Hi to all, we speak in Toronto about the reviews. we spoke is good make them more faster about less than a mounth. But there is "anciant" branches waiting for some love. I not have enought knows to do it with sure and a cuple of them are mine. Im happy because a lot of my code is on 0.91+devel but i want more :). Maybe is better this new improvements wait for 0.93 release... I hope we can start a discussion about it from here. Anyway thanks to all reviewers and hope more people can help them soon. SVG to PDF, dbus errors on Ubuntu inkscape.dev/stable PPA

I don't know if this is fixed in trunk, my apologies if it has, but the current stable binary on Ubuntu in the PPA throws an ugly error if you don't have dbus configured. Someone else reported this here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1460797 To reproduce, convert any svg to pdf on the command line: inkscape --file logo.svg --export-pdf logo.pdf Error: Failed to get connection ** (inkscape:10595): CRITICAL **: dbus_g_proxy_new_for_name: assertion 'connection != NULL' failed ** (inkscape:10595): CRITICAL **: dbus_g_proxy_call: assertion 'DBUS_IS_G_PROXY (proxy)' failed ** (inkscape:10595): CRITICAL **: dbus_g_connection_register_g_object: assertion 'connection != NULL' failed I don't know if this is a missing packaging dependency (requiring dbus) or a configure-time error, but I run Inkscape without X and so don't normally have dbus available. Inkscape in the wild - seen in Tel aviv

So I was walking near the Tel Aviv municipality building yesterday and noticed that the entire side of the ground floor was covered with a large abstract mural composed of multiple shapes. Started looking at the shapes and noticed: spirals, 3D boxes, shapes filled with a vertical stripe patterns, pie slices... And it dawned on me that it MUST have been created in Inkscape! You can see photos of the mural here: http://bit.ly/1euwWvS (I had to shorten the link - the original link has hebrew characters in it and I can't paste it correctly) The page is in hebrew but you can see the photos. The text next to the mural says the artist's name is Nurit David, that the mural has somethign to do with Peter Bruegel's "The Triumph of Death" and that the digital nature of the work has something to do with the transience of time (I'm heavily paraphrasing, translating art-speak between two languages is nearly impossible).

I am using Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro with resolution 3200x1800, gnome 3, the icons, axis fonts, look so small. Some buttons, texts, have overlapping. I noticed that this already reported on bug tracker on launchpad a long time ago. https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1285887 I just want to know if there is any update of the hidpi support? Is it on the going or no buddy even care about it?

I just saw this in this video. Somehow I did not notice it before :( - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTbYHmQkY9w - generates a meshing gear at each point on the path and remains editable (of course) Is it possible for me to redirect its "gear" call to the new gears plugin here: https://github.com/jnweiger/inkscape-gears-dev Is it envisaged in the future to allow this to be python scriptable (I assume its all embedded c at the moment) ?

Boolops progress

There is a new toy "boolops-new" in 2Geom's source repository - it computes an union of two paths using my new boolops code based on the Greiner-Hormann algorithm. What works: - Union - Intersection - Adding difference and XOR is trivial - Linear and Bezier segments of arbitrary degree - Code is fairly clean and understandable - Reasonably good performance, even though there are very few optimizations What remains to be done: - Could be simplified a bit and better documented. - Intersection procedures for arc-arc and arc-Bezier cases. Currently they throw UnimplementedError. - Handling of degeneracies and second-order intersections. I have this mostly planned out, except for a few nasty cases with overlapping Bezier segments. - Add &, |, / operators to PathVector. I think / will be better than minus for set subtraction. - Function that converts a nonzero winding pathvector to even-odd winding pathvector with the same filled areas. It's a lot easier to do this conversion than it is to do Booleans on nonzero winding fills. I observed no crashes or hangs, though when two pathvectors overlap exactly, some paths can be skipped in the output. Since this code is already a lot better than the old attempts present in 2Geom (path-intersection.h, shape.h, region.h and the like), I'm going to remove them to reduce cruft. Regards, Krzysztof

measurement tool - save measurement to drawing

I would find it very useful if there was a hotkey to "save" the measurement tool as part of a drawing. Ie I use the measurement tool in the usual way and when I have it positioned where I want it, hit a key and the measurement is drawn into the diagram. Maybe one key for angle, one for distance (and one for both). cheers

Hi, I needed to measure a lot of angles and I thought it would be nice if Inkscape would show me the angle of the connecting line (relative to the x-axis) of two nodes when I select exactly two nodes. Trunk glitch? and guide lines

Monday 22 June - 10:08:27 PM Don't really know how to communicate with the developer group(s) on these user boards, which I do glance at now and then, and being in the midst of 'the important work' I must learn more about that a little later. Though a new and often searching user, I do already very (very) much appreciate this Inkscape thing, and want to assist in the developments to whatever extent I might. Two things so far: Loaded in the Trunk version on the 20th to see what that was like, and then put the stable version back in today. (Mint 17 operating system) Changed back for just the one reason really, the Trunk no longer contained 'delete all guides' in the edit menu. I use the 'objects to guides' quite a bit to guestimate reasonable seeming perspectives, particularly when the piece is simple enough not to bother with a paper drawing or a Sketchup model first. (Those sudden nests of guide lines, only loosely related to any real vanishing points, sew confusion onto next uses unless I can keep dismissing them wholesale.) ... That 3D emulator-or-possibly-actual-tool, that is there among the available functions; I've had to tag that one for some future study session. Speaking of the guides, though the labelling and information options are pretty darned useful for getting precise with, it would also be good to be able to push guides around their rotation points by eye, as well as with the deg. entry. (Even though that protractor tool is a completely fine little gem.) ...*Wait*, let me try something here....OH MY GOD, control shift gets little rotation arrows showing and going with stepwise changes, and then shift by itself allows for smooth rotation.*Inkscape Are The Best!* I also think it would be useful to be able to pin different groups of guides to given layers. - Probably also a feature already available and awaiting discovery eh? One last other thing to mention, very minor really, about that Trunk version. A single straight line will not be blurred unless it is manipulated first, though even a very subtle bending was enough to do the trick. As arrow-straight lines are pretty much a wierd and overpowering spice within the 'loosley suggestive' styles of drawing anyway, I found this one by fluke. And it was late at night, and I was tired, so, I am not really sure... The line vanished and an empty selection box grew around where it had been as I increased the blur number. (drawing effects such as pencil and sketch seemed disabled too, but by then I had made a decision and went to bed.) Thanks again folks, for this Inkscape thing. It's a starred line-item on my volluntary payments wishlist.

Inkscape Tools and Functions Interactive Treemap

Hey everyone. I'm presently developing a system to make it easy to treemap hotkeys and functions of a software package. I'll be posting the code on github and offering it under the GPL. As an initial development example, I'm using Inkscape. I have a mockup of (kinda sorta) what the resulting page will look like (all code will be HTML5 and javascript). The sample is here: http://www.opendesignstudio.org/inkscape/samples/inkscape_tools_treemap_moc… I was wondering what everyone thought of the idea, and the organisation of the information with regards to inkscape tool functions. Any additions or changes to the information? Additionally, I'll be providing the construction files for all the alternative inkscape icons in this chart to anyone who would like to use them, for whatever purpose. After I do a complete keyset of Inkscape in this manner, I'll be doing one for GIMP, Scribus, and *gulp* Blender. I'd also like to add a "quiz" feature that pops up flashcards of the keys to use in a sort of hotkey-calisthenics program. All this is to make people faster at using Inkscape and other software. bug report: path omitted in rendering to pdf

Hi, all, I'm a happy, long-time user of inkscape. Thanks for all your efforts over the years on this wonderful open-source project. This email is to report a bug in pdf rendering, which occurs in both the stable version and, as shown below, in the version compiled from the latest sources. $ /usr/local/bin/inkscape --version Inkscape 0.91+devel r14210 (Jun 22 2015) $ /usr/local/bin/inkscape --export-pdf=b.pdf b.svg $ ls -l b.pdf -rw-r--r-- 1 bcrowell bcrowell 857 Jun 23 05:42 b.pdf The file b.svg, which I've pasted into this email below, contains a single object, which is a moderately complex filled path. When I export to pdf, the resulting file does not contain any rendering of the object (as you can see from its small size in the listing above). Rendering to a bitmap works correctly, and rendering of filled paths does normally work, of course. The bug seems to depend on something specific about this particular path. I don't know whether this is a bug in inkscape or in cairo. Objects/Layers/Sets dialogs

I've got a few questions about the Objects, Layers, and Sets dialogs: * Does the Layers dialog have any functionality that isn't supported by the Objects dialog? * Can the Layers dialog be removed (or merged with Objects dialog)? * Does anybody understand why the Objects dialog slows down Inkscape (bug 1431274)? * What is the purpose of the "domino" like icon in the Objects dialog? Is it just to open the color dialog? Is there an easy way to close the color dialog once open? Is it really useful to be able to open the color dialog from this dialog? * In the Sets dialog, what is the purpose of "Items"? It seems like an unnecessary layer between the set name and the objects in the set. Thanks, Tav

New features in Scribus 1.5.1svn -- feedback, testing and bug reports required

Hi all, Not long ago, we released Scribus 1.5.0, and the development of 1.5.1, which will bring us closer to the next stable version 1.6.0, is underway. We have recently added some amazing new features that need feedback and testing from those who are willing to build 1.5.1svn (and a new dependency) from source and to test, namely: 1) Scribus 1.5.1svn comes with a new and modern icon set. It's not 100% complete yet, and you need to turn it on in the Preferences (it will become the default set once it's complete). 2) Scribus can now handle the CIELAB colour space and comes with a new CIELAB colour map for picking colours. 3) Scribus can now import/use Swatchbooker palette files (SBZ), which, together with CIELAB support, means that you can take full advantage of the Open Colour Systems Collection (http://lists.scribus.net/pipermail/scribus/2015-May/051770.html). 4) Scribus can now import/use Adobe Swatch Exchange files (ASE). 5) Thanks to the release of libfreehand 0.1.1 by the Document Liberation Project, Scribus can now import Freehand files (FH*) to the extent libfreehand allows. To build libfreehand 0.1.1 on Linux, just extract a source archive available from http://dev-www.libreoffice.org/src/libfreehand, cd into the source directory, run ./configure, make, and (as root) make install, and finally ldconfig, also as root. After that, CMake will detect libfreehand automatically (make sure to delete CMakeCache.txt in the ./Scribus source directory before running your cmake command). Initial tests have shown that it's already working pretty well. The Scribus Team (and I'm sure Document Liberation as well) would be grateful for feedback and bug reports. Thanks, Christoph

Would you accept patches for a C++ Plugin implementation?

Hello everybody, I'm working as a contractor for the University of the Arts, London. Currently, we're developing a Semantic Desktop to capture data about the creative process which is currently based on Linux, Inkscape and Zeitgeist [0]. In order to realize pushing events from Inkscape into Zeitgeist, we have currently created a fork and implemented the functionality as an internal plugin. This works well, but requires us to maintain a patched version of Inkscape. When i was starting with the implementation I stumbled across a site mentioned in your Wiki [1], which says: "Plug-in" - a loadable module with a message handler routine that receives messages and that operates on the Inkscape API functions directly. When I was digging in the source code I found some commented-out parts of the software [2] which contained code for those plugins, which seem to be native C++ plugins. It seems to me, that support for native plugins was prepared but never fully implemented. As we'd like to contribute something to your project we'd be looking into developing the missing plugin support. So we're asking: Would you be accepting patches for the C++ plugin support? And may be you know why it was never implemented? Are there any fundamental issues with this?
