Can I Distribute ?

Hello Folks, I am confused by the GPL and issues like derivative software. I would like to distribute a bit of code to the public that produces an SVG image but I want to be able to rasterize the image for users unwilling or unable to read it with Firefox, IE/ASV or another agent. My thought was to include an unaltered Inkscape binary and use it's command-line to translate the SVG to PNG. Can I do this and credit the Inkscape development community, meet the terms of the GPL and keep my unrelated code private? Thanks, Tad

Fedora Core 3 is no more, Weeee!

Hello all, Thanks for the patience on the FC3 threads. Ya'll convinced me to shifty over to a new distro and I went to Kubuntu 6.06 yesterday. Have had some hell with merging home folders, but nothing too deadly. Imagine my horror to find that the latest inkscape in the apt repos is 0.43-something! The same one I had on FC3 :Mad spinny eye smiley here: So, I understood that ubuntu was kinda the dev distro (Windows aside) of choice, surely there must be debs of 0.44 by now? How do debs normally get to ubuntu repos? Is it a committee kinda thing, with a central scrutinizer or can you quickly update a package if you make a new deb? So, what's the best way for me to get ink 0.44 (official release vers) up and running on *ubuntu 6.06 ? Cos i'm really tired of Windows edging Linux out on it's own software! Best, Donn.

I think it's time we did a prerelease of 0.44.1; this will give us an opportunity to shake out any new issues, and give the translators an opportunity to get their work in before 0.44.1 final. I've updated the release notes on the wiki and bumped the version numbers in the 0.44 branch, but we still need to do the rest of the dist process and tag it all. Someone also needs to document on CreatingDists the process of getting the release notes into the NEWS file as well. Volunteers? -mental

Since the speed update, I've been able to work a lot faster at node editing than before (yay!), and I've found a few spots in the node/path handling code where NULL pointers are being dereferenced. I just committed a small change that increases the number of checks in those areas and fails with g_return_if_fail() if the pointers are NULL. Take care, John
