Right to left language support, is this intended or a bug?

Here is a test file: http://saf.bio.caltech.edu/pub/pickup/hebrew_decorations1.svg It starts with two Hebrew sentences (R->L) and ends with the English word "overline" (L->R). It is all overlined (text-decoration.) So the text is supposed to look like this: __________________ --3--><--2--<--1-- The first Hebrew sentence is longer and the second one has two words of three characters each. (No browser I tried rendered this correctly, hence the long verbal description.) Anyway, when an attempt was made to print this to an EMF file this is what was observed: 1. Each Hebrew character was sent as its own string. 2. In "style" both "direction" and "block_progression" computed values were set to 0. 3. The one English word was sent as a string (not character by character). Again, the direction and block_progression were set to 0. Naively for this sentence I expected to see two calls to PrintEmf::text(), the first with all of the Hebrew and text direction nonzero, and the second all English and direction zero. Only the second part of that was correct. Before I try to "fix" it - is the current character by character behavior for R->L text intentional? (Not having tried to fix it yet, it could well be that this is a side effect of some of my changes.) On a related note elsewhere, for instance, when rendering text to the screen, Inkscape leaves mixed L->R,R->L tspans in one piece - and then does some very strange things when one tries to navigate with the arrow keys within them to edit the text. Would it perhaps not be better to break up all mixed direction tspans that hit TNG compute into 2 or more tspans, each of which is either all R->L or all L->R characters, and for good measure, has the direction="rtl" and "ltr" tags set to match? Doing it the current way all sorts of other pieces of Inkscape have to know about bidirectional text. Without the tags being set other code cannot in general determine the tspan direction quickly - put 20 leading and trailing spaces around the core text, and the direction is not determined until something other than a space is encountered. Reduce all such tspans to homogeneous pieces in the TNG compute code and the rest of inkscape only needs to know how to handle the extra direction information for each tspan - which is much simpler to deal with than bidirectional text. Problem with scale/rotate as root

Hi. In a debian testing box amd64, i have a problem running inkscape as root user, when select 2 or more nodes of a path, no handles to scale/rotate/skew show. Is the correct behabiour? By.

Yes let's push through a point release with a couple of back ported fixes. 6 months until release and 3 years after major release is too long guys! While everyone is enjoying their weekends, there are people who really need inks cape. Sciscla do you also do the packaging? Who handles that? One thing that is really important is to get a new version of Inkscape out so that the most popular Inkscape downloaded Windows has working OCAL import working. How close is the release? Guides Improvement and GSoC 2013

Hey guys, I would like to work on improving the guides system in inkscape, including adding a dialog listing current guides, and allowing for easier adding/removing/editing of guides. I have never worked with open source software before, but I have used inkscape from a user point of view for a number of years, and hope that gsoc will be an entry point for contributing to the project. I know that gsoc has not announced their accepted organizations yet, but I wanted to get started as soon as possible (to hopefully increase my chances of acceptance). I have a couple of questions real quick: The project seems to have been started by a user a while back ( https://code.launchpad.net/~john-glassmyer/inkscape/guides-improvement), but he didn't take ownership of the spec, so I assume that this project is still available to work on? Also I understand that inkscape has a "two patches" rule before a user is given commit rights. How big do these patches have to be, and should we try to relate these patches to the project we are looking into proposing or is it better to try to fix a bug that is listed as more important? optional.hpp???

Spent some time today using valgrind to squish some preexisting bugs that were affecting the experimental text-decoration draws. This is not a lot of fun, since under valgrind it takes almost 4 minutes before inkscape will accept input events well, and 20 seconds or so for it to shut down again. Anyway, so far, I found that sp_style_read_itextdecoration in style.cpp was broken several different ways and so rewrote it. That made text decoration turn on reliably. (Not render perfectly, that is another problem.) Will post the fix for style.cpp in bug 172133 later. I am currently stuck on another front. These two issues: ==4258== Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s) ==4258== at 0x810F401: SPClipPath::show(Inkscape::Drawing&, unsigned int) (optional.hpp:273) ==4258== Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s) ==4258== at 0x810F617: SPClipPath::setBBox(unsigned int, Geom::OptRect const&) (optional.hpp:273) are in "optional.hpp" which is apparently a file transiently created during the build and then deleted. Talk about a moving target! Which files are the basis for the creation of optional.hpp? Other than dropping print statements into the basis files, how does one go about debugging a transient file like this? Is there some way to get a listing of "optional.hpp"? AutoExport Script

Hi all. I wrote a small script to help me automatically export portions of an svg file as individual images. I posted about it on the [inkscape forum]( http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=13682), and was recommended (by Jelle fwtw) to post it here. The script can be found at https://github.com/oxalic/AutoExport. Basically it takes an svg file, finds any groups that are named with a form of "prefix:name", and exports those as "name.png" "name.eps" and "name.svg". The script should be fairly well documented and very easy to extend. It is nice because it would be fairly simple to incorporate prefixes in the filenames, and it can export nested things (I use it to export both compound images, and scheme images in chemistry). It is a bit hackish (take a look at how I had to implement the export to plain svg's!), so if y'all have any suggestions or comments I'd love to hear them. Also more about my use case etc, the readme should cover most questions.
