Help us staff a booth at the largest German Online Linux event (English/German)!

Hi everyone, the Inkscape project is planning to host a virtual booth/stand again at the Chemnitzer Linuxtage (CLT), on March 12 and 13 (Sat/Sun) 2022! Usually the largest Linux and Open Source event in Germany, CLT are going to be an online-only event in 2022 again. The CLT (Chemnitzer Linuxtage) are an all-day event and we could use your help answering user questions about how to work with the program, how to contribute to it and about what is going on in the Inkscape community, by being available for questions and chatting at our virtual booth. The other thing we plan to do again is a series of short, 10 to 50 min topic-focused sessions – show other users how you use Inkscape, how to use your Inkscape extension, how people can help the Inkscape project or which cool things you made with Inkscape (and they can, too!). A live drawing session, a demonstration, a tour through your maker lab - anything that has to do with Inkscape is possible! So, no matter if you're 'just a user', a developer, a forum member, a regular user support provider in our chat channels, an Inkscape translator or other contributor – if you have some time available to spend helping the Inkscape project on that weekend in March, we would very much appreciate your help! Howdy folks, I am late getting out this notice and folks in the chat mentioned it'd be easier for everyone if we shifted the normal meeting back a week. Emoji handling - a mixed problem of system font management and application behavior - what is the part of inkscape

Hello folks, I have a very special and obscure situation. I am using inkscape version 1.1.1 on Arch Linux with Gnome Desktop 41.1, but the problem is present since several years on different systems, but I didn't notice it for a long time. Some months ago the situation changed… It is related to Emojis. I am using svg-files with astrological symbols as text, the fonts I am using are covering this unicode symbols and I do not want to have them replaced with symbols from an other font. But exactly this is happening since some years (in nearly every application and in a very special way in inkscape). I think it all comes from the definition which symbols are emojis and which not. There is a hand full of symbols which are in use as emojis and as normal "letters" in text - in my case asterisks. Since 2016 the system-wide emoji support is interpreting this symbols as emojis and substituting them with an emoji-font even if the signs are available in the font in use. A behavior I dislike at all, but maybe it is wanted by others for chat applications and similar. From 2016 to 2020 my system lack a special bitmap-emoji-font and I didn't notice the on going substitutin in the background. I use the Libertinus Sans (former Linux Biolinum) font and the emoji-substitutin has been replacing the asterisks signs of this font with the Dejavu Sans font - it seems Dejavu Sans is in use as an Emoji-fallback font, because of the huge unicode coverage. Since 2020 a bitmap-emoji-font is present on my system as dependency of gnome-characters. So everything changed. Now I have ugly colorful graphics instead of normal text-signs in many applications including Firefox, Eye Of Gnome,… … and inkscape? Even worse! Inkscape can not handle the signs from the bitmap-emoji-font and is substituting once again the asterisks with normal letters from the alphabet. My workaround at the moment: uninstalling gnome-characters and the emoji-font to again fallback on Dejavu font. But this is not satisfying, I want back the signs from my Libertinus font. I have not found any solution yet. I think this is a misbehavior of the emoji-implementation. But what is the problem? A missing functionality on application side or a bug of the emoji-substitution on system side? In other words: is it part of the application to accept or refuse the emoji-substitution or is the undemanded emoji-substitution of the font-system a bug itself? No matter what - I think, as long as inkscape is not able to use the emoji-fonts, it should refuse all emoji-substitution functionality completely (if possible?!). It causes problems in every case. [BUG] Inkscape font are not antialiased on Ubuntu 21.10/Gnome 40

Sorry if this is the wrong place to report this. If there is a better place for bug reporting, please let me know. I recently updated to Ubuntu 21.10 and on it inkscape fonts are not antialiased. I am using the snap versión and I reproduced the bug on two different PCs both in the stable and the candidate channel. I attached a screenshot of the bug. Libreoffice had a similar bug, already corrected, that seemed to be related to changes in the location of gsettings attributes related to antialiasing. BUG: Newer inkscape series crashes computer in heavy documents.

Hello, I'm currently working on a heavy .SVG document about almost 91 layers containing linked .PNG files in high resolution (300 dpi). While previous series (0.91) saved successfully individual layers as single .PDF-per-layer the latest 1.1 stands working when exporting pages and then crashes the whole computer after 20-30 seconds. Is not posible to kill the process manually by console. Just want to notify devels about this particular issue. Thank you, Xadaux
