First autobuild since Boehm and <text> fixed on Win32

Notice that there is now a copy of gdb.exe in the install directory. In the future, when testers find a crashing bug, they can instead open a console, cd into the inkscape directory, and type "gdb inkscape" then "run" ... then crash Inkscape, go to the console again, and type "bt" ...and give us the output. If they aren't good at consoles, they can douple-click gdb.exe, and at the 'gdb>' prompt type "target exec inkscape.exe" then "run" ....as before.. This way our testers can be real testers and participants of the project. Several times this has allowed us to fix bugs quickly, and we really appreciate it. Bob

I think that the behavior of illustrator in this area is good. Use the last use of the tool's settings for the next use of the tool. Thus if you changed the rectangle from blue to yellow, then the next time one used the rectangle tool, the shape would be yellow. Freetype2/win32 conversion

Since I am out for the weekend, I thought I would send some notes to the list about Freetype. Well, it looks as though we are on our own, and must convert to Freetype on Win32, whether we like it or not. So I made a few changes: Added more stuff to gtk24.zip (AGAIN! sorry) to include a freshly-built freetype6.dll, the fontconfig lib, and xmlparse.dll (required by fontconfig). Added WITH_XFT to config.h.mingw, but it is commented out. Freetype will not actually be used unless you uncomment this. I added '-lfontconfig' to the LIBS entry in Makefile.mingw.common. Note: the '-lfontconfig' should be changed to '-lfontconfig-1.0.dll' . This is an error that the original builder of freetype6.dll made, that apparently I duplicated perfectly :) . This is likely the reason that the original dll references "fontconfig", and not "fontconfig.dll" or "libfontconfig-1.0.dll" Both of these are because fontconfig's build erroneously put '-lfontconfig' in its pkg-config file, even though the build is dynamic only. Look in /target/lib for the correct spelling of the .dll.a file. (This is also quite likely the reason for the crasher.) Since the freetype6.dll I made has debug info, the crash reported the location to be at base/ftobjs.c, line 789 in the Freetype source. So to debug, someone might want to try putting breakpoints in FontInstance.cpp, and stepping until the crash happens. A font face * passes a NULL check, but fails a pointer->field reference. Sounds like an uninitialized value. Anyway, these are just some notes that I hope might help someone working on this stuff. Bob

I can confirm the painful slowness of zooming on it. Win32 .39 is what I tested in... Strange behaviour, not existing items

Hi, I'm taking a look at a drawing Kees Cook mentioned some months ago: http://www.wherearewe.co.nz/svg/world.svgz I was trying to clean it up a little and I found that when I ungroup some of the groups they split up in a group of 4 objects, when I ungroup that group I get one figure and 3 invisible objects. I tried to change the colours, but it doesnt affect them. When I click the "Adjust selection to window" button it zoom out very much so I only see the complete drawing very small. Transforming and duplicating objects

Hi, Being documenting the Transform Dialog, I just thought about few Illustrator and QuarkXpress interesting relative to tranformation : 1. Object duplication while resizing, moving or rotationg by using Alt-key. This key is already use but we may be able to use another (Ctrl+Alt). This is not necessary but can avoid few steps. Or when using a transform Dialog, the Ctrl+D shortcut allows to repeat the last one several times (very useful). 2. In the same maneer, QuarkXpress allows in its Duplicate & Move dialog to make copy of the selected object. Copy may take the Move parameters. In Inkscape this could be a field for numbers of copies+Copy Button placed in the Transform dialog. This is very great to get easily very regular-spaced objects, whatever they are. 4. I don't know why there is no "Constrain" checkbox in the Scale tab, because this options is available via keyboard when scaling with the mouse. 3. I don't really understand what does the "Relative" Checkbox. I did some tests but the result is the same in any cases. I don't know if it's planned, and if it's difficult, but most part for it seem to alrady exists. In FontFactory.cpp, there were #ifdef switches, like this: #ifdef WITH_XFT ...code... #endif #ifdef WIN32 ....code... #endif Its structure should have been like in FontInstance.cpp, #ifdef WITH_XFT ...code... #elif defined(WIN32) ...code... #endif ...since the definitions are not mutually exclusive. Thus the font server was being set to win32 in FontFactory, and FT2 was being called in FontInstance. Obvious -after- you see it. I'd say that this was 2/3 of the problem, and the wrong fontconfig DLL being called by Inkscape was the other 1/3. Bob
