I'm happy with what I've seen so far with pre3. A few small patches were added and several translation updates. Beyond that, I think all of the "issues" have been packaging. Ted, unless anyone objects, I'd say it's time for the official 0.42 tgz. (Just be sure you see the "inkscape_version.h.mingw" update I added to the "MakingDists" wiki) -- Kees Cook @outflux.net

confusion on the mandriva bug

Hi, I posted a bug in the bug tracker few hours ago and it seems that there has been confusion with the post of Lucas Vieites. We are not the same person, but we have (almost) the same bug ! And the same system (Mandriva LE 2005)... Personally, my crash is the following : __________________________________________________ /usr/bin/.proxy.inkscape: /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/bin/.proxy.inkscape) Emergency save activated! Emergency save completed. Inkscape will close now. If you can reproduce this crash, please file a bug at www.inkscape.org with a detailed description of the steps leading to the crash, so we can fix it. Proposed plan for 0.43 development

Hi all, As the release of 0.42 nears, I haven't been able to help thinking about what we should do for the next release. I'd like to throw some thoughts out for comment. I think we're all ready for a bit faster release cycle. 0.43 really took a bit too long. Partly that's because we wanted a nice long development cycle, but mostly because we had some extremely ambitious goals. This release, though, the goals are more modest (and already mostly done). As well, we have four Google Summer of Code students producing code, and I think it would serve their learning process (and our own ability to review the code and give them feedback) if they can start getting their code drops out to the Inkscape audience. Thus, I'd like to propose that for at least 0.43 and 0.44 that we shoot for something on the order of a month each: 3 weeks development 2 weeks feature freeze - stabilization / bugfix ~1 week hard freeze release repeat As far as specific development goals, I think we should just set the one goal of having some working code from each of the SoC students, (plus whatever else gets done by others). Some of the students may need our assistance in learning how to integrate code, test it, fix bugs, and so forth. (The originally planned goal of the 0.43 release was to work out how to do extensions, which thanks to hard work by Ted, ACSpike, and others, is already fairly well in the bag.) Anyway, let me know your thoughts on the above, and if it sounds acceptable, we can start on this plan of action as soon as the release of 0.42 is complete! :-) Bryce

What distribution are you using? My guess is that you are using Debian Unstable and that this crash is caused by the currently inprogress switchover to gcc 4.0. Inkscape release schedule: Sunday?

How about we release on Sunday if no serious bugs are found? There is going to be no end of trouble on Debian unstable, but that's because the C++ libraries haven't been recompiled yet. However, this is "not our problem". ITEMS - About screen is "too big". If we don't get this solved, it's not a show-stopper, but it'd be nice. - Win98 crash. No immediate progress, small portion of user base, so it's not a show-stopper, but would be nice to fix. - Static .deb. It'd be nice to have something for the Debian unstable folks to test with. Not a show-stopper, I don't think, since it's fine on Ubuntu Hoary and Debian Sarge. -- Kees Cook @outflux.net

Inkscape on Mac problems

My gf. tried to use Inkscape on her new imac with os x tiger and jpeg files (and probably others) can not be opened or imported. Michael, is this a quick library fix, or should I file a bug.
