Hello everyone, Looking for something else I just passed cross this on Apple's site: Inkscape is marked as staff pick by Apple currently. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/unix_open_source/index_sp.html I don't remember that it was before so that's great news, given that the interface is X11 (which Mac users typically don't like), and not very pretty by default (which mac users usually care much about). However it seems to be a little lower in the most downloaded counts: it was in top 10 and is now 17. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/unix_open_source/index_top.html But no doubt that the 0.46 release will bring all that up. Congratulations anyway. I've some GTK themes which look OK when integrated with OS X. Now if someone could tell me how to use GTK2_RC_FILES I'll be glad to try and use them in Inkscape. "make check" tests

Guys, We need people to start running "make check" again, and trying to keep things up to date. If invoked from the src directory, it can check the main code without running through some of the other things such as translations. Anyway, I just fixed style-test.h so that the tests should compile again. Running it does show a lot of problems with attributes, though.

compile error in ocaldialog.h

Hi, I recently tried to compile from svn sources and encountered the following error: In file included from file.cpp:50: ui/dialog/ocaldialogs.h:247: error: expected class-name before '{' token ui/dialog/ocaldialogs.h: In constructor `Inkscape::UI::Dialog::FileListViewText::FileListViewText(guint, Inkscape::UI::Dialog::SVGPreview&, Gtk::Label&, Gtk::Button&)': ui/dialog/ocaldialogs.h:250: error: class `Inkscape::UI::Dialog::FileListViewText' does not have any field named `ListViewText' make[2]: *** [file.o] Error 1 This occurred in a fresh checkout of revision 15977, and also an updated revision 15990. I have successfully built from svn sources many times before, but the last time I did pre-dated the existence of the ocaldialogs.h file. autogen.sh and configure both run fine and don't detect any problems. Hi Johan, Not only does it crash when starting from within gdb, but also when I start Inkscape directly, without trying to debug it. I guess I was not clear on that. If it were only a gdb issue then I probably wouldn't have bothered ;-). It would be great to know whether it's reproducible, or maybe you are able to get a backtrace. You're programming on Windows, right? I'll try the file on my linux-machine at home and see where it leads to. The file will be sent in a separate mail to you personally, I'd rather not have it published on the mailing list as it's somewhat confidential. Crash on Win XP, cannot get backtrace

Hi, On opening one of my own recent Inkscape SVG files on my Windows XP machine at work, Inkscape apparently gets stuck in a loop (100% CPU usage). When I subsequently click on its main window, it crashes. It looks like it is stuck while redrawing the screen, as I can see part of my desktop and part of my SVG file. When starting through gdb however it also gets stuck, but it won't crash. How do I get some useful information from gdb to help debugging? Currently, I only have "unknown software exception 0xc00000fd" at "0x672ddbd9". I'm running Inkscape0709022056, as provided by ishmal. Diederik

menus

Hi, With lots of additions overal last year menus become quite busy. A couple of observations. 1. We have both "Effects - Images" and "Effects - Raster" menus. Do we keep "Images" submenu for any possible effect not altering contents of raster images or just embedding/disembedding? If it's emdedding related only, should we probably then rename submenu? btw, I'm not really sure that the current way of dealing with embedding/exporting raster files in SVG document really optimal. See, opening an arbitrary file I can't tell if an image used there is embedded or not without looking into source code.There's no indicator to tell that. An improved hint in status bar could probably be the first step in the right, IMO, direction. Something like "Embedded image A x B size in layer N" and "External image A x B size in layer N". What do you think? 2. Text case altering commands live in "Effects - Text". Should it probably belong to "Text" menu? As user of applications like Scribus or OpenOffice.org (sorry, Scribus guys :)) I don't perceive those as effects --- this is rather altering of text that its look'n'feel. Same goes for "Replace text..." --- to me it rather belongs to "Edit" or "Text" menu, not speaking about some kind of clash with "Edit - Find...". Comments? :) Alexandre

Connecting to signals

I've had some struggle in signals and stuff. I found this in the code: _close_button.signal_clicked() .connect(sigc::mem_fun(*this, &LayerPropertiesDialog::_close)); (dialogs/layer-properties.cpp) Why is this connection not saved? Is that not necessary? It seems to me that this is buggy. When the layer window is deleted, the connection is not disconnected and when the signal is emitted it will call _close with a corrupt "this" value. (this will never happen probably because the button is on the dialog itself, but still) Thanks for some light on this, Johan P.S. Why is there a function signal_clicked() to get the signal? In my code I just make the sigc::signal public (see /ui/widget/random.h). Is that bad?
