Looking at the roadmap of 0.46 I found: * (DONE) Convert use of gboolean to bool where feasible * (DONE) Switch from use of TRUE/FALSE to true/false When I search the source, I see *a lot* of gboolean and TRUE/FALSE. I will start switching code to bool when i see it. I could not find a text saying that we should use bool or gboolean. Similar issue is 'char' or 'gchar'. Where can I read which types to use? Thanks! Changing the names of a gradient.

As far as I can see, the only way to change a the name of a gradient is to do it in the XML editor. With the new on-canvas editing ability, would it be feasible to have the ability to change the name of the current gradient in the tool control bar for the gradient tool? If this is not a good place for it, where would be a better place? Cheers, ryanlerch

need help on filters

I would like to say that I am not much confortable with the filters implementation I was working on some time ago. I need help to make it work better. I know that there are bugs that are due to my incomplete broken implementation, but I am stuck because I still don't understand exactly how the filters infrastructure work I don't know how to properly implement zooming, nor rotation. Look at feturbulence. It does not rotate correctly. I also don't know whether I am using the best approach. I have used a pixmap buffer where I render the feturbulence effect and I have an "updated" flag. Then, if some parameters are changed (on sp-feturbulence.cpp) I set this flag to false. When the render method is called, it checks the updated flag and only recalculates the effect when the updated flag is false (and then sets it to true). When zooming, I will have to free the current pixmap buffer and create another one of greater size and recalculate it. It seems to me that zooming will have great slowdowns if I continue working that way. Any body know any kind of "design pattern" that I should be using to implement the zooming? I feel that I am walking the wrong way. And I keep scared about the possibility of not being able to fix these filters before next release deadline. So, what I mean is that I really need help to make this stuff work alright. Felipe Sanches, "JucaBlues"

Opacity Bug?

I found that a small bug in the Oct 18 build where the opacity for an object was incorrect. I had two object sharing the same gradient. One object was more opaque than the other even though the opacity for both was 100. I checked the XML editor and found that whilst both objects had Opacity:1, one of them had fill-opacity:0.71. I don't know how to reproduce this. It only happened once in an entire drawing. On a side note, I had been getting very confused when making a stop on a gradient transparent. I would change the Alpha value and the gradient would reflect the change, but later I would see the alpha value would be 255 instead of what I had set and what I saw on the graduent. It took me ages to spot that the alpha value was being replaced with the Master Opacity. No autopackages of developer versions

Hi From http://www.inkscape.org/download/ you can download Inkscape development versions. I can still get development versions for Windows that are only a few days old, but the latest autopackages for Linux is from 06-Sep-2007 12:02. Why? I'd like to test it on Linux. Best regards

Case sensitive font selection field

Hi, I posted this a couple of weeks before but never got a reply... So I'm reposting it once again: While working with some text in Inkscape, I found an unpleasant behaviour of the text selection field (the field above the font selection drop down menu): it is case sensitive. When I type "Arial" in it and hit enter, the selected text's font is changed to arial as it should. But if I type "arial" or "ARIAL", then I get a warning that the font is not found/installed. The expected behaviour is that no matter what case I enter in (like aRiaL) it must find the font I'm looking for (this is the behaviour of Illustrator, Indesign, Corel, Photoshop, Openoffice and many other programs). Although it is not a real bug, it is IMO a usability issue. By the way, I'm on Windows XP sp2. Is it the same on Linux? Mac? And should I fill a feature request or a bug report? Thanks! Molumen

Today's Inkscape0710230156 crashes on start and shows an error (see screenshot attached). Last build (from October 18) works ok. WinXP sp2 I will test latest Inkscape0710231722.7z and report.

Tablet issues

Ok, this is getting silly.... Bulya, I deleted the wiki entry on removing the GTK path, here is why... When I deleted the GTK path(s), the tablet mouse worked perfectly in Inkscape, however I later discovered that the pressure and tilt did not (also in Gimp). So, I uninstalled all GTK programs and reinstalled GTK 2.10.13. I also uninstalled Inkscape and reinstalled 0.45-1 then copied over Inkscape-dev from October 18th. Now the mouse returned to its previous behaviour so (just to be sure) I reinstalled the Wacom drivers (latest) and no change. So, to summarize - With gtk paths, mouse doesn't work but pressure/ tilt does. Without GTK paths mouse does work but pressure/ tilt doesn't. There must be a way to fix this as so many people have it working but removing GTK does not work for me, especially as Gimp makes far more use of pressure and that also fails with no GTK. As Gimp is also affected it must be due to GTK so for now I am going to have to give up on this one but I will post on the GTK forum to see what happens there. Testing needed on OS X Intel

Hello everyone, I would need someone with a 'virgin' system on an Intel machine to test the latest dev build. By 'virgin' I mean: - without Fink or MacPorts or a custom installed python - without modifications to ~/.macosx/environment.plist (- without modifications to ~/.bashrc -- this one should not be a problem but who knows) - without the python modules that were distributed previously alongside Inkscape or in the dev builds repository Basically this means that if you just install regular mac applications by drag and drop and never bothered to install Python for Inkscape, you are the one I need ;) I made some modifications to Inkscape so that the python modules that Inkscape uses for the "Effects" are directly integrated inside the application and work out of the proverbial box. So I need you to download and install (drag-and-drop, as usual) this: http://inkscape.modevia.com/macosx-snap/Inkscape-16250-i386.dmg Run it, draw something with the calligraphy tool for instance and apply two effects to it: - Color > any color effect - Generate From Path > Intrude Extrude Halo Both should work with no additional work. If your system is not as virgin as I described but that you still want to help, it is possible. You only need to remove the python packages you could have installed previously, to be sure these do not come into play here. You need to remove the folders _xmlplus, lxml and numpy from /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/ 2.3/lib/python2.3/site-packages and then follow the steps described above. If you have Fink/MacPorts with python or a custom python install from MacPython however, this change won't affect you since Inkscape will use your newer python install and discard the pre-compiled python modules which are made for the system install of Python. You still need to install lxml and numpy via Fink/MacPorts or by compiling them from source. Please report here your success or failure.
