Regressions(?) in rendering tests

For some reason the rendering test bugs/bug181995.svg now gives a blur that is wider than it is tall (which is not the intended effect). The normal blur test still passes though, so it might have something to do with transforms. I filed a bug at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/395197 In addition livepatheffect/ruler.svg suddenly renders differently (in a relatively subtle way), someone who knows what the intended effect is should have a look to see what's best (I haven't filed a bug). Xara 5 Object Gallery

I am a very long time Xara user (from the time of the first Corel Xara) and some year ago, before being involved in designing filters for Inkscape I designed a lot of brushes for Xara. Gary Priester who wrote the following tutorial is a good friend and a very kind guy : http://outsider.xara.com/tutorials/june09/ In fact I would attract your attention to what seems to be for me the most interesting novelty in Xara Xtreme 5, the Object Gallery. It's one more step to a smart control of the document structure like they already exist in 3D apps. For example the nicest I know is the one of Cinema 4D. ivan

JavaFX support for Inkscape?

Hi Inkscape developers. I'd like to see if there is anyone interested in working on a JavaFX plugin for Inkscape. Please let me introduce myself. I'm Josh Marinacci from the JavaFX engineering team at Sun. JavaFX is our new platform for graphic intensive applications that runs on Mac, Windows, and Linux (as well as phones and TVs in the future). Recently there have been threads on a few mailing lists asking for JavaFX support in Inkscape so I thought I'd see if there was anyone in the developer community interested in creating such a plugin. Let me explain what this means. Today we have something called the JavaFX Production Suite, which is a set of plugins for Photoshop and Illustrator. They let you export graphics from those tools and then integrate them in an app you are building, adding animation and event handlers directly to the graphics. I put together a screencast to show you how it works in Photoshop: http://blip.tv/file/2288262 We simply don't have the developer resources to create plugins for tools other than Photoshop and Illustrator, but we also don't want to leave open source and Linux designers out of the loop. We'd love to help some in the Inkscape community build such a plugin. We can provide technical support and specs, and answer questions. I think it would be pretty easy for an experienced Inkscape developer to build such an export plugin. The underlying .FXZ format is basically a zip file containing images and some text metadata similar to XML. It should be pretty easy to generate. It's my understanding that there was a previous effort to create an Inkscape plugin (Silviera Neto was working on it, I think). Is this plugin still under development? I just realized we should probably mention that Ted and I are being interviewed today on FLOSS Weekly in regards to Inkscape. http://twit.tv/floss It will be streamed live today at 1:30pm on http://live.twit.tv/ but then will go out on the FLOSS Weekly podcast. That usually goes up around the weekend. Hopefully we can bring a bit of attention for Inkscape, the new release, and just possibly interest a few more users to come in and help with final 0.47 testing and bug fixing.

These are my humble suggestions: 1) when moving the guide (no modifiers) you always also move (and snap) the origin, that goes under the cursor, in 2D (so wherever you click you always grab the guide at its origin: why moving the guide keeping the origin at the original distance from the grab/snapping point?); this behaviour would be consistent (=intuitive) to what happens when you create a guide; 2) if shift is pressed when clicking, the guides always rotate (snapping to what's around or, if you press ctrl after the rotation is started, to absolute angles, i.e. always starting from 0, using the step specified in the preferences for when rotating objects); 3) if ctrl-shift is pressed when clicking, the origin moves constrained to the guide (snapping to what's around projected perpendicularly to the guide; if you want something different you can create a new guide and snap to the intersection, while creating a guide perpendicular to a given one is not always straightforward; this is a general consideration regarding snapping while constrained). 4a) the circle should appear when hovering on the guide (so whenever it becomes selected); or 4b) the circle should appear when you start moving the guide in 2D (so under the cursor), or when a modifier is pressed (but you must select the guide also, to avoid having all the origins of all guides in the drawing appear whenever you press a modifier, maybe for doing something else with another tool); Points 2) and 3) could be implemented as they are now (i.e. you get the two clicking on the guide at different distances from the origin) provided that the cursor and status bar indications change correctly to show the difference (now they don't). This would eliminate the ctrl-shift modifier. Well, it would be incredibly helpful if the win32 builds were more regular as well as if we had someone committed to making the win32 installers for the pre-releases. We really need to push the prereleases on the downloads page too. Hello Inkscape Devs! My name is MarkT. The recent years I have focused on serving techniques of svg. I'm not sure if you get bored hearing how wonderful you all are. I will risk saying it again. Amazing is the Inkscape. It is. I am now building web pages using Inkscape. This is good to. There is one request I would like to put in the todo-q. Would it be difficult to render an outline of the extents of a foreign object tag? All the best! MarkT
