Happy New year Inkscape, This is the first Developer meeting of 2025 and we spent almost two hours going through lots of different topics: Event: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/1/ Attending: Martin, Elendil, Ishaan, ScislaC, Vaibhav, Tav Next: Jan 10th 2025, later meeting time. Organise an event in India? There's enough people in that part of the world to have people meet and pay for travel and hosting. There are FOSS events and Ishaan tried to organise an event but asking in Vectors but no one was interested. Martin suggested making community with other Asian contributors directly. India is a big country alone and travel can be longer than expected. Three hour flight to Bangalor from Dehli. Martin advises to get in touch with the plc when plans are known and we'd put together a funding. Elendil shared the contributors map from 2023 from where everyone was as an example for how spread out the contributor community is. Vaibhav and Martin talked about using the caps, scroll lock key. We talked about the comments and how we'd run a user experience study on the ideas and using them as modifiers in the code. ScislaC asked about AppImages and how we can best test and narrow down when an issue first happened. Martin explained his personal process of using release AppImages for older issues and pipeline results for newer ones. Vaibhav asked about releasing AppImages in the GitLab release. Elindil reports that AppImages from three years ago have been deleted, but anything newer are available. Martin knows that space on GitLab can sometimes be a problem and pipeline results are deleted. There are still issues with getting and retaining windows developers. The buld time is very very slow on windows and this is causing problems. We told each other stories of how we were introduced to Free Software, and the change in the community over those years and what technologies brought people into the ecosystem and community. Vaibhav has been working on text on path and it involves a lot of maths which can be quite complicated. We talked about the dificulty of fixing some of the problems in boolops, color and other parts of inkscape that need more of a computer science background. There are a bunch of new nodes which allow the text to path to be controlled better. Vaibhav worked on a few thigns at the same time, worked on pending reviews in GSoC. We're reaching the end for the node editing improvements but the pen editing functionality wil take more time to complete. We looked at the design and some of the ways the MR needs to be improved. Elendil has been working on shortcut handling. There is a GLOBAL vs. LOCAL setting which we have set to GLOBAL despite this not being the default there is no commit message or comments which explain why we have this setup. Ishaan has continued their work on marker transforms. Martin says he can help with the cairo use of the API with marker z-order data. There some other regressions in markers which are separate but could do with being tested. We went through the way to write unit tests. ScislaC brought to our attention an old issue with the modification keys where it used to be possible to change the scale of objects by hovering over one of the resize controls. Hi all, Following are the meeting notes for the Developer Meeting on 25th December 2024: Attending: Ishaan, Jonathan, Mike, Tav, Elendil (Krlr17) Ishaan: Working on Martin's centralised marker transforms refactor, stuck on definition of no stroke. Mike suggested to ping Rafael as he worked recently on markers. Some discussion on harlines. Mike: Comboboxes to dropdown replacement. Working on breaking Object Properties MR into smaller MRs for better reviewability. Also worked on Spin button implementation. Tav: Working on color fonts rendering with different font types with recent cairo and harfbuzz. A brief explanation of color fonts and their different types (very interesting!) Elendil: asked Tav whether the PDF text import fixes need forward-porting (they do). Some discussion on whether a newer pango version is required. Jonathan would like to use Inkscape's Mac that Tav is using during the Summit to check a file that only works on Mac. Jonathan also wanted to check if someone would like to submit a proposal for LGM from Inkscape - Supporting a Proprietary Format, GTK4 migration, CMYK work might be interesting topics. Dev Meeting notes 2020-12-09 Present: Elendil, Ishaan, René, Tav, Mike, Jonathan, Martin Elendil was fixing some bugs on master that interfered with testing. Ishaan has been working on https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/merge_requests/6844. Martin also has been working on refactoring markers, so there's some collaboration possibility here. Martin: The CMYK Export supports most features now, except for text. Also some refactoring because markers code was duplicated all over the codebase, and went out of sync over time. Needs to talk to Tav about text. There are many different ways of writing out text. Tav prefers to use a method that is relatively easy to read back in. Tav has been working on fixing a PDF import bug where text was incorrectly positioned. Mike has discovered that the results from our LCH color picker differes from what browsers do when the color doesn't convert properly to sRGB. There is an iterative function defined in the CSS Colors Level 4 spec how to deal with those. Mike is working on integrating this into Inkscape. (https://www.w3.org/TR/css-color-4/#binsearch) Martin remarks that this is related to "rendering intent" in LCMS2. Needs some more discussion on whether CSS reinvented this concept or accidentally fixed it to some specific value. Martin is looking into support for HDR colors in Inkscape. Some technical discussion about color spaces follows. Mike also added an experimental XYZ color picker. René contacted MacStadium again, they are in the final stages of drafting a sponsorship agreement (mostly their internal process), so we can get some more infrastructure. He will let us know if there is something to sign. New infrastructure is expected to be available for Christmas. The GNOME project is also in talks with MacStadium (as in, René is also running CI for them). Currently the infrastructure is not shared between GNOME and Inkscape, but René might suggest this again. He has also begun to rework how we package Python. Currently they are using custom shell scripts, but a build tool like jhbuild would be nicer. Hence, he's transitioning to Conan (https://conan.io/). This work will also allow to transition to Python 3.12 on Mac. Martin asks whether we should together a proposal to fund bugfixing for 1.4.1. Elendil agrees. - backporting - updating translation - updating graphics - fix some egregious issues reported since 1.4 Some additional discussion about asking for donations. Suggestions: Downloadable swag after you donate (e.g. some kind of file that makes the user interface shiny) or a dialog that pops up periodically like in Thunderbird. Martin remarks that this is not only about donations for the project, but also giving users means to participate (as contributors, or as decision-makers when contributing financially). Maybe even some kind of "Reddit Place" instead that it's a huge shape builder image where users can "buy" areas that they can draw on? Would be a nice experiment. The dev team plans to put together a proposal for an infrastructure project to update the website (Django) and add stripe integration.

Present: Ishaan, Elendil, Martin. Mike, Tav Tav: Incorrect implementation of text pickboxes, the code seems wrong. It does the calculation many times and doesn't cache the result We looked at various boxes related to text picking and selecting and if they were using these data. The goal is to be able to get color fonts like emoji to display. Also worked on an MR replacing FileDialog with new GtkDialogs. These new dialogs check when you're overwriting a file. Some things might need to be moved from "Save As" dialog to the Export dialog. Martin: Tuning test suite for PDF export, an HTML table to see the tests better. Some discussion on different color spaces as they relate to SVG and the PDF export. PDF Exporter doesn't need to be too clever. Mike: Mostly working on mega Color MR - roundtrip color conversion, etc. Some discussion on what should be present in the XML document when user selects the color in a different color space. Martin suggested that the picker should save to the default color space. The picker should also say which space it's saving in. Users should also be able to select different color spaces if they want. Some discussion on what happens when you select the color with a picker and how inkscape saves that in XML. Ishaan is looking at the page tool for selection cues as it does a similar thing when you drag around the page. It creates an outline and it covers a lot of cases for example markers. Though Ishaan found some bugs for example missing start markers on a closed path. Mike suggested to show some visual cue when objects are locked, maybe less saturated node handles and selection cue. Present: Elendil, Ishaan Arora, Martin, Mike, René, Jabiertxof Elendil reports that the bugtracker has been pretty healthy recently. Ishaan continued working on selection cues, working on the design. Some discussion about how to implement this. Jonathan briefly presented three proposed contract development projects: 1) GTK4 cross-platform fixes, 2) Improving Windows developer experience / dev documentation, 3) Website upgrades / better use of the CDN. Help is appreciated to formulate the goals of these projects, please contact him if you can help. Some discussion on 2). The prime goal is to improve the developer experience on Windows, to attract Windows developers. Questions: How much effort is necessary to build Inkscape with Visual Studio? Can we do it with GCC, or do we need to patch msvc? Martin raises the point that another compiler increases complexity of the codebase. René thinks that we should offer a native build experience, that means using msvc. He will look into whether there is a convenient way to hook up clang or gcc with VS to make sure that's not an option. There is a certain risk that this doesn't pay off - if we fail to attract Windows developers, this infrastructure would rot. René: how many wrappers would we need to create? Martin is working on PDF export as a C++ internal extension, and is improving the new upstream Library CapyPDF at the same time. This work will occupy him for some time. He describes the relationship with upstream as good. Mike has worked on the way we develop themes; they can now be written on SASS. He's also worked on decoding LAB colors from Adobe Color files. Some technical discussion between Mike and Martin about the Color API. René has been phasing out jobs on the Intel runner. He's on a bit of a break, waiting for the new MacStadium infrastructure, so he can set it up. The donated infrastructure would be valued around 700 USD per month. On the Windows side he's looking for cloud hoster that can provide Windows infrastructure for us. Martin thinks that this is important for programs like the Bugfix Accelerator. After the meeting, we've looked at some MRs.

Heya Inkscape Developers, Following up on an issue that came up a few months ago about code and other uses of LLMs; we at Software Freedom Conservancy have been hearing from member projects that people are asking whether they can submit code to these projects that was generated by large language models (LLMs), sometimes called AI coding assistants. We'd like to better understand the nature of these requests, how much LLM-generated code has been offered to these projects, and generally how you're feeling about the situation. To do this, we will be holding three different sessions, where you are welcome to join and share your thoughts and any details so far on these types of contributions. The sessions will all be run in the same way with the same topic - we are running three in order to hopefully allow as many people from around the world to attend as possible. Meeting Oct 6th 2024

Dear Developers, This week's developer meeting was a quiet one; it was Rene, Martin, Tav and Marc. Event: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/1/ We talked about the release and making sure everything is lined up. Marc is happy about the translations system he's created. Rene has one final commit to update the windows build infra, nothing for macOS. For the future, Rene is not going to upgrade the macOS version but is going to keep the intel machine so it can be booted up during releases, We looked at a merge request outstanding which was all about tanslations. There have been a couple of crashes which have been fixed and merged in time for the 1.4.x We reviewed the locations for various projects in gitlab and if things are organised correctly. Martin has been working on the capypdf integration, between C and C++ APIs and upstream headers. The next meeting is Monday the 14th October. Best Regards, Martin Owens

Inkscape Developer Survey 2024: Results

Dear devs, Big thanks to everyone who filled out the survey. I'm attaching the PDF of the results here so we can have a saved record of it. There's some really interesting comments and results. TLDR; 1. We need more windows devs 2. Build instructions are too unreliable 3. People aren't finding mentors 4. Merge requests aren't being reviewed quickly enough What prompted this survey was a view that people were bouncing off contributing this year and I wanted to know for sure what was going on. Layer issue

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I have the following issue and I’m not sure if it is supposed to work that way: I have a document with nested layers, let’s say + Layer A | +- Layer B | +- Layer C + Layer D +- Layer E For editing purposes, only layer A and B are visible, C, D and E are hidden. If I now use the command line interface of Inkscape to export the image in various configurations, I do the following: select-all:layers; selection-hide; select-clear select-by-id:D selection-unhide select-by-id:E selection-unhide and then export as png... Through this I want to initially hide *ALL* layers and only turn on the layers I want. But apparently, select-all:layers only selects the topmost layers A and D, but does not change the settings for B, C and E. I know that nested layers were only introduced later, could it be that select-all:layers was never updated to reflect this? Or would a new option for select all (e.g. select-all:nested-layers, or select-all:layers:depth=... ) be a sensible option? My main point is: I want to be able to switch on individual layers (because I know their ID), but I want to be able to switch off *ALL* layers before doing so, without knowing all their IDs. And I don't want to store the original SVG with all layers switched off, because in editing, I usually have some of the layers switched on (latest/last configuration I’m currently working on). -- cheers, Alex

Dear all, here are the notes from today's meeting. Dev meeting Sep 28 2024 Present: Tav, Mc, Jonathan, Martin 1.4-rc was uploaded to the website. Ravi is supposed to restart his GSoC in the upcoming week. Tav hast been working on the File dialogs. Opening: saving is working on his PC. Preview is handled by the file browser instead of ourselves. Saving is difficult, because it relies on the extension of the target file name to chose the format. There is no option to add custom fields. Tav proposes to let the export dialog decide the format to save to, and the file chooser there only decide about the filename. The settings button there can be used to set all options specific to a file format (e.g. SVG: save as plain SVG, clean up css, and so on). In general, the Import / Export system is way over-engineered. At the same time, a rework of import/export on the command line is in order. PBS's MR does the "minimum in order to get it to work", but doesn't address the proposed architectural / UX changes, so it goes into a different direction. Jonathan has worked on the Extensions system. The final target is to completely separate out python dependencies - nothing is installed by default, and extensions authors needs so specify their dependencies same as in any ordinary Python package. This makes extensions more backwards-compatible with older Inkscape versions, and allow authors to request any dependency they want. For now, the first step was splitting out inkex into a new repository (svgpie) and setting up a new pipeline and build system there. Martin is compiling Inkscape master on the new Pop!OS, seems to work. Marc has worked on the translations system, trying to simplify the workflow for translators. Some discussion related to pre-release checklists. Need to unify them - there is one written by Nathan, one written by Vectors, and one on the Wiki. After the end of the meeting, Martin and Marc worked on this Martin has received a few more responses on the Developer Survey (24 in total). Almost everyone identified as a programmer. Half of them were active in 2024, almost all of them work on Debian or Fedora/Arch. Build instructions are found, but they only work for 1/3. The vast majority of contributors are motivated by public service and personal learning. Issues raised: - developer documentation is all over the place - Python extensions need more how-to's - Windows should use the native toolchain (msvc) - Merge request take too long to approve / merge. - Code base is well-organized, but is a lot to understand. Detailed results follow on the mailing list. Martin proposes to move all developer documentation from website & wiki into the repository, to get more contributions to it and make it more organized. The website still needs to provide the required information to get started with contributing, e.g. how to check out the repository and linking to the compile instructions (then a md file in the repo). There is general agreement with this idea. We discussed (lack of) Windows developers. Consensus is we need to invest into the infrastructure - building using Windows-native tools, giving Windows dev the experience they are used to, and updating the documentation. Maybe conduct developer experience interviews? This would be target developer experience, not CI. Martin wants to talk to René first. Marc will update the install_dependencies script to not break if libspelling is not found. Best regards Jonathan

Weird PDF export issue (page size)

Hi, lately, I came upon this weird beavior when exporting to PDF: I have to base documents of size A4, the only difference is that the 2nd document has a page definition. If I open the 1st document (empty.svg, without the page definition), and export it as PDF, I get a PDF of size A4. Uncmpressing the PDF with pdftk shows a mediabox of size [0 0 595.275591 841.889764] (divide 595.275591 by 72 and multiply by 25.4, we get 210mm, as expected) If I now open the 2nd document (page.svg, with the page definition), and export it with exactly the same settings, I get a PDF which is slightly larger. In the Acrobat reader, it shows up as 210.3×297.0 mm, and looking at the uncompressed PDF the mediabox now has a size of [0 0 596 842], i.e. rounded up to the next integer. (596 / 72 * 2.54 = 210.25555mm) The PDF export options about rounding do not have any effect. This is with Inkscape 1.3.2, I checked back with yesterday’s devel snapshot: now the empty.svg is also exported oversized (rounded up), the mediabox is now always rounded up to the next integer. -- cheers, Alex

Dear inkscape developers, Our meeting this week is as follows. Event: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/1/ Attending: Martin, Marc, René, Jonathan Next date: September 28th Martin wanted to try populating a "Roadmap" which documents in the meeting what the developer team as a whole is doing. This is an effort that KDE uses to encourage contributors and gives them a way to know what's important to the whole project, even if people can work on anything they like to. The way this would work is to have a graphic in the meeting with he roadmap and some space to draw. Jonathan thinks this kind of thing can go on our website too, with the idea that we can frame it as a direction of travel for the whole project and what we'd like to be able to do in the future. Release for 1.4 release candidate. Marc, Martin and Rene talked about the issues still outstanding and what kind of risk we would be taking. Everyone present was happy enough with the quality of the beta3 to continue with the rc schedule: Wednesday September 25th for the RC, this is the last day for any extensions patches. October 7th is the last day for translations, and October 9th is the scheduled date for release. Rene and Marc talked about a window packaging bug which adds windows CRLF end lines to all text files in the repository, this should be fixed so the release no longer shows up as a custom version. Martin wanted to embody the user's needs by saying that having a custom string in the version shouldn't block or delay the release. Marc has a patch for 1.4.x which solves the problem with gitattributes, although this doesn't cover all future cases so René we continue researching the problem. Marc has made a new process for submitting translations and it's currently in testing. And this is how it works: For each Release, we create a single merge request in gitlab targeting that branch. For example 1.4.x. This merge request is the URL we send to translators, who can then submit their translations to the merge request by creating a new comment with the po file attached. Marc has made a system which consumes the comments, adds them as a new commit to the merge request with a credit to the author and then submits a reply comment with the total statistics so users can see if they have submitted correctly. When ready, the translations will be merged into the branch. This can be done multiple times, so we can progressively add translations for betas and release candidates as we move alone the process. The 1.4.x and master branches will be tested and the translation team will be brought in to make sure everything is set up and working correctly and the new system works as a contributor experience. Marc will ask Maren to compile a message for the translations team at the weekend when this live test will be ready to deploy. Jonathan Sent an email to the SFC on the hiring team for the Adobe Illustrator file format and is waiting to hear back. Marc and Jonathan talk about Hactoberfest, it's a way to get first time contributors into open source development; if they contribute a certain number of commits then they get a t-shirt. Except this year, there's no more t-shirts. They have decent ways of dealing with spam so we can add the tag. Marc already added the tag and we part of the program now. spam and accepted tags allow us to tag things positively and negatively. All contributions are welcome, not just code. Because they've ran out of t-shirts we should fund our own. We need to order some t-shits so that we can have them for this event, but also for other things. Martin will make some generic t-shirts and ask for reimbursement if the project decides to fund them, he says that he can use them for his own supporters and projects if not so there's no risk either way. Martin talked about the color stuff and including capypdf into inkscape directly with the C++, Marc recommended including the library as a submodule and gave instructions for how to do this using mason. The gtkmm4 build is an instructive example. Martin explored the developer survey results so far; 21 people responded, the survey will be kept open another week for any stranglers to add their thoughts to it. Developer Meeting, Sept 4th 2024

Hey everyone, Time for our regular developer meeting notes. Event: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/1/ Attending: Martin, Eledil, Jonathan, Marc, Mikekov, Tav, Ishaan, René Next Meeting: September 12th, (but there is also a PLC meeting on Friday) Beta3 is not perfect because it produces a custom string in the version string which needs to be cleaned up. Marc's certificate expired and needs to renew it. We don't have an official certificate, there is a way around that if we used Azure as a CI builder. We are releasing beta3 today, we had it on draft by accident and have now got it out the door for windows testing specifically. There is an outstanding vote, for hiring a contractor to finish the ai extension. Please make sure you get your votes in for today. Jonathan and Martin talked about the color extensions refactoring branch that is ready for review. Martin will proceed to work on the pdf out extension to add all that color support that now exists. They talk a bit about extensions progress bars and how to get pdf and other things. Jonathan is worried about the speed with a large text file. And how to treat text. Mikekov, has continued work on the object dialog and working on styles. There are a bunch of issues to do with signals and propagation and Martin suggests using signal keys to identify where an update modifier signal has come from. We will discuss this issue further in the chat room. Tav has been working on an Importance Critical bug; when you right click on a spin button it would pop up a menu, that was not the case in 1.4. The menus were mostly used for when the toolbar got too small and there was a menu for each thing that fell of the bar. During the refactoring this feature got removed as not being important. He has a merge request to put them back. An empty call will generate a few useful values even if it's empty. Martin will review. Elendil, if you have an svg file with a css file. The CSS dialog is currently parsing the CSS itself manually and could do with refactoring. The patch code with a comment explaining it should be ok for now as it retains more functionality than retaining the comments would. René is continuing his work on the cross-compiling and Martin's MR to improve that capability. And will help with the version thing. Ishaan will be giving a workshop on Inkscape at a FOSS conference, Bangalore, India. Mikekov; some of our tools are very special. The sp-desktop-style setting and getting is quite broken right now. There's a lot of issues with how these styles are processed before dialogs get access to them. Tav and Martin talk about text object selection with tspans. Ishaan asked about tablet code in master, it had to be removed and now had to be reimplemented. Hey everyone, Thanks to everyone that came to today's meeting. A lot of focus on the release and the tasks needed to get us over the line today. Event: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/1/ Attending: René, Martin, Jonathan, Mikekov, Marc, Tav Next Most exciting thing from René, he has seen the future of macOS CI, because after having talked to someone who is doing this for gstreamer, the tech that allows having the virtualised runners which means you don't need to spend time on build and installation configuration because that's baked into how that would work. The only down side is it requires more hardware resource than we currently have available. the hardware we currently have from mac stadium is currently the smallest size. Though we do want to move towards this virtualisation. René is going to meet with Macstatium tomorrow to explain why we need an upgrade to our hardware setup. If that doesn't pan out René will probably make the setup by himself. René has an open MR which is holding up beta3. We had a look at how important it was to have this fix in time for beta3. We've decided to make a beta3 without the raster image extensions so we can get things tested. The pencil target for RC target for September 13th. Jonathan reports his mentoring of the GSoC project for the aidesign file format by Manpreet. The project is pretty much done and has a fantastic release ready code which will be in 1.4. There was a fraudulent zendesk help site which sent users to a fraudulent website. This was taken down. Jonathan gave the background to the previous adobe illustrator importer. He believes we understand what went wrong and we think we can continue the work with a known developer who knows how to develop these kinds of extensions. He will make a vote to fund the proposal after this meeting. Tav talked with pono yesterday about the rate and a base rate of $40 per hour extendable for local conditions. We're looking for 100 hours. The team held a vote to formally request the funding from the PLC. The vote was 6 in favor, zero against. Scour is now inside the inkscape project, if no one comes to help it it will be on the GSoC list of available project. It's not written with the new extensions system and has a lot of duplicate code. Mikekov is working on the popup editing feature for inkscape in the object properties. It's a work in progress. Martin suggests splitting out any refactoring so it's easier to review if there is any. Martin asked Tav if he could do an assessment on the open bugs for 1.4. Marc completely rewrote the debian packaging for the PPA, this only works on 24.10 because that is the first version that has all the packages we require for Gtk4. And only for AMD64 as there are some test failures on other platforms. There are a bunch of extra fixes for the debian packaging for language and extensions including splitting out inkex. This week we had a highly technical meeting with our core developers. Meeting: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/1/ Attending: Martin, Jonathan, Mikekov, pbs, Rafael, René Next Meeting: August 27th, 2024 Issue with the windows build for 1.4, a missing dep maybe for ImageMagic, Marc edited it just an hour ago. The way 2geom is imported has been corrected, but the CI builder doesn't do the right thing for testing. PBS presents the issue of using asyinc coroutines for the Gtk4 dialogs. There's a way to wrap the gtkmm calls to be coroutine compataible. PBS asked about using getThing() or jsut thing() in API design. Martin tends towards using get when calculating but goes for whatever is around it when editing code. Martin takled with René about the crossink status and how much work we have to do to get windows builds to work in wine. We talked about using a VM vs. using crossink and how important it is to get developers to comile and test issues with windows builds. We talked about getting fixes into upstream Gnome, Gtk project and some of the technical and social barriers to to doing that. Is Gtk portable or is it crossplatform? We need to know what Gtk thinks these mean to know what their mission is so we can best fit their expectations. Jonathan talked about mentoring his GSoC student for the afdesigner importer. The student needs to write up what he's done and most of the things are supported in the donated files. He found out what clipboard data is available, curiously afdesigner makes an x-inkscape-svg clipboard type. But we'd still use the afdesigner importer for that. Jonathan brought up how we want to re-organise extensions. Mikekov has gotten back into reviewing some of the designs and implimenting them for the object properties dialog. We talked about how the update process works which is too corse at the moment. Rafael was working on the marker tools and is doing a top down rewrite including the on canvas marker editing. Martin talked about doing the color stuff in python and support and testing it. Will support a couple of the new CSS module 4 color formats for exporting. That's it for this week. Hey everyone! Meeting: https://inkscape.org/cals/event/1/ Attending: Martin, skipper, Marc, René, Raven King, Ishaan, Tav, pbs Next meeting: 19th August We talked briefly about the hardware program and Adam leaving and the SFC's failure. Further details about this will be sent to the plc mailing list soon. # GSoC Skipper wanted to ask about problems with UX follow up now that Adam has left. Vaibhav is the mentor and suggested coming into the meeting to find out how to proceed. Martin talked about a similar issue currently being felt in the node delete tool. Suggested coming to the chat or post an issue where the discussion could be done. Marc recommends making a proposal and use that as a starting point, especially since people who are not happy about it will have to give their arguments. # Beta3 for windows The background is that we have a beta2 which is not functioning for windows users and since we have significant windows issues, then we need to make a beta3 as soon as possible. René says that if we need a beta4 or beta5 because we can't get it working, then so be it. René wants to know if some of the deps need to be updated or not. There are a few things to do. # Release procedure Moving everything to the CI builder so there's much less work to do and we can all know how a release is done. We're still building the 32-bit windows in order to have access to Arm builds. If we had a machine that built for Arm we wouldn't need this. We briefly talked about support and what Inkscape supporting users means. Pbs wants to talk about the broken Debian packaging link and how it's stopped working. We talk about how Debian packaging on launchpad is done and some of the details about how that system works for us as a sort of CI builder. He also fixed some issues with the AppImage builder, specifically to do with CJK support. But the fix isn't available to Inkscape 1.4 because of how it would be built with upstream libraries. Philip wanted help with the AppImage but there weren't anyone in the meeting who knew AppImage very well. Recommended to post to the mailing list. # Procedures We talked about how to create merge requests, and what is expected of developers. Assigning themselves to issues, reviewers and keeping their local admin clean to help other contributors. We talked about spaghetti code and various issues with trying to keep the code tidy. We talked about limiting the merges to master to people who have two factor authentication enabled on Git Lab. # Other items Is there still font issues on windows for user installed fonts? We think this is fixed, but we're not sure. Spellchecking has stopped working on master. It looks like an upstream issue. Philip was working on GUI free Inkscape and tab based Inkscape, which was too much to do at once. Tav did some of the groundwork for this with things like SPDesktop. # Activity We worked on merge requests for 1.4.x at the end of the meeting. Best Regards, Martin Owens

To be honest, we have worked together once. I developed a customized version of Flameshot for him. Now, he wants me to customize inkscape to meet his needs. I know it depends on me, although I am not sure I can do it completely. He and I found some interesting plug-ins that may solve such problems. I am exploring in this direction, but in the meantime, I may need some help from the community. If necessary, I am also willing to pay for it. If anyone is interested in HPGL's digital engraving machine and related functions and does know how to develop inkscape integration, I hope you can get in touch with me further.
