I fixed several often-reported bugs of 0.45: * Exporting blurred objects to bitmap is now much faster. This was particularly slow in 0.45; some files could take hours to export. Now this is fixed, in part by the faster algorithm (contributed by Jasper soon after the 0.45 release) and in part by today's bugfix in the export code. Now even the quite complex files with large blurs export at high resolution in at most a few minutes. * The disappearing of blurred objects in exported bitmaps which happened for large objects in 0.45 is fixed. * The same fix got rid of the rendering artefacts that sometimes appeared on blurred objects during scrolling. While the fix is simple, it's in a sensitive area, so please test rendering and exporting your files with blur and report any problems to me at once! -- bulia byak Inkscape. Window title not consistent

When you open a document, the window title shows the filename exclusively, e.g. 'foo.svg' When you save a document, the window title shows the full path of the file, e.g. '/bar/foo.svg' I find this behaviour rather confusing and would suggest a more consistent window title. --------------------------------- Jetzt Mails schnell in einem Vorschaufenster überfliegen. Hey thanks for sorting that out bulia. About the enable preview text box: I'm not sure that I'm the best person to sort that out right now. You see right now I'm not really focussing on the GTK file dialogs. For Windows users I'm replacing them with Win32 native equivalents. My explorer thumbnail extension is making steady progress as well. I was really worred that the lack of ATL/WTL in MingW would be a big stumbling block. It turned out to be no problem in the end. The two problems I'm having are the slowness of compiling in Windows compared to Linux, as well as the problem of still (as far as I know) not being able to compile with btool in Vista - I have to work through VNC on a broken screened XP laptop lying under my desk! Inkscape performance

Hey all, So, with the last couple files I've worked on (my last hitting 23.5megs... note that I abuse clones ;)), Inkscape's performance seems to have tanked. Is this due to the nature of a "bloated" (not really bloated, but I used the term because it's human readable) format or a parsing issue or something else? I'm just curious if there's anything that could possibly be done to improve the performance. I know that I had files this complex in AI, and it could hang when the files got huge and I copied/pasted objects around. But it's even painful with stuff like pulling up the fill & stroke dialog for the first time in a session with one of these complex docs. It will take like 3-5 mins to unfreeze and show the dialog. Just figured I would ask. -Josh

Compile error in line-geometry.cpp with struct assignment for gcc 3.3

Hello, When I try to build svn 15634 using gcc 3.3 (OS X 10.3), I get a compile error: line-geometry.cpp: In member function `virtual NR::Maybe<NR::Point> Box3D::Line::intersect(const Box3D::Line&)': line-geometry.cpp:57: error: parse error before `;' token I was able to build 0.45.1 in this same environment, so this error is relatively new. The error seems to be caused when something is set to NR::Nothing. This example causes the same error: namespace NR { struct Nothing {}; }; void function() { void* junk = NR::Nothing; //<---- parse error } I played with this a bit, and found that the problem is not related to the namespace nor to the fact that the struct has no members. Does this sound familiar to anyone, or can anyone recommend a way (search terms) to find out more about this? Thanks!, John

Mingw-gcc 4.2.1

Hi, everyone, I just noticed that Danny Smith uploaded test versions of gcc-4.2.1 built for Mingw32. These are a bit more "official" than the builds that I uploaded, so anyone having trouble currently (like relocatability) might want to try these. https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2435 Look for "GCC Version 4," and we are currently using the "setjump/longjump" exception model (sjlj), so you would want these: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mingw/gcc-core-4.2.1-sjlj-1.tar.gz2 http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mingw/gcc-g%2B%2B-4.2.1-sjlj-1.tar.gz2 Hopefully Danny will soon let the Dwarf (dw) model be the default, but all of our libraries are built with sjlj, so if you use dw now, it won't link. bob

updating filters

hi, Nicholas! for some reason, some controls doesnt update automatically when applied to imported images. But they update on other kinds of objects. See for example, feColorMatrix. Juca PS: colormatrix values should be stored for each of the possible types. It is not good to store all of them in a single variable. It would be much better if the user could adjust the value for one type, then change type and readjust value, and then change its mind again (maybe feeling that the previous type and value were better) and when he selects back the previous type he should see the respective old value still there.

Scheme Scripting Console

We have developed a feature which allows Scheme Scripting from a console inside of Inkscape. We chose to implement a Scheme interpreter inside Inkscape because we felt higher-order programming and other functional paradigm ideas of Scheme would apply very nicely to a vector-based program such as Inkscape. The tar file included at the directory below contains a README with directions to aid in the process of installing the patch contained in the tar file. Let's talk about text

Hey, I don't know how many people saw this, but I thought it might be of general interest as it seems text is always an issue. Apparently there was a "text summit" in Glasgow as a part of aKademy. A report from the KDE folks: http://dot.kde.org/1186422013/ Which sounds interesting, but I hope we'll never have to directly deal with "languages not yet in Unicode." And, I think that Pango will do most of it for us. One of the links that I found interesting was to Fontima -- which is looking to define a font manager and widgets for the free desktop.
