Hi list, Thanks to the help of Michael Wybrow who made the process really easy I have a development binary of inkscape for mac os X build from last CVS snapshot. Here is what is activated at the end of the compilation process. Is it OK or do you want gnome-print and gnome-vfs? Configuration: Source code location: . Destination path prefix: /Volumes/files/softwares/inkscape_compiled/ Compiler: g++ CPPFLAGS: -I/sw/include -O3 -Wall CXXFLAGS: -Wall -W -Wpointer-arith -Wcast-align -Wsign-compare -Woverloaded-virtual -Wswitch -Wno-unused-parameter -I/sw/include -O3 -Wall CFLAGS: -Wall -W -I/sw/include -O3 -Wall LDFLAGS: -L/sw/lib Use Xft font database: yes Use gnome-print: no Use gnome-vfs: no Use openoffice files: yes Use MMX optimizations: no Use relocation support: no Use Python extensions: skipped Use Perl extensions: skipped Enable Inkboard: no If this is ok, where should I put it now? I have no space to host it myself. If this proves to be useful I plan on making such a build on a weekly basis. Exposing low-level errors to user?

Hi, should we expose low-level errors such as this example here to users?: #: ../src/jabber_whiteboard/message-utilities.cpp:168 msgid "" "ID for new object is NULL even after generation and lookup attempts: the new " "object will NOT be sent, nor will any of its child objects!" I don't think the intended audience can make any use of this. If this is just meant for debugging, then please don't mark it as translatable. Also, there are some string like this: "%1 has invited you to a " "whiteboard session.\n" Please split the string so that only the part inside the is marked up translatable, i.e. "%1 has invited you to a "whiteboard session." Compiling problem on win32

This is too bizarre... with fresh CVS, the newest libs, and a new install of mingw that's all up to date (fresh install, not upgrade), I am unable compile. I have everything in default locations so I am sure that is not the issue. It appears that it might be translation related since it references i18n stuff, but I could be mistaken. print direct menue not default

Hi , in the current CVS version I miss the print-direct function, is it only a wrong default in meues.xml ? When I delete all my personal settings and restart Inkscape I miss this menue. The print function is there. I would expect to have all possible menues in the default. I know there was a thread about this. What is the curent status ? Thx, Adib.

Peter, This Beta was issued in July. The final 0.4 release will include the last Inkscape release. I hope to release it this month (I've still a lot of work with the Google Summer of Code students...) I notice in yesterday's announcement of WinLibre 0.4.0 beta1 (http://www.winlibre.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=323) that it includes inkscape 0.41. You might consider doing something to save yourself from a barrage of "Inkscape gives this nasty error about missing dependencies" questions. One way of addressing this would of course be to switch to 0.42.2 :) . Are there any issues in 0.42.2 (not present in 0.41) that you'd like to tell us? Is the exclusion of 0.42.2 just because you haven't had enough time to test it (and there were some windows problems in the original 0.42), or is there something else? pjrm.

Pierre-Jean, tu peux voir les réponses à http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=36054 si tu veux, et tu peux me répondre si tu veux que je fasse suivre à inkscape-devel.] Every now and again, we come across packaging problems on Windows, and we say "It would be good to be able to hand these problems off to distributors, as we do for a number of un*x distributions", or "Someone should create a windows package consisting of inkscape, gimp, and perhaps other gtk software, so that they can share libraries." I've just today discovered WinLibre, which does this: http://www.winlibre.com/en/index.php It comes in two variants: a 650kB version that allows you to select which components you want (like a net install of a gnu/linux distribution), or a 171MB version suitable for putting on a CD. However, I don't yet know to what extent WinLibre engages in packaging activities: i.e. do they just grab the Windows binary that we provide, or do they get the source so that they can share libraries between the programs ? (If it gives any clues, the News page mentions handling package dependencies, and that it uses InnoSetup 5.0.) Is there anything we can do to work more closely with WinLibre ? (Another compilation of Free Software for Windows is http://www.theopencd.org/. It has a good reputation, but it doesn't yet include Inkscape, and my impression from a couple of minutes at their web site is that they just use the binaries provided by individual projects rather than do much packaging/integration work themselves. As I say, that's just an impression that may well be wrong.) pjrm.

multiple selection and transform

Hi list, I would like to gather opinions about a particular usability point of inkscape and maybe suggest a change in the way transformations are applied. When selecting multiple objects and applying any transformation, they are treated as a whole. For example a rotation would rotation all objects around the center of their combination. I think it might be better to apply the same transformation to each object (and rotate each one around it's own center). Indeed, if you want to treat these objects as a whole you already have the possibility of grouping them (which is only one click), applying the transformation and then, possibly, degroup them if you want to further edit each object. On the other hand, let say you want to rotate at 45° twenty horizontal text items around their centers you will have to apply 20 times the same transformation. In addition, consider you want to rotate multiple selected object of 90°, there is at present an "inconsistency" in the transformations: objects are treated as a whole when rotating them with the transform palette but each object is rotated individually when using the "rotate by 90°" buttons of the GUI. More bugs with stroke

Just a few more bugs to report with the stroke dialog: 1) on a circle, the stroke width value spin button only increases even when trying to spin down. 2) End Markers a) for a line pointing to 8:00, the start/end marker is reversed, and then won't change b) at times the end marker popup does not display all the choices, or when you select one, it jumps to another. I would rank these as medium level bugs.

Of course you can change both colors and transparency of both ends of gradient (and of additional stops in between, though this is currently less intuitive than it should be). For example in Gradient tool select the bottom handle, open Fill&Stroke or Swatches and assign green color with no transparency to that handle. - Do we activate the Effects menu in 0.43? I think we should. - Did we find a volunteer to do static RPMs? The need for them is definitely there. - Michael, what of your TODO for the connector tool may be ready for the 0.43?
