Gtk3 Migration Hackfest

Hi, The Inkscape Board is considering sending a group of Inkscape developers to the Gnome Users and Developers conference (GUADEC)[1] to work on the migration from Gtk2 to Gtk3. The conference takes place in Karlsruhe, Germany. The core conference is from August 12th-14th. Hackfests are scheduled August 15th-17th. Before we can decide on sending developers we need to: 1. Identify which Inkscape developers could go. Developers should have some basic experience with Gtk2 and Gtk3 programming. 2. Identify who the developers would work with (which Gtk experts at GUADEC would be available for help). 3. Which migration issues would be tackled. Release 0.92 plan

A year ago we kicked off a rapid 0.92 release, but turns out it wasn't so rapid! But I'd like to re-kickoff 0.92, with renewed hopes of getting through the remainder of the release process swiftly. The main thing the release got hung up on was the cmake transition, but at this point it's actually close to done and I think we can proceed. We've accumulated a lot of nice features for this release. Local copy of gtest

Summary: If we want to run tests in the PPA, we probably need to include a copy of gtest source in our repo. Any objections? Hi All, Are there any objections to bundling a copy of the Google test framework source code into our trunk repo? At the moment, we provide the download-gtest.sh script for grabbing the gtest source from upstream. However, this presents a couple of issues: 1. It's obviously dependent on a network connection to the upstream packages being available 2. We can't run the wget download in the Ubuntu builder Can I suggest that we simply adopt a copy of the gtest source? Are there any good reasons (e.g. licensing) not to do this? I'm generally not keen on repo bloat but AFAIU it's generally considered good practice to bundle test frameworks with project source code. AV

Just two notes: - Spacebar switches to selection tool (toggles back and forth between current and selector), so the key is not free. - There are expert users at inkscapeforum.com who routinely recommend turning off snapping to gain speed improvements, so there is probably something to it (I never noticed anything, but my drawings are not very complex usually). possibly strange question (snap)

Hi Friends, I just was wondering something. Keeping in mind, as many of you know, I'm not very technically oriented. So this could be totally impossible. But it seems like it might be, and I guess it can't hurt to ask. I'm often doing a lot of node editing, and often snapping nodes to a pixel grid. The part that slows me down the most is positioning the mouse pointer precisely over a node, to be able to click it (select it) or move it. Would there be any way to give Inkscape an optional feature that would snap the mouse to something - like have it snap to nodes or handles? I mean, snap the mouse pointer that is not dragging something yet. The snap of the mouse would have to be disabled by the selection click, I guess, so that you could move the node. Well maybe there's a better way to accomplish this? Since recent versions (I think 0.91 is when I first noticed it) you can make the nodes and handles larger. But I find that blocks the drawing too much. I've also tried making the Grab Sensitivity bigger. But that doesn't seem to affect selecting nodes. And yes, I definitely drag a selection box, when possible. But often it's not possible. Of course I would be open to other ways, to make selecting individual nodes easier. But I thought I'd ask if it's possible. It seems like it ought to be possible. Actually, this could help people who don't have very good mouse control, to be able to use Inkscape easier. Oh! And it would be totally awesome for the mouse to be able to snap to a guide, because those puppies can be so frustrating to grab sometimes. Maybe such a feature would come under the heading of accessibility? Thank you very much, brynn

The fact remains, it would be great to see what you are about to select in real-time (or as close as possible). While I agree in general with your remarks C R, having tried out the feature awhile last night, the ability to toggle selection nodes heavily improves the situation -- If you select the wrong node just toggle it and continue the selection process.
