WIN32 locale setting infiltrates Inkscape UI

Hi, Not sure if this is closely related to bug [ 1250581 ] "WIN32: Inkscape uses locale settings for determining UI lang" so I post it to the list. On an ENGLISH WinXP system with Russian locale set I get russian buttons in Inkscape dialogs (all the rest of Inkscape's UI is in English as it should). I post a screenshot of the bug attached to this mail. Is this an Inkscape bug, or a GTK one? Thanks! Molumen

Bug confirmation needed

Hi all, I've added two new categories 'NEEDS CONFIRMATION' and 'NEEDS CONFIRMATION ON SVN HEAD' to our bug tracker, and have begun marking a few bugs that need this. If you have a recent inkscape installation and are on either Win32 or OSX, you can help greatly by seeing if you can recreate these bugs. Please go to this page: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=93438&atid=604306 Search on Category = NEEDS CONFIRMATION ON SVN HEAD, and set the Group to the platform you're on. Also look in Groups 'Any' or 'All Platforms'. Try to recreate the problem, and then please write in the comment section if you could or could not reproduce the problem. Some of these are very, very old bugs, so just having people confirm that the bugs are no longer present would be extremely helpful in enabling us to focus on bugs that really need our attention. Tutorials

I notice in general that the tutorials in the SVN package do not correspond at all well to the current Inkscape feature set. We don't really have a tutorial for the more complicated features (cloning, clipping, masking, blurring) and tutorial-tips.svg explicitly mentions that we don't support blur yet. Attached is an SVG highlighting some of the effects that can be achieved using Inkscape 0.45. Perhaps something along these lines would be a useful thing to bundle? Dan

Inkscape and transient windows (on top dialogs)

Short introduction for the maillinglist: There is a discussion ongoing about transient dialogs (dialogs on top) in win32 builds of Inkscape. They do not work for current builds, but can be made to work with (afaik) only one drawback: when Inkscape's mainwindow is minimized while having a dialog on top, the mainwindow cannot simply be restored by clicking the taskbar button as this will give focus to the dialog that was opened. The dialog is not minimized when Inkscape is minimized which causes the problem. The mainwindow is restored by rightclicking the taskbar button and clicking on "Restore". The ongoing discussion is about how to solve this in a way that respects current standards. This mail is about a temporary solution that would greatly greatly greatly (I cannot stress enough) enhance Inkscape's useability.
