release schedule?

I have never participated on a freesoftware project, so I dont know exactly how does the release schedule rolls. What comes after pre0 ? How many time does it take until pre1? Is pre0 the same that other projects call rc0 ? When do we have string freeze? How many time do translators have? At which date would you guess that we will have 0.46 released? One of the reasons that makes me ask these questions is the fact that I have been working on the filters more actively recently and I hope I am not messing the release schedule. Juca

On-canvas editing of clips and masks

Hello all, Josh looked at the LPE parameters in the <defs> section and saw similarities with masks and clips. LPE path parameters are on-canvas editable, so why not clips and masks asked Josh. Well... they *are* very similar, and with minimal effort I made the attached patch. =) Bugs everywhere I think (did not test what happens when you delete the clip path when editing for example...), so definitly 0.47 :) Cheers, Johan

Small enhancement of ellipse tool

Hi, I just discovered that the stuff I committed for the 3D box tool also contained a patch for the ellipse tool that had accidentally slipped in. I always found it a bit awkward that it's not possible to create circles/ellipses whose *boundary* (not a corner of the bounding box) passes through the the mouse cursor. Since the Alt-modifier seemed as yet unused in the tool, I added the following functionality. - Alt+drag creates the same ellipse as it normally would, but scaled by a suitable factor so that it passes through the click point and the mouse pointer; - Alt+Shift+drag behaves analogously with regard to Shift+drag (i.e., this creates an ellipse with center at the click point and passing through the mouse pointer); - Alt+Ctrl+drag creates a perfect circle with diameter the segment between click point and mouse pointer; - Alt+Shift+Ctrl+drag behaves the same as Alt+Shift+drag but with radii ratios constrained to integers. So basically pressing Alt just means "make the ellipse pass through the mouse pointer", apart from the exceptional case Alt+Ctrl, which I found very handy. Could you tell me if these shortcuts are intuitive to you or if you would like anything to work differently? Or maybe I missed something and it's already possible to draw these kinds of ellipses easily? If there is no objection, I'll add this to the Release Notes and also add the shortcuts to keys.xml. Inkscape filter effects causing crash

I'm using XP SP2 Inkscape 20080118 snapshop. When creating a filter effect for an object and connecting the filter to the fill color, activating the effect on the object causes Inkscape to close. I can connect the effect to the source graphic, but not the fill. The problem may also exist in other places of the filter effects. I sent this to both the user and dev lists because the last time I sent something to the dev list it didn't make it and I got a reply of some problem. It should make it to one of them. Problem with real units (mm)

Hi! Problem 1: I have switched everywhere (in inkscape) to unit mm. I only want to use that unit (and not px), for everything. Now, when I move something on canvas (or just a node) inkscape still write into the svg file the coordinates without unit (so pixel) and it calculates back and forth between pixel and millimeter. This approach has two disadvantages: - almost impossible to hand edit the resulted file or correct some inaccuracies in it. (because I need a calculator when I want to touch the file) - inaccuracies inserted for sure Problem 2: If I specify the unit in svg file, inkscape does not handle it, and misinterprets the file! Two Examples: 1: <path d="M 0,0 L 30mm,0 L 30mm,30mm L 45mm,30mm" id="path7887" /> becomes in inkscape (after modifying something in xml editor (ex: style), or moving a node): <path d="M 0,0 L 30,0 M 30,0 L 30,0 M 60,0 L 45,0" id="path7887" style="fill:none;fill-rule:evenodd;stroke:#000000;stroke-width:1px;stroke-linecap:butt;stroke-linejoin:miter;stroke-opacity:1" /> Second example: <g transform="matrix(1 0 0 -1 0 297mm)">  </g> I want to use it for flipping my coordinate (to carteesian coordinate), so I could more easily hand-edit/correct my drawing. Hello, I've gone and rolled a 0.46pre0 package for everyone's delight. Mostly the goal here is to start the packaging process and give packagers a chance to get angry at the distribution makers (me). Inkscape 0.46 About Screen Contest - Developer choosing time

Hello all! Community voting results for the about screen contest: http://inkscapers.deviantart.com/journal/16414256/ As it goes, the developers are now choosing from the top 3 to decide which one best fits the upcoming release. If you click on the thumbnails of the about screens, on the page you are then taken to, there is a download link on the left to obtain the SVG files. Since I know that would be everyone's first question. ;) I imagine the decision can be made in 3 days so we can then request/discuss/make tweaks shortly thereafter. Cheers, Josh

Attaching parasite information to an object (or group)

Hi! Right now im developing a little extension, and I have a problem what I could not get workaround. I hope someone more knowledgeable can me give a hand. Im implementing cross referencing in inkscape (it can be found on many schematics), please take a look at this example: http://khiraly.googlepages.com/crossreference.png The problem is, when a group (or object) is copied, all the ids got a new random string, so it cant be determine the original ids or the original component's type. All the component is similar (from a svg point of view) so it consists lines and texts. So Im looking forward to attach infos to an svg group, which persiste, when the group is copied. Im interesting in any method, like defining a css style, adding a parasite information, or rename the resulting group's id back to its original form plus a random character. Can anybody help me here?
