Inkscape Logo use

Hi, What is the copyright status of the Inkscape logo? Can it be used on a book cover? Of course you want to know why I am asking... I've reached an agreement with Prentice Hall, aka Pearson, aka SourceForge Community Press for publishing my guide book to Inkscape. For the moment, it will remains as a PDF download. The HTML version of the book will remain freely available on my website. (Although there will be three new tutorials that are only in the PDF version.) I will give more details as they are known. Broken extensions

Hello all, I just found out that the LaTeX renderer, functionplotter, gears, and probably other effects are broken for me :( I get a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library (?!) error. This was very dissapointing; now i have to revert to 0.45.1 :( Anybody know what causes the bug? -Johan (winxp, svn head)

hello, first of all I'd like to introduce myself as someone who helps to manage the inkscape.org vm, but you may better know me as Inc on irc. Now onto business. If you've not noticed inkscape.org has been going down quite a bit lately that is due to apache hitting max clients. The best way to fix this problem is to put the whole website behind squid. Currently the website is behind squid but it's not able to work efficiently due to the fact that we're sending headers like "cache-control: no cache, must-revalidate. Bryce had mentioned that no-cache was probably there because of the translations. When we didn't have it there people were getting pages in whatever language the first person to load the page had set. So we probably need to rethink that. We need to get this done ASAP so that inkscape.org will be stay up. thanks, --Ian "Inc" Caldwell

Changed bitmap handling

Hello all, As you guys are aware Chris is working on putting some bitmap editing tools into Inkscape for is GSoC project. There's a couple things that are difficult on the user interaction front that I wanted to bring up and see what people think. Basically, there are two types of images: embedded and linked. There is two types of linked images that are read-only and ones that we can write. So what should happen when someone does a bitmap operation on these types of image? How should undo/redo be handled? I'm leaning towards saying "always embed" at this point. It's simpler and probably does something similar to what most people want anyway. We don't need file dialogs or temporary files. What does everyone think about this? Chris, did I state the problem correctly? --Ted

Probelm with PDF import / PNG export

Hi, I'm sending these PDF, SVG and PNG files to report a strange behaviour with the PDF import in Inkscape. The following applies to Inkscape0707150130 on Windows XP SP2 The attached file: It is a PDF-X1a 2003 (full cmyk, PDF1.4 compatible) it is the PDF specification that is the most simple and standard for offset printing. No layers, no spot colors, etc... This PDF has been produced by Illustrator CS2. The problems: - The PNG export: the PNG exported from the attached PDF is horizontally mirrored and cutted (see attached PNGs). G9.png was exported with "export selected objects" right after the importing of the PDF. G10.png was exported with "export selected objects" after I moved the logo to the center of the A4 page. LOGOdusicacouture.svg is the SVG saved by Inkscape right after opening the PDF. Looks like there is a mirroring that occurs when saving/exporting from this file, even if the PDF itself shows properly in Inkscape (see attached screenshot screenshotPDFopen.png) - color: When importing this PDF, the color is wrong. The original color (which renders the same in Illustrator, Corel Draw, Photoshop (when rasterized), Indesign) is C44 M58 Y86 K35. Inkscape shows C00 M27 Y61 K60 (alpha 100%). Also, I'd like to help testing more toroughly the PDF import feature. I have tons of PDFs created by a bunch of different programs and I can even create required PDFs (PDF-X3, PDF-X1a:2003 and others) from different applications. Add export to OCAL feature patch

Hi guys, I've submitted some patches to add support to export to OCAL feature patch over WebDav today. It's working fine for me. So, if someone could review this code, I will be grateful. Thanks to Jon and Ted, it's using gnome-vfs library. The neon library dependency was avoid =) Rigth now, it's impossible to interface with ccHost over WebDav, but I'm working on it. So, if you want to test the feature, I recommend you to use any webdav server, as you can find here: test.webdav.org/ Thanks

Poppler on win32

John Cliff helped me get his build of Poppler in win32 into the library bundle. http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32libs/gtk210-070715.7z I tweaked init.cpp and build.xml to use it. The latest build today should have it. Builds after 070715: http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32 It is building right now, so I don't know the time yet. It looks like it does definitely import simple PDF's. From what I've seen, it imports curves (to be expected :) but no images or fonts yet. Good start. bob
