LaTeX vs. other forms of TeX.

There is a presumption that the de facto version of TeX is LaTeX. However the latest work in TeX is centered around non-LaTeX versions such as XeTeX and Luatex. Some of us prefer our TeX without the excess baggage of LaTeX. So I wonder if it would be practical to have the Inkscape output of TeX text in e.g., pdftex format as well as LaTeX format? adopted extensions in point releases

Hi, We have a number of adopted extensions shipped with Inkscape. One of them is JessyInk, which, IIRC, was updated at least twice since we added it -- once in August and yesterday. Crop tool should be straight forward to implement, thoughts?

G'day everyone, I had a thought after some observation and while it wouldn't look good on our already crowded toolbox, it should be fairly easy to implement a crop tool. In practice its just applying parent group to all things then a clippath and finally a resize page to contents command which we already have the code for... Also, it would be easy to have a rule that crops from the selection (if things are selected) by skipping that last resize page and only grouping the already selected stuff.. maybe attached as a mode of the default selector tool from the parent toolbar My thinking is that right now creating clippaths is a weird concept for new-to-vector users, but almost everyone gets the idea of cropping This could be a very achievable GSOC feature if someone is willing to mentor it.. Personally, I can see how much simpler it would be rather than drawing rects and making a weird selection every time i want to crop. to new users, this workflow is not obvious What are the thoughts here? -- Andy

Help needed in fixing line positioning bug.

Hi, I've found a problem with line positioning in text objects after a line is deleted. When I first saw this bug I though I might have introduced it with my recent work on text but it turns out that it predates the work. In any case I've investigated the bug and have narrowed down the problem but I don't know how to fix it. Here is how to reproduce the bug: 1. Create some multiline text. 2. Remove one of the middle lines including the new line character. 3. Save the file then look at it in a web browser or with the XML Editor. The lines will be shifted down one unit of line-height. Here is what I have found: When you delete a new-line: sp_te_delete calls delete_line_break and then te_update_layout_now. The latter calls SPText::rebuildLayout() which loops over the tspans, calling tspan->attributes.setFirstXY(anchor_point). The values of anchor_point are correct and Inkscape displays the tpans correctly but the x and y attributes as shown by the XML Editor are not updated. It is as if the x and y attributes are being updated in a copy of the tspans. What needs to be done to get the tspans in the tree update correctly? Tav

inkscape feature : fullscreen + scripted button

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX apologies for Xposting XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX hello all, i am working on a performative installation in which inkscape is used. the idea is that people can draw on the screen (in inkscape) and a constantly refreshing screengrab is streamed to a server (in pure data) which displays it on a webpage. this page also displays a performer in australia. both 'screens' (australia + touchscreen in amsterdam) are communicating together through drawing/touch. what i am missing in inkscape for all this to run smoothly is: 1) full screen option (not even showing the menu bar 'File', 'Edit', etc., *only* the canvas). 2) a graphical button (i.e. filled green circle) which, when 'pressed', will 'save as' (to record the current vector drawing to a folder with a numerically incrementing filename), 'select all', 'erase', 'return pointer to paintbrush tool option'. the situation is that i have very little time to figure this out and i can imagine that for some people on this list this is rather easy to implement. therefore i hope that someone out there has a bit of time and perhaps an inclination to work on this. there is of course budget for this and proper credits to the programmer/developper and promotion of inkscape project will be included in the project documentation. the project runs on nov. 6th. Adding Nodes in 48

Got 0.48 with 10.10 and now I can't add nodes to paths by double clicking. Although I did finally work out how to work the pressure sensitivity dialog and turn my wacom on. Have the node adding feature been removed? Martin,

New translatable Keys and mouse reference

Hello, A "Keys and mouse reference" translation system is available in the inkscape-docs project as of revision 385 (see https://code.launchpad.net/inkscape-docs). The new keys.xml has been almost entirely docbookified in order to make its conversion to PO easier, and the resulting HTML file is slightly different than the current one (new external CSS, some style changes, and strict XHTML 1.0). I didn't wanted to change its aspect too drastically, and thus only fine-tuned some styles in order to (hopefully!) improve the overall readability on most browsers (tested with Opera 10.63, IE8 and Firefox 3.6.10 on Windows XP, and Firefox 3.6.10 on Ubuntu 10.04). Don't hesitate to comment. To add a new translation, copy keys.pot (from http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/inkscape-docs/trunk/files/head%3A…) to LANG.po, translate (only 939 strings...), and attach the PO file to a bug report, send it to the translators' list, or commit it if you have the appropriate rights. Then update the UI translation file to redirect the link to the new HTML file on the website. BTW, we currently use keysVERSION.html (keys048.html) and thus it would be straightforward to use keysVERSION.LANG.html (keys049.sk.html...). But we could also choose keys-VERSION-LANG.html (keys-049-ja.po). Any preference? or another idea? Regards. -- Nicolas

pdflatex use case

Hi All, I am very grateful to Johan for the excellent work he did putting a Latex export into 0.48. In my use of Inkscape/Latex, I maintain a sub-directory with the figures in... indeed, sometimes I maintain a sub-directory for each chapter, each with a figures directory. This use doesn't play well with the export as it stands currently. The Latex export assumes that the figure is in the same directory as the calling latex document. I would like to ask if the directory that the exports reside in could be specified from Inkscape. I would like, for example, to make mine './ chapter1/figures'. The output .tex from latex would then append this to the image path called by 'includegraphics'. A text field on the export dialogue is one possibility (but I appreciate that dialogue is already busy). Please let me know any if you require any further detail or work on this proposal, Richard
