svg fonts dialog
by Alexandre Prokoudine
Hi again,
I know you'll get tired of me soon :)
Do we know exactly which combination of Cairo and Inkscape makes SVG
Fonts dialog working? If we do, should we mention that in Release
Notes and INSTALL?
If we keep SVG Fonts for 0.47, could we please have a little more
verbose UI? At least mentioning which way exactly of entering Unicode
value of a glyph, and a spinbox for precise setting of kerning.

Snaps of icon issues
by Jon A. Cruz
Since not everyone was seeing problems with the external icon loading, I
grabbed a few screenshots to add to the wiki to illustrate them.
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Icons#Issues
I do have a handle on fixing those, but if others see different issues
please feel free to add at least a text description of the problem.
Thanks.

about screen contest: woah!
by unknown@example.com
Woah!!!
I just had a look at the about screen contest
(http://inkscapers.deviantart.com/journal/24582792) and....
WOAAAAAHHHH... It is absolutely amazing what people have made. There are
many many many drawings that I like.
Great work all of you who submitted something!!
(It's cool that quite a few people tried to visualize "refactoring"
too.)

Compiling Inkscape 0.46...No Imagemagick found
by heathenx
I posted to the Inkscape User list yesterday regarding missing raster effects from the effects menu
(If it appears like I've cross-posted I apologize) but I'm not sure the User list was the
appropriate place afterall. Doing some investigative work I figured I would uninstall Inkscape 0.46
on my Ubuntu 9.04 box and compile it from scratch. I noticed that when I run the ./configure it will
not find Imagemagick even though I have it installed along with the development package for it.
Perhaps this is what is preventing the raster effects from being displayed in the effects menu. Some
of you that are running Ubuntu 9.04...have you noticed any of these issues? I'm not exactly sure
what I need to do detect Imagemagick.
I have not compiled the stable version of Inkscape before. I get that straight from the repos along
with all of the other Inkscape dependencies. As a side note I have compiled a recent snapshot of
0.46+devel and the raster effects do display but none of them are working. I would appreciate any
help. I'll keep plugging away in the meantime. :)

Miter Dynamic Offset
by Krzysztof Kosiński
I'm frequently using the dynamic offset to add a thick contour around the
drawing. Problem is, it looks awful when the drawing has sharp edges. Would
it be hard to create other types of dynamic offset, e.g. miter dynamic
offset (which would look like the outer edge of a miter stroke)?
Of course this is an idea for the future, because right now we need to
concentrate on bugfixing :)
Regards, Krzysztof Kosiński

Summer of Code has officially started!
by Joshua A. Andler
Hey all,
Today is the day that the students should begin their coding according
to the official timeline. Given this, I just wanted to wish good luck to
this year's students and mentors for SoC 2009!
Mentors, since there was no decision made about this, you need to decide
how the student's work will be committed (given that we are working
towards a release).
Whatever the mentors (and their students) decide on this issue will be
fine, the only rule for now is DO NOT COMMIT SOC WORK TO TRUNK until it
opens for regular development again. :)
Cheers,
Josh

GSoC Inkscape API project
by Jon A. Cruz
Hi Soren,
At this past LGM I had a chance to discuss several of the GSoC
projects with helpful people, including Chris Lilley (of the SVG
Working Group). I'd explained my thoughts that what we added should
be focused on exposing DOM, first for the SVG itself, then
additionally for the UI, since among other things that presents a
potential plugin/extension author with a single unified interface/
approach to have to worry about.
Exposing things via XPath functions, and DOM events stays in that
same paradigm. It also allows us to have a simple way to expose
things eventually though JavaScript (but also others). Focusing on
DOM, DOM Events and XPath would give a simple paradigm that is
familiar to designers, especially since they are taught DOM and
JavaScript DOM manipulation in college nowadays.
Anyway, once I had expressed that in my opinion that would be a good
route to focus on I mentioned that you said you would be considering
that among other approaches. Chris then responded basically with
"Consider? Why would they do anything else?" We had a bit of a follow-
up, but the general result was a consensus that building our API
around DOM will give Inkscape the best long-term benefits.
I just wanted to be sure to get that mentioned before you jump full-
speed into GSoC now, since it is time.
Again, good luck,
Jon.

auto swatches
by Alexandre Prokoudine
Hi,
Since 0.47 is really close now, it would be great to have decision if
the new auto swatches palette can make it. Jon, this is primarily for
you :)
Currently there are at least two bugs (1) no auto update for swatch,
2) "Auto" is not marked for translation) and the whole feature doesn't
work quite as expected. For instance, anticipated flat fills are
created as linear gradient elements (the old dialog we were supposed
to get rid of is used for that too).
Is there any work definitely planned to iron this out before we hit hard freeze?

giomm again
by bulia byak
Someone has added giomm to configure.ac again. This fails on Ubuntu
6.06. It was added before but then removed. Without it, Inkscape
compiles just fine on 6.06. Can we please remove it again?
