Hi, here is a translation and update of the 'mirror effect' tutorial published on the www.linuxgraphic.org web site, by J.-P. Bourgoy If you can take a look at it, I'll accept with great pleasure any correction/update/remark. I've updated it with the use of clones, added some exported bitmaps of some icons and inserted a few remarks. It is in HTML at the moment (edited with Nvu), and can be put on the Wiki. I plan to have a PDF and SVG version (with scribus) asap. Regards, Matiphas PS: please note that the file is a zip file. If necessary, add a .zip extension to its name. A4 is weird size

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that DIN or ISO A4 just is 210.00 * 297.00 more correct (considering where Din comes from) I'm not sure where you take the 209.90*297.04 in document prefs from... when caculating A4 with the way it is derived (A0 = 1m², a/b = b/(2a) ) I get 210.22*297.30 That is [1/sqrt(sqrt(2)) / 4 * 1000] * [sqrt(sqrt(2)) / 4 * 1000] David

New raw file format from Adobe

Ran across this the other day. Looks intended to be a better replacement for TIFF for photography for storing raw image data. http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/main.html Sounds like it's being geared as an open standard like SVG, PNG, etc. Bryce

very slow loading of docs (win32)

I am notice that first time loading of documents containing text takes as much as 2+ minutes. This is the case even for very small docs (with one word) in them. I notice that the application is loading all the fonts and I have some huge unicode font files. Even after removing some of the bigger ones, it is still slow. Is this to do with pango/freetype? If so, any plans to move to newer version of pango/freetype? Thanks in advance Sudhan

OK Bulia, thanks for this. IMHO I feel this as not so flexible or coherent. Is there a way to challenge the spec, and have it updated in a future release, so that the clones become more flexible (up to the user to decide wether the geometry, move, stroke, fill (etc) must be linked with original or not). clone behavior

Hi all, I face a small issue while translating the tutorial from JP Bourgeoy (mirror effect), I'm facing a problem with the behavior of the clones. -> fill and stroke of the cloned object is locked and synchronized with the original object (while user can choose if geometric transformations are linked or not) the problem is i'd like to clone the original object, then fill it with black and move it to enhance relief/create a shadow. -> not possible I was wondering if it would be a good idea to let the user completely choose (in Inkscape prefs for example) the behavior and thus decide if fill and stroke must be linked or not. At the moment, there is a simple workaround : duplicate then group. Shall I submit a RFE ? Regards, Geraud
