Hey, Bryce asked for this, but I thought it might be useful for other people too. There is a little utility on this page called 'lc' which counts lines. There are others too, but I've only used lc. Inkscape 0.36 pre-release 1

A pre-release version of Inkscape is available for review and testing in source and RPM forms here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=93438 Please download, test out, and report any significant problems you encounter to the Inkscape bug tracker. We anticipate releasing 0.36 soon, unless any show-stopper bugs (such as frequent crashes) are discovered. Thanks, Bryce

Maybe a novel idea would be to make separate project on sourceforge that is svg clipart. Like svg-clipart.sf.net would be great. The benefits would be open source designing of symbols, maps, etc for the SVG-compliant community. It might also be nice to push the artwork developed via different SVG apps to a standard, well defined place that might promote interoperability and compliance of all,or many :) ofthe different SVG drawing programs. It would be totally cool to use CVS to design with and allow ppl. from all over the world to work on designs. Thoughts? max undo

I have increased max undo from 128 to 512, as 128 was way too low imho. In the next version it will be in preferences, but 512 may be the default. Any objections? * src/sp-text.c: fixed typing non-ascii chars; copied (with fixes) treatment of xml:space from sodipodi 0.33 * src/sp-text.h: small fix from sodipodi 0.33 * src/text-context.c: copied sp_text_context_preedit_reset and related code from sodipodi 0.33; xml:space='preserve' is added to newly created text objects; esc deselects; uncatched keys are passed on; misc fixes Please test the text tool thoroughly! xml:space default?

As a result of my and mental's copying code from sodipodi, now it's possible to set xml:space=preserve via xml editor on a tspan, and the multiple adjacent spaces will not be combined into one as they are now. Does anyone else think it might be a good idea to add this attribute by default to all newly created text objects? On the other hand, why do we have to guard against any control chars at all? If we get a string in UTF8, suffices it to check that it's valid UTF8, and complain if it's not. If it is valid, we can insert it without any further checks. sodipodi diff

(sorry my gaim keeps segfaulting, no idea why, never used it before... email is more reliable anyway :) I did a diff between the hydra branch and Sodipodi 0.33 (only /src). It's 450Kb so I cannot even put it on the tracker - maybe put into CVS? Where's the best place? Anyway, I would propose that everyone would review the diff and delete those parts that are already in Inkscape, or those that make to sense, or are already resimplemented differently, etc. Anything worth transferring should be transferred (and then deleted from the diff). Hopefully we can thus eventually reduce it to zero. I have already removed some small things that I copied to Inkscape. What I'd like to discuss is this: - arikkei_* functions are now used extensively all over the codebase, for things like number to string conversions. Are they worth borrowing? What are their advantages compared to atoi and snprintf used before? - Sodipodi 0.33 can type Cyrillic characters in the text tool. Inkscape cannot. Sodipodi also can display fancy chars such as em-dash (ctrl-u 2014), Inkscape cannot. I think this is due to all the Unicode new stuff in 0.33. We must have this too. Unfortunately it's quite big and complex and I'm not sure I can transfer this correctly. Any takers? - The "duplicate" checkbox in transformation dialog is nice. OK, I solved this one. Indeed the problem was gchar (i.e. signed) - which was treated as less-than-zero when it run into this stupid bit of code: if ((spnew[i] < 32) && ((spnew[i] != 9) && (spnew[i] != 10) && (spnew[i] != 13))) spnew[i] = 32; which was meant to replace control chars with spaces, but ended up replacing all non-ascii chars with spaces when used with gchar instead of guchar.
