In order to make my mind on the functionalities and the software, i've spent a few moments on the RFEs. -> Read them, sorted, grouped (etc etc) It's far from perfect, but if it can help someone as it has helped, here it is. It can maybe help some of you removing the redundancy within the list of open RFEs ( especially layers, node editing...) My idea, in the long term, is to identify let's say 20 main categories, sort/group the RFEs in those categories and attribute a score to each category according to the number of RFEs it contains and their priority. I finally installed all the new libs and tried to compile CVS: Makefile:2804: *** missing separator. Stop. The line 2804 is: @am__fastdepCXX_TRUE@ if $(CXXCOMPILE) -MT $@ -MD -MP -MF "$(DEPDIR)/$*.Tpo" \ any ideas?

align comments

I finally tried the new align dialog. I realize it's a work in progress but still here are some comments: - BUG: when I open the align dialog, then switch to another non-Inkscape window and then back to Inkscape, the dialog disappears. Even when I switch focus to the editing window, the dialog disappears (not only sinks but disappears completely). This does not happen with e.g. Fill&Stroke dialog, and it must be fixed as soon as possible. - merging the two tabs into one makes sense, but then remove the lone "Align" tab - the new title "Docker" tells me nothing - Align and Distribute is what it does, so that is the title it should use; also don't lose the shortcut listed in the dialog title, as in all other dialogs - the anchor menu must have an appropriate label, e.g. "Relative to:" - the anchor meny only applies to alignment, not distribution, and therefore must be inside the Align frame - the old behavior corresponds to Selection, and therefore Selection must be the first and the default selected item in the anchor menu; it's also the most intuitive - the Last/First Selected items may be confusing, because in many cases the order or selection is undefined (e.g. when you do a rubberband around several objects), so please remove them and add Top/Bottom Object (referring to z-order) instead - in the node mode, none of the anchor menu items make sense (nodes have no bigger/smaller, no z-order, etc) so the menu must be removed, instead it should always align within the bounding box of the selected nodes It looks very promising, so I look forward to your further work on this! :)

I think the issue with the path is now fixed. Example under win2k and Mandrake10 : a create a "project" directory, copy there the bitmaps needed, create there the SVG file(s) b work (!) (ie import some bitmaps) c create zip/tgz of the project directory, and send it somewhere else (mail/move) d unzip/untgz and open the svg file -> OK, the bitmaps are correctly linked/loaded in Inkscape * [ 922750 ] Inkscape ignores file extentions when exporting a file and [ 993210 ] Exporting to .jpeg The extension problems comes from the fact that Inkscape only bitmap-export to png. Autobuilds working again

Now that things have begun to settle down, it appears that the autobuilds are beginning to work once again. The cross-compiler and gtk2.4/gtkmm2.4 libs here: http://troi.titan-aeu.com/~rjamison/inkscape appear to be compiling Inkscape and linking it properly. You may notice the larger .zip file sizes. This is a result of the unstripped gtkmm .dll files in the distro. I experimented with linking the dll with the static gtkmm libs, then dynlinking the .exe's with that. The static libs for gtkmm/glibmm, unstripped, are > 120MB!!! So that is not an option for now. Maybe we can think of something else. Stripping is not an option, either. Why cripple the testers' ability to use GDB, the very reason to supply these binaries? However, this -is- development work, so hopefully our testing compatriots can bear with us for a while. Bob
