Compiling on Windows 7 x64

Hello, Unfortunately, there is some problem with the build file or something wrong with the inkscape.exe. I have tried compiling on another machine on Windows 7 x64 only to face the same problem. The problem is: the build process completes successfully without errors but the inkscape.exe runs for a few seconds (seen in the task manager) and then quits. No windows opening, no send error report messages. Just a 'inkscape.exe' process in the task manager. Compiled by following the below page word to word: http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Compiling_Inkscape_on_Windows Compiler: TDM-GCC 4.7.1 Mingw32 bit edition and not the experimental 32 cum 64 bit one. I am new to development and can't seem to debug the .exe properly using gdb.exe. Please, can someone look into this. -- Arshdeep Singh

Hi, I think I'll be a little bit off topic but I don't know where to ask (my question about svg on inkscapeforum are left unanswered) Can someone point me to reference papers (or friendly forum) about coefficients in FeColorMatrix, Fecomposite ? Something that could answer the following questions : What are safe values ? For exemple inkscape UI allows x10 for k1,k2,k3,k4 in FeComposite, can I push to 255 ? 256 ? 1000000 ? I don't see anything in SVG spec about max values for those coeffs. What about neg values ? When does clipping occur ? Particularly for k4. What is the effect of a <100% opacity source or dest ? (On clipping for exemple) I try to port svg2 PorterDuff operations in svg 1 and I often get strange results (to me) with inkscape. Is there some known bugs in rendering fecomposite with neg values in inkscape ? Thx. V. Bonus question : why is inkscape so slow at rendering filters ? ;)

Setting Up in Eclipse-CDT

I intend to use Eclipse-CDT for working around the source code to understand things. If anyone can help me with it ? I import it. The C/C++ Code ananlysis results in lot of errors/warnings. I was wishing I code jump b/w linked files like we do for smaller projects in IDEs similar to Eclipse. Rendering cache committed

Hello I committed the rendering cache work in revision 10579 of trunk. If you encounter serious problems, you can turn off caching completely by defining the environment variable _INKSCAPE_DISABLE_CACHE. For example, run inkscape as: $ _INKSCAPE_DISABLE_CACHE=1 inkscape By default, each drawing will use up to 64 MB of memory for rendering data. It can be set in the "Rendering" page of the preferences (renamed from "Filters"). As usual, problem reports are welcome. Regards, Krzysztof

Report from the GSOC mentor's conference

Hi all, I have just gotten back from attending the Google Summer of Code (GSoc) mentor's meeting at Google's headquarters. It was quite interesting to here about other groups experiences with the program. My major conclusion from attending the conference is that Inkscape is not taking full advantage of the GSoC program. Almost everybody at the conference knew about and used Inkscape. This is in contrast to many of the other groups that I had never heard of. Given our popularity, our group of core developers seems very small. I thinks that this is perhaps why we are under-performing in GSoC; we just don't have the people to do a good job of preparing for the program. Here are some things I picked up: * Recruitment: We should be starting now! Most successful students have already had some significant experience with the software they will work on. Our two-patch rule is a good step in this direction but is probably not enough. * Application: We should have an application form with questions that test passion and competence. Here are some sample questions from other groups: - What computer do you use? - What editor do you use? - What code have you written? - Do you use IRC, mailing lists? - Do you have a mentor in mind? Have you contacted them? - Provide a time line for your work. - How well do you know Inkscape? Include a drawing you have made. - What vacations/exams will overlap with the GSOC period? Indirect questions work best. The "Why do you want to work for us?" questions aren't very useful. The application should test the ability to read and follow instructions. * Coding period: Require frequent and public discussions. Public discussions work best as then there are multiple people who can answer questions. Some groups have two mentors for each project. This is especially helpful when time-zone issues make communication difficult. Require frequent commits. It is important to gauge a student's progress as well as insure the quality of the code. Hello all, Just curious about whether anyone recently setup inkscape on Windows 7 ? I am following the instructions on the wiki, to no avail. Build tool successfully builds the application but the inkscape.exe invokes nothing on being run. -- demicoder
