I think it is worth the extra effort, and I'm willing to put it in, because right now the GTK dialog is just aweful. Hi, If there's to be a dedicated engraving tool, the following links are very interesting. They involve methods of automatic engraving in the field of non-photorealistic rendering. One method uses Bezier patches to determine line direction. Hey... I'm glad a couple of people agree with me, so I'm not going crazy. I think trying to embed GTK in Windows native in GTK seems like a very hard, risky, and potentially ugly way of solving the problem. I'm much more in favour of implementing an shell thumbnail extension to achieve our goal, mainly because it would be a more Windowsy solution, and would result in less hassle. This would solve the SVG preview problem for XP and Vista users, in Inkscape, and allow them to thumbnail across the whole system, which could be a significant selling point! That's a good tip. I agreee with you also that we need to do better with the parenting. The problem extends well beyond the file dialogs. I don't think this is good, I'd like to see SP_ACTIVE_DESKTOP all but removed from the codebase. When the verb is called it is passed the information on the window that called it. That's currently not passed into sp_file_open_dialog, but should be. (infact, very few verbs use it, but they should). The desktop can be gotten in any verb "perform" function with the following code: SPDesktop *dt = dynamic_cast(sp_action_get_view(action)); That is, if it is called on a SPDesktop and not another subclass of an action. But I would imagine that FileOpen always is. --Ted

Is there any reason why sp-ellipse.cpp uses .552 as the ellipse-to-bezier constant rather than something with a few more digits: 0.55228474983079356 I know it probably makes little visual difference, but why not use the exact number if you have it? I certainly wouldn't use 3.14 for PI. So why use .552 when you mean 4*(sqrt(2)-1)/3? --bb
