Since this does not seem to be possible at the moment, I want to ask you if you accept a patch to integrate our Artivity extension upstream. I appended a patch file to this e-mail. Please have a look at it and tell us what we have to change in order for you to accept it. The patch is done against the current release tarball of Inkscape (v0.91). You can apply the patch by unpacking the tarball in a directory and the following command: patch -p0 < inkscape-0.91-1artivity0.patch Our 'extension' is only compiled when Inkscape is configured with the option '--enable-artivity'. So the build should behave as normal when configured without this option. If you want to build the extension you will need libartivity [2] installed on your system. The only dependency for building the library is libcurl. So you'll need to install the libcurl development headers. Everything else should be pretty straight forward. I'd really love to have the Artivity extension to be a dynamically loaded plugin. If there's any progress on defining a plugin API for native C++ extensions I'll volunteer in implementing it.
