Now back to the text copying discussion. Everything was going fine for quite some time. Now I find that there are a few paragraphs in the advanced tutorial and in the tracing tutorial that I just can't copy. In tracing I cannot copy "the user will see the three filter options" to the end. In advanced I cannot copy the final three paragraphs of the editing paths section. Is it just me? Aaron Spike

The problem here is that there is something fundamental that I don't understand about using the clipboard on Linux. When I used paste in the xterm's edit menu it worked fine. I uploaded shapes.tar.gz to the patch tracker. If there are no objections, I will now start on the Advanced tutorial. I am not a very proficient typist. So if someone would like to do the text work, I would be more than happy to do the graphics. Otherwise I will work through each tutorial in its entirety. Aaron Spike

Wiki style breakage

The recent changes (edit 303 of the main page) to the Wiki made it 'break' for me. Basically, the page no longer plays nice with narrow windows. http://inkscape.org/wiki_uploads/WikiAtWork.png Remember, many people don't browse with windows maximized. It's well known in the print world that landscape mode is not conducive to reading (which is why magazines, books, newspapers, etc. avoid it). So be sure to check any style changes with windows both ways. Thanks.

Maybe, but this does not make much sense. The idea of the illustrations is that they are interactive - you can drag or tweak anything in a tutorial. Since HTML loses the interactivity anyway, SVG is not any better for illustrations in HTML than PNG. The HTML is mainly intended for printing or away-from-Inkscape reading. -- bulia byak Inkscape. WordPress location changed

Hi everyone, FYI, by request of Jon Phillips, I have moved the WordPress code to the subdirectory wp/. This is good because the base directory is now a lot cleaner. Generally, in SVG you cannot rely just on the attributes of the element itself; you need to take into account the transforms of all its ancestors because they all affect that element. That's why extracting dimensions from SVG is a nontrivial task, and that's why I added the --query command line options to make this accessible for script/extension writers. If you query that rect by Inkscape you get the correct width: $ inkscape layer_demo.svg --query-width --query-id ONEandTWO 769.54902 i.e. the same as it has when rendered on screen. -- bulia byak Inkscape. new svgslice release

Hi all, Just a note to say that svgslice has been updated: http://www.digitalunleashed.com/downloads/svgslice/svgslice_0.12.tar.bz2 No inkscape extension yet (I'm working on that next) but it does fix a few bugs, in case anyone has been struggling with it. There are four demo files included, and the coordinates of the slicing in the last one are incorrect. The problem seems to be that Inkscape doesn't respect the units you select in the toolbar for rectangles, but perhaps I'm misunderstanding something there. Currently, I'm not handling unit conversion, and the different inkscape unit options (document, grid, etc.) all have to be set to the same units. I'm sure there's some unit I could treat this as and then convert, but it looks like a bug, since it's in different units from everything else, and seems to resist change. Anyway, if anyone feels like playing around, I'd appreciate any hints you might have on that issue. -- Lee Braiden http://www.DigitalUnleashed.com

Autogui isn't fully functional yet, so I don't know if it should be put in a screenshot. If you want to put these effects into CVS it is fine by me. I will continue tweaking these and adding more effects as ideas come to me. As long as CVS gets a fresh copy occasionlly, I think it would be great. Here is a direct link to the archive on my website. http://www.ekips.org/comp/inkscape/inx/inkex_latest.tar.gz There are, however, probably a few reasons to hold off. I haven't figured out how to write an inx file that works on Windows and Linux. So as they are the effects only work on Linux. I'm not sure exactly what is required for the scripts to run, at least Python and PyXML. If extensions are by definition optional, you might not want to include them directly. Aaron Spike

Greetings to all the Inkscape development community ! We are a team of 7 students from a Grande Ecole of engineering in France (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne). As part of a school project, we are to develop a software which converts SVG files to PostScript. After looking for and testing different solutions, we figured out that Inkscape was our favorite to do this job. Nevertheless, Inkscape does not come up to all our expectations. Therefore, we would like to do some improvements which could benefit the whole community of Inkscape users. First of all, we wish to improve the management of fonts in the conversion process. In addition, we intend to add backup for transparency and superimposing in the export to PS (likely the way of Adobe Illustrator). Eventually, if not short of time then, we could focus on enhancing the Inkscape command-line interface (in the idea of processing many files in a row (batch process)). Now, here we go : if anyone around has already worked on these issues, and is ready to communicate with us, so that we might start on a firm and good foundation, we are more ready than ever to listen to everything you've got : information, advice, tips, whatever.
