Fix for "easy-fix" bug "Tweak tool using wrong cursor", a few beginners questions

I have pushed a fix for https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/587729 to http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~christoffer-holmstedt/inkscape/lp587729-tweak-… 1) What do I do now as I don't have commit rights (I assume) to inkscape.dev? 2) During compilation of my changes I got an error "pixmaps/cursor-tweak-move-in.xpm:38:35: warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to ‘char*’ [-Wwrite-strings]" for all my added cursors but I couldn't see any difference between my cursors and the original ones. I assume that I get the same errors during a full compilation for all cursors but I might be wrong here. 3) I added "--fixes lp:587729" to my bzr commit command but when I pushed to launchpad the status of the bug wasn't changed automatically, I expected it to change to "Fix committed". Hello all, I am currently pursuing my undergraduate studies in Computer Science and Engineering at Delhi Technological University , New Delhi , India and am looking forward to be a part of GSoC 2013. I have been using software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop since before high-school. With the interest I had in programming and algorithms, I always wanted to contribute to such software programs. FOSS caught my attention in my second year of college and I began delving into Inkscape as it provided me an opportunity to get inside the workings of a real software almost similar to Illustrator. I have fixed one bug till yet: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/773288 *I intend on implementing a Recolor Artwork Tool that shall allow: *1) Managing Color Themes with one go. 2) Enable editing many objects' colors on-the-go (simplified interface). This site should give some idea about what I have in mind- http://colorschemedesigner.com/ Thankyou to ScislaC for pointing this site out and lessening my burden of explaining what the tool would do. The credit for the idea goes to Inkscape's developer wiki which urges the contributors: '*Don’t please the artist—BE the artist'* and in my view, this tool shall be a boon to all of Inkscape's heroes, our artists. I have played around the gimpcolorwheel.c file and studied Cairo's drawing structure to paint the entire Hue Wheel in my experiments. A screenshot (result) is attached for the mentors' and advisors' perusal. Also, I have added a 'Recolor Artwork' option in the 'Object' Menu to house the final tool widget. As an almost rookie for such a project, I hope the discussion with people adept with industry methods and experience in digital designing will definitely help me chalk out finer details of how to structure the tool keeping in mind the intricacies of Inkscape's codebase. Request for http://wiki.inkscape.org account, update to CompilingUbuntu wiki page

The wiki states that I should send an email to the dev list if I want a wiki account, so here is that email . I just followed the compiling instructions at http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/CompilingUbuntu on a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS and I had to install the package "autopoint", which is not listed on that wiki page, to get the autogen.sh script working. Anyone running Ubuntu Raring that can confirm that it's the same for later releases than 12.04? Regards -- Christoffer Holmstedt

GSoC 2013 - Embedding of license and attribution metadata

Hi I'm studying Master in Software Engineering at Mälardalen University in Sweden and looking in to the possiblities of participating in GSoC 2013. I've used Inkscape for several years as a user and want a deeper understanding of how c/c++ is used in larger projects so I feel that Inkscape can be a good project for me. Enough about me for this time, as Johan Engelen posted in an earlier conversation [1] I will try to spend my time fixing bugs instead of "fine tuning" my GSoC application. So to my suggestion and questions. For the last weeks I've been in contact with Jonas Öberg a Shuttleworth Fellow running the project "License and attribution metadata" [2,3]. With start from the 1st of June 2013 they will begin their work of developing a library for storing license and attribution metadata in digital works. My suggestion for GSoC 2013 is to use that library in Inkscape. There are both benefits and problems that comes with trying to use a library while it's still in alpha/prototype stages so what do you think about this? 1) Is this work of any interest? 2) What do you think about developing the additions to Inkscape as GSoC project in parallell with creation of a library for this? Cairo compositing in handles

Hi all, I have been successful in making a menu-item in the *Object* Menu of the name *Recolor Artwork*. Just as an exercise I have copied the Fill and Stroke .cpp and .h files and translated the entire dialog to under the name *RecolorArtwork* rather than *FillAndStroke*. Logically this should mean that the entire dialog box shall now be replicated under the pseudonym of * RecolorArtwork*. To add a menu-item I edited the *menu-skeleton.h* file's variable * menus_skeleton[]. * I added " <verb verb-id=\"DialogRecolorArtwork\" />\n " under " <verb verb-id=\"DialogFillStroke\" />\n " This handles the display part of the task. Now what remains is linking the action and verb. I added a enum value: *SP_VERB_DIALOG_RECOLOR_ARTWORK* in *verbs.h* and in *verbs.cpp * I added: *new DialogVerb(SP_VERB_DIALOG_RECOLOR_ARTWORK, "DialogRecolorArtwork", N_("_Recolor Artwork..."),* * N_("Description of Recolor Artwork..."), INKSCAPE_ICON("dialog-fill-and-stroke")), * This links the verb *SP_VERB_DIALOG_RECOLOR_ARTWORK *and * DialogRecolorArtwork. * In the same file *verbs.cpp*, I added: *case SP_VERB_DIALOG_RECOLOR_ARTWORK:* * dt->_dlg_mgr->showDialog("RecolorArtwork");* * break;* in the function: * * *void DialogVerb::perform(SPAction *action, void *data) * * * which launches the appropriate dialog or rather it should.
