Object Module

Hello Manuel, If I understand you correctly, what you want to achieve is some kind of object management tool in which you can select objects by their ID tag and do things with them, like change attributes or style, rename them, walk the object tree by expanding it, add events, etc. If it is anything like the object manager you can find in Coreldraw for instance I think that would be a great addition. It could also serve as an alternative display for the XML editor that displays the file structure and nested objects by tag name rather than ID. It would be nice if for instance you could select an object (such as a group) by ID (using a filter for instance with reg exp. or part of the ID name) and then have them show as selected in the drawing on the canvas. It would also allow for objects in the defs to be found more easily and maybe bring them to the body by just dragging them. It would also make for an interesting option if for instance filters, gradients and fills in the defs could be displayed in a list with a simple representation. Using the symbol tool for example code would show how to create the displays of those. Filters probably being the more difficult as they won't display anything without a background, so for each of those a primitive background would need to be defined. If that could be extended with an option to open an external file next to it as to drag and drop elements by either <use> or copy to the file being edited, you'd have created a real power tool. Hi, I just suscribed to the mailing-list because it's been a long time I 'd like to contribute to Inkscape but I don't know exacty how to proceed and what to do. I have skills in programmation, but I never studied such a large project and so I feel completely lost when I browse the source files for example. So I'd like to know what is the recommended way to discover Inkscape organisation. Is it helpfull to begin with plugin development or is it so different than it will not help me understanding the code structure ? Are there simple little tasks that I could try to achieve in order to get more familiar with it ? Tasks that would not require a complete understanding of the entire code. But I can also help in other way than patching the core soft, with some web dev or translation. I suscribed to the translator mailing-list too but I don't know exactly how it works, how to find what to translate, etc. For example the new next-release page has obviously not been translated in French (which is my mother language) but what am I supposed to do if I want to translate it ? Please excuse me if I just missed the place where all this information can be found ! Best regards, Elie

what I would like is to add modules that allow you to work on something specific, in this case draw outside plant telephone, which allows you to draw lines, utility poles, booths, terminals, etc.. But these are already established in INKSCAPE. As such I would like to remove a cable, then I click on the function and the cable I want to delete. This is possible, but would like to know what you think and if you are agree to add these features. Tranks you!!!

Reporting build Issues

Is it worthwhile reporting building issues against the latest launchpad (thanks to Josh Andler for pointing it out to me) tarballs or simply wait for the next revision hoping it's fixed? Warnings check

Hi all, I'd like people to check what compiler errors are reported for trunk on their system (Windows I can do myself), with these flags: -Wall -Wformat -Werror=format-security -W -Wpointer-arith -Wcast-align -Wsign-compare -Woverloaded-virtual -Werror=switch -Werror=return-type -Werror -Wno-error=pointer-sign -Wno-error=unused-parameter -Wno-error=unused-but-set-variable -Wno-error=strict-overflow -Wno-error=write-strings -Wno-error=format -Wno-error=format-extra-args Please no comments about whether you like these flags or not, just what build *errors* you get. XML duplicate document

Hey devs, In fixing bug lp:419266 I noticed that we don't have a document node duplicate function that returns a document. Running duplicate on a document node at the moment will return a normal node (and requires a document as input, which explodes if you try and do anything with it) My attempts at adding a document duplicate function have failed. I just don't know enough about C++ inheritence which is used extensively between Node, SimpleNode and Document, SimpleDocument. If you do know this, I think it should be a quick addition and it would help clear up another bug (1059244) if you could add this function to our xml code.
