Duplicating objects in a Python extension

Hi all, Given a selected object (e.g. firstObject = self.selected[self.options.ids[0]]) in a Python extension, how can I duplicate it? I've checked a couple of code snippets (e.g. pathscatter.py as well as some online content) and stumbled upon copy.deepcopy(...) and append() for layers, but I don't have it working properly yet. Usually, I add a new object (e.g. a path) using newObject = inkex.etree.SubElement(self.current_layer, inkex.addNS('path','svg'), pathAttribs), where pathAttribs has been defined before. Can I add the duplicated object in a similar way? When I substitute 'pathAttribs' with 'firstObject' or a deepcopy() of it, I get the following FutureWarning — FutureWarning: The behavior of this method will change in future versions. Use specific 'len(elem)' or 'elem is not None' test instead. newObject = inkex.etree.SubElement(self.current_layer, inkex.addNS('path','svg'), firstObject) As an exercise I'm trying to write an extension that generates a circular array of a selected (path) object. The approach could be to first duplicate the object and subsequently transform it (i.e. rotate and possibly translate) using simpletransform.composeTransform () and simpletransform.applyTransformToPath(). As a follow-up question, is it possible to clone an object from within a Python extension? With 'clone' I mean the operation that's available in Inkscape through Edit → Clone → Create Clone. Thanks! Python coder needed for simple Launchpad/Gitlab metrics tools

Hi all, I've got a little scripting project for someone interested in exercising their python skills for Inkscape over the next couple weeks. It involves collecting data about bug reports via the Launchpad API, and a similar tool using the Gitlab API. One tool will use Launchpad's API to get data about bugs (age, # comments, length of description, etc.) and calculate a score. We essentially want to measure the "triaging difficulty" of each bug. The other tool will use Gitlab's API to detect bugs that have been moved from Launchpad, what the LP bug # was, and the person that did the triaging work. It also does some simple quality checks on the ported bug - presence of tags, length of bug description, is the bug description in valid markdown format, etc. If this sounds interesting, let me or Chris Rogers know and we can fill you in a few more details and help you get going. About knots selection

Hi, I was looking into fixing https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1707919 and, after compiling a recent Inkscape version I noticed that the behavior of knot changed wrt. selection and dragging compared to 0.92.x. After some research on the mailing list I found the change mentioned here: https://inkscape.org/en/news/2017/07/12/what-happened-hackfest-2017/ I can see the benefit of keeping knots selected to be able to move them with the keyboard but I still find the new behavior a little unintuitive, at lest for shape editing: 1. The colors of the mouse-over and selected states are the same, maybe the coloring scheme of node paths can be copied: where mouse-over color is different from the selected and dragging colors which are the same. 2. Previously selected knots look still selected when _another_ knot is dragged without pressing Shift. Steps to replicate: 1. Change size of a rect using one corner. 2. Then change the size using the opposite corner. The firs corner looks still selected. 3. Shift-click does not really select arc knots for ellipses, or rounding knots for rects, because this action is already used for something else, e.g. to close the arc instead. Would it be possible to use Ctrl-Shift-click for the current function and leave Shift-click for the normal select behavior? IMHO this would be more consistent. 4. Dragging with the mouse only affects the last selected knot, even if multiple ones are selected, but this is not a big deal, the behavior is different compared to path nodes, but both make sense IMHO. I'll resume working on https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1707919 after the details from above are sorted out, to avoid overlapping problems. Thanks, Antonio P.S. When verifying 1. Problems attempting to compile inkscape-0.92.3 for Mac using Mojave (REPOST)

I received no replies regarding this issue the first time I posted this so I’m trying again. I followed the directions in /inkscape-0.92.3/packaging/macosx/README.txt The last step "LIBPREFIX="$MP_PREFIX" ./osx-build.sh a c b -j 5 i p -s d” returned the following error messages at the end of the output Configure failed Package requirements (cairomm-1.0 >= 1.9.8 glibmm-2.4 >= 2.28 giomm-2.4 sigc++-2.0 >= 2.0.12 ) were not met: No package 'cairomm-1.0' found No package 'glibmm-2.4' found No package 'giomm-2.4' found No package 'sigc++-2.0’ found I captured all of the output to a file if it would help for me to post it somewhere. How do I fix this?

Using center of rotation in Python extension

Font attributes not available in Inkscape

Hi Often after designing a font with FontForge the attributes (Italic, Bold or others) are available in LibreOffice or Scribus but not in Inkscape (even in latest Trunk releases). And sometimes it happens to commercial fonts too. Is that a naming question ? And what is absolutely needed to make the attributes available in Inkscape ? Thanks in advance, ivan

Default Palette

Dear devs, I've had some complaints that Inkscape's default palette isn't that welcoming to new users. It's too harsh and varied. A number of users have asked me personally why we don't use the Tango palette as our default palette and move Inkscape default to a new name. I don't actually know which palette would be the best to have as the default. Would a poll be a useful way to find out? To aid, I've committed a soc2gpl script so we can have a look at LibreOffice palettes for comparison. Best Regards, Martin Owens

Python scripting support (work in progress)

Hello, I've been playing around with adding Python support to Inkscape for some time. In contrast to the current extension system that runs the interpreter externally, this allows to use Inkscape functionality via Python code. Progress has been slow, since I am new to mostly anything necessary to implement it (C++, CMake, GTK, git, even Python). I decided to do the implementation manually (without SWIG, Boost.Python, etc.) since there's already enough new stuff for me to deal with. At the current state, there is not much to show, but some of the infrastructure is in place: * Inkscape-integrated Python console with basic command history and limited coloring (different colors for log messages, input, output and errors) * A pane to select Python files and run them * A rudimentary set of bindings: * Arbitrary Inkscape verbs can be run * Files can be opened * Files can be saved. Selecting the output file type on basis of a MIME type, i.e., export to other file types than .svg is supported, but the user interaction dialog for the export settings pops up. * PNG export * Listing and activating desktops (open files) * Running Python scripts from the command line is possible, although only in non-GUI mode for now. Since the basics are working I decided it would be a good point to share the code and check if you think this is a direction worth pursuing. Especially, since some design decisions that should be discussed beforehand are ahead. Please let me know how to submit the code. Dear Developers, Translators and affable Users of Inkscape, The Inkscape website at inkscape.org will be down for upgrades soon. This is dependent on when bryce is available for DNS change over. The process involves moving the website to the new CentOS 7.6 server from OSUOSL which is now setup, you can reach this new server by manually setting your /etc/hosts for inkscape.org to 140.211.9.79 and visiting https://inkscape.org Everyone is invited to visit the new site, it looks exactly like the old one. To see if it's still working correctly. It now uses python3 and django 1.11, so there's quite an upgrade planned for all the tech. But so far it's holding steady. Help Needed: Memory/address problems

Dear Devs, In a clean up on gradient/sp-stop code[1] I've gotten it all working, but for the style-test program itself which crashes with a stack guard error "stack smashing error". The problem only appears if you compile with `-fstack-protector` which is default ON for Ubuntu, but is not for windows and other OSes. I attempted to use Valgrind (with --tool=exp-sgcheck) but that crashed too. Possibly because of the stack-protector which I can't seem to turn off. I wanted to also try `-fsanitize=address` to winkle out the problem, but I have no idea where to add CFLAGS in CMake/ninja. So without being able to try other build options, I'm very lost. Hi, I'd like to add this scheme to the wiki: http://www.thomas-holder.de/tmp/inkscape-frames-of-reference.svg However, uploading SVG is not permitted, I'm getting this error: "Upload warning: .svg is not a permitted file type. Permitted file types are png, gif, jpg, jpeg." I've found two wiki pages which address coordinate systems: - http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/CoordinateSystems Old (2005), but mostly correct - http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/UI_and_Document_coordinates This one is linked from the Main page but was deleted!? "Perspective path" LPE

Hi, Does anyone know how the "Perspective path" LPE is supposed to work? Is it functional? I already asked Jabier, but he also doesn't know. I'm asking because it uses hard coded desktop coordinates that I would fix if I knew how to test it. This LPE is in the LPE_ENABLE_TEST_EFFECTS section. Location path for an imported figure

Dear All, I am finding `Inkscape` a really good tool for importing `PDF` or `EPS` scientific plots into a blank page, and then place arrows on top of the graphs, text, make scientific drawings assemble them in the desired location and then save as a unique PDF page that can then be included as a unique `figure` in a `latex` document. Let's imagine an inkscape project that has assembled 10 plots, imported from these folders: /path1/plot_1.pdf /path2/plot_2.pdf ... /path10/plot_10.pdf We already know that in /path1/ there is also the python, gnuplot, etc source code that produces the PDF plot, for instance: /path1/plot_1.py /path2/plot_2.gnu etc Most of the times I need to continue working over the original PDF plots that I once imported into a inkscape project I made back in time. For example, change the scale and the title of the plots, and so on. In other words, I need to go to the original source code (gnuplot, python, etc) that produces those plots that have been assembled in the inkscape project. In these situations, while having the nice inkscape project in the screen with all the plots 1 to 10, it is quite hard to remember where is the location of the original PDF plot. As far as I am concerned, there is no option in the inkscape interface that allows you to know which is the original location path of the PDF plot that was once imported into the inkscape project. The closest solution I could find is the following: every time I import a new PDF of EPS, I right click and and create a link which is basically a copy-paste of the location path of the figure. This solution is quite tedious and most of the times one forgets to create the link. Once the image is imported, the next natural step is to resize it and locate in the desired place, and it is very easy to forget to create the link. For instance, if this multi PDF plots assemble project was made in Latex, the location path of all the plots would be perfectly identified, i.e. in the `\includegraphics` line. I was wondering if it is possible to check an option in the importing process that would allow to automatically write the location path of the figure somewhere. Or any other strategy that would automatically write the location path every time a plot is imported. Would this be difficult to implement ? Thanks a lot for all your help, All the best, David
