NEW: more viewBox support

As I intended to do for a long time, I just committed some more support for documents with viewBox attribute: If the root <svg> element of your document has width/height attributes set in percentage units _and_ there's a viewBox on that element, then: * The canvas size is set to the value of the viewBox attribute. * Changing the canvas size in Document Preferences sets viewBox, without touching the width/height values. So now you can visualize the viewBox by the canvas border and even adjust it easily. The only thing you cannot do is switch the document from the "regular type" (absolute-valued width/height, no viewbox) to the "viewbox type" (percentage-valued width/height, viewbox) or back. By default the "regular type" documents are created, as before. I can add such a switch if there's demand for it. When working on this I discovered that sp_root_write was never called and had lots of rotten code and bugs. I fixed what I could, and it is now used at least when you update document width/height. So please watch for the correctness of the root <svg> in your documents after saving, there may be bugs lurking still. -- bulia byak Inkscape. Draw Freely. http://www.inkscape.org

Inkscape Status Aug 15th

The days since the 0.42 release have been busy with much activity. The mailing lists have surged with traffic, we're seeing magazines printing articles for Inkscape, lots of new code is going into the development tree, and a new 0.42.1 bugfix release is nearing completion. There's been some very interesting discussions both on and off list; it'll be quite interesting to see how the remainder of the year turns out. </p> <p> The Google Summer of Code projects are bubbling right along. Working with nodepath

I think I'm pretty close to a working patch for adding a node on click. Thus far all the difficult code I needed was already in the codebase somewhere. bbyak got me started; cyreve helped me find things (both much more patiently than necessary). I currently have this: on clicking a path I can calculate the segment to break and t along that segment. The segment is represented by the index of the node on the far side of the segment. First node is 0. When I hook up code to add the node to nodepath the new segment ends up in strange places. I think I need help understanding how to work with a nodepath. The patch in its current broken state can be found at <http://www.ekips.org/comp/inkscape/inx/nodeadd.diff>. I'm sure there are a bunch of C++ problems to clean up and redesigns necessary before it is ready to commit and I'm ready for that but right now I'm just frustrated with not understanding why the nodes go where they do. Hi Ali, Yes, this is quite fine, and allowed under our license. Please let me know if you have any questions on this. We are going to soon be releasing a new version 0.42.1; I don't know exactly when this will be ready but if your schedule allows for it, I would highly recommend using that version instead of 0.42. 0.42.1 contains a number of critical bug fixes found by various users of 0.42. Updated win32 libs

Hi, all, I just updated the win32 libs, which are found here: http://inkscape.org/win32/ It is this file: http://inkscape.org/win32/gtk28-050819.7z This might need tweaking in the future, but it makes nice running Inkscape builds already. I updated Makefile.mingw and Makefile.mingw.common to use this bundle. The 'dist' target now copies an additional two files: $(CP) $(GTKDOS)$(S)bin$(S)libcairo-2.dll inkscape $(CP) $(GTKDOS)$(S)bin$(S)libpangocairo-1.0-0.dll inkscape Yes, that's -CAIRO-. Yaay!! I also edited the build notes, replacing the '6' with an '8'. It now unpacks to c:\gtk28. Or, on the cross-compiler, you will want to change your symlink: ln -sf /home/user/PROJECT/gtk28 /target Bob (ishmal)

Enter and leave events while mouse button depressed

Hi, As part of my connector work, I have made a change to the type of context item events generated while the left mouse button is depressed. Previously, while this button was pressed, only enter and leave events for the 'clicked' object would be generated. There doesn't seem to be any particular reason for this, and it severly complicated some of the stuff I was doing. Thus, I have modified it to no longer supress these events. This only effects the events passed to the item handlers in the different tool contexts and shouldn't change the behaviour of manipulation in these tools since most of it is done with knots. Knots are actual objects that hold the mouse focus while they are dragged, so these item entry/leave events aren't generated here anyway. Also, the item handlers in most of the contexts do very little (i.e., change cursors) or just aren't used. Basically, this change *should* be transparent. I've tested the behaviour of all the tools and can't see any difference, but wanted to mention it here just in case it does cause any problems. The change is only to src/display/sp-canvas.cpp, between revisions 1.14 and r1.15. Cheers, Michael

New Connector tool context

Hello, I have commited the connector context to CVS. At the moment it can be used to create basic straight-line connectors and interact with and modify existing connectors, i.e., reroute, detach, or attach to new shapes. At the moment connectors can just be attached to the center of shapes (though user placeable connection points are something I will work on later). This interface works works with loading and saving files, undo and redo, etc. Click and drag anywhere to create a connector. If you start or finish over a highlighted connection point, then the connector will be attached to that shape. Dragging the endpoint of any existing connector will alter its endpoint, and attach to a shape if dropped on a connection point. It is usable, but there are some issues. Partly this is because I originally chose to build it on top of the DrawContext and having that underneath is now preventing the exact interaction I want. I've done most of the work of removing this dependency but will finish it later. The current interaction doesn't use the standard selection mechanism. One of the choices I made was that I didn't want the user to have to select a shape to show its connection point, select another for the same reason, and then have to click or drag between the two shapes to draw the actual connector. For this reason the connection points for shapes are shown when the mouse is moved over them. Play with this for a while and I think you'll find it quite natural. At the moment though, due to the draw context stuff, the same behaviour is true for the actual connectors -- they are 'selected' by moving the mouse over them. This is bad since the connector focus jumps around as you move your mouse over different connectors. The true selection mechanism is ignored and the selection cleared when the context is entered. Also bad. The planned solution is to use the standard selection mechanism and show endpoints for the first selected connector, much like the node tool. This means the same selection will be maintained swapping into and out of the connector context. Also, if you've just drawn a connector and want to change its stroke style, another connector isn't going to be selected on your way to the dialog, as Peter pointed out to me today. The mouseover displays connection point behaviour will be kept for shapes but will be completely independant of the selection. Anyway, I thought it important to commit this now, even though I'd love to perfect the interface a little more before showing it off. It's already suffered a fair amount of slippage due to many little unforeseen issues, and my complete ignorance for the complexity of the Inkscape internals. :-) Plus, I feel its important to focus on the integration of the autorouting code, the other main 'goal' of my Summer of Code application. Comments and bug reports welcome! (The src/connector-context.cpp file contains my rough todo list, e.g., I've done some work towards drawing connectors to object edges rather than bounding boxes, but this isn't there yet.) No, sorry, I didn't realize that is what you wanted. The selected nodes are only really known by the node tool. But, it isn't impossible that they could be exported on a call to an extension. Here's what I got from SF admins regarding our wiki. Can someone please do what they tell us to do, i.e. move the wiki data to a writeable location? Our wiki is totally read-only until it's done (and has been for several days already). Inkboard on win32

For the people integrating Inkboard into Inkscape: please put back the commit from last week where the default build does not include the Inkboard files. We really cannot have the default build include those files until it builds flawlessly for everyone everywhere. "Works for me" isn't the same thing. Thanks. (By the way, it looks really good.
